jepgcoin (what you incorrectly call bitcoin) is going to have illegal abuse material on the blockchain, because dishonest hires on Bitcoin Core made a controversial fork to bitcoin around a year ago called "Bitcoin Core V30".
This fork, known as "Bitcoin Core v30", allows users to permanently add images on the blockchain of any kind, unstoppably, including illegal data that Bitcoin Core just fully enabled the sending and storage of.
Luke is making a correction to Bitcoin, first referred to as "Bitcoin Knots", then another fix called "BIP 110", and then a final fix that changes the mining algorithm.
This is being done to make it so that people won't be able to put illegal jpeg images on the blockchain. It will also make it cheaper for people to use Bitcoin for its intended purpose (as a form of money you send and recieve from others when you buy and sell something).

The only problem with BIP110 was that it was called too early when the relay numbers weren't great enough.
Hopefully, the failure of the first soft fork will only slap plebs awake to run their own nodes even more so than they already are.

"Markets" don't decide the rules that Bitcoin follows, though. Miners can sell coins on a chain that node runners reject, but if they stay on that chain, that transaction history will be on a rejected fork. Nodes also enforce rules regardless of whatever economic activity Bitcoin happens to have on top of it.

Bitcoin as a technology operates on the idea that everyone keeps a copy of a ledger of transactions, where everyone checks, based on AGREED UPON RULES, whether transactions were added fairly, ROUGHLY FOLLOWING energy and worked expended. If a network of miners spent more work and energy fabricating transactions, it would break the rules, and nodes would just reject their dishonest blocks.
Don't ever forget Bitcoin is a network of people keeping ledgers. The ledger-keepers call the shots, NOT the people writing down new pages.

1. ASIC resistance means you have less hash security. OCEAN mining pools are a better system for mining decentralization
2. Layer 2 solutions solve on chain transaction fees and time
3. Nobody checks "tainted dollars" by looking at the serial number and checking whether it was used previously for an illicit transaction. Also Lightning Network sidesteps that issue as well
4. Nobody will know whose coins are who, pseudonymous
5. The 2140 fee transition is fantastic, miners will have more than enough time to adjust
Monero's "muh on chain privacy" meme is just that, a meme. I dare you to try and look up my bitcoin history on the blockchain right now, and prove that it belongs to me.

This is the wrong philosophy.
Bitcoiners who signalled Knots and BIP110 only erred in that they called the shot too early.
Bitcoin, in its primary PURPOSE and function, is to be a decentralized digital currency that no bank or government controls, that no one can inflate or freeze, that ANYONE can verify, that anyone can also use.
Anything that compromises any of the four compromises Bitcoin the technology as it was intended to work.
Putting hard caps on Non-Monetary data was absolutely the right call to make, but the call was made too early when the node support was too low.

Let's say it did take an infinite amount of time for Monero's supply to become infinite (but how would you audit Monero's supply?), you would still have many generations where one notices a significant decrease in Monero's purchasing power compared to only a few generations ago, in contrast to Bitcoin where its purchasing power preserved or only increases.
I heard XMRs current inflation rate is comparable to that of Gold. It would still double every ~35 years, within a lifetime, while Bitcoin would preserve its purchasing power better than that.
And how would you know that tail emissions would be enough to still incentivize miners in the future, rather than resorting to transaction fees anyways? If the latter did happen, then why not just do transaction fees with a hard supply?

Even if it took 10,000 years for the supply to become infinite, the fact that Monero is able to theoretically grow into an non-finite supply itself is the problem.

The only thing that is saving you is if a centralized hard fork occurs in the future where the tail emissions do drop to zero and you somehow have the ability to fully audit the total supply without compromising on-chain privacy.
