not exactly. The herbs mentioned do have many of the listed functions, but the percentages of effect and end results are highly variable and depend on causative factors. Plus, I rarely use herbs the way this paper describes them. It's important to start with a functional diagnosis first, then design a treatment strategy aimed at the root cause.

Waking up at night to urinate could be from unregulated sugars. Try strictly lowering carbohydrates after 2pm for one week (eat meat and veggies only). If this helps then it shows that a blood sugar issue is at least part of the problem.

well...some people can. Eating unlimited fats on a low carb diet usually leads to eating less without even thinking about it. People might eat more the first week or two, but then they end up less hungry and then eventually eat less. Ultimately, eating less is the real goal.

Carbs spike insulin and must be lowered for weight loss. Fat doesn't spike insulin, but is very high in calories which causes weight gain. Strategy: 1. lower carb intake and allow increased fat short term to correct cravings 2. once cravings diminish, decrease fat intake (to burn your own fat) 3. goal is to eat less without struggling

These are uniquely nutritious foods, however not anything I ever feel like eating 🤢, and the sourcing might be questionable. Some of our patients are getting creative and have their butchers grind small amounts of organ meats (e.g. liver and heart) into their hamburger meat without their family noticing.

yeah, it's safe regarding blood sugar stability, but it's hard on the gut. You probably won't notice any issues with gum, but the low carb snacks with sugar alcohols cause gas, bloat, and eventually gut issues. You're lucky if they don't bother you. For me, gum is fine but the snacks irritate.

I have the same carb addiction hierarchy, and appreciate the breakdown, except for sweets (cookies were the worst for me). I gave up sweets 100% 18 years ago and have never gone back. For me, the addiction to sweets was so intense that I would binge. I felt out of control and demoralized, especially considering I owned a gym (at the time) and had degrees in nutrition.

100% I'm a carb addict for sure. I can sometimes have a taco or two, but have to consciously assess whether or not the carb demon came back. If yes, then I get strict for a longer period of time (a few weeks). If no, then I'm grateful, but still get back on track (but can have another carb meal in a week or so).
