They HATE tech execs. Like, HAAAAATE.

The #LAPD report on how they were totally correct during the Bovino ICE raids is causing an immediate crashout among activists who documented everything and were hoping there would be accountability. The report itself is a masterful piece of fash propaganda/fiction.

A media literacy moment.
I saw the original video. In it, the woman filming is telling her friend not to say anything, not to give the #ICE officers anything, and also telling the ICE officer who looks like Tom Steyer to back off and stop threatening to arrest her since she's not doing anything wrong. The ICE officers take her friend through a different door leading back to the tarmac and everyone panics because it's clear once she's through that door anything could happen to her. There's yelling and people at the gate are yelling at the fed agents.
This is where the news hides a key moment: a Southwest employee steps in and threatens the woman filming. He says if she doesn't stop yelling at the feds he won't let her on her flight.

July 5, I started seeing videos on Black accounts spreading the word about a missing Black teenager who didn't come home after spending the 4th with his friends at Horn Island, MS.
All his white friends.
His family was frantic trying to find out why he never made it back when everyone else did.
Park rangers found his body on July 6.
All the 'friends' have deleted their socials and the families have lawyered up.
As is the case so often, this is a conversation a LOT of Black families have with our kids. Or we used to. We are told early to be vigilant when out with our white friends. Because any trouble happens, it does not end well with us.
I remember being in grad school in the Midwest and being with my mostly White friend group and being really clear: at the first sign of weirdness we are OUT because rural white shenanigans does not end well for me. The Indian guy in our group understood. The white guy, Jeremy, also cosigned. He knew. He was from Arkansas.

This book has been sitting on my office bookshelf for over a year. I hadn't really cracked it open until yesterday when a colleague told me she heard her speak at a reading here in the city recently.
'She's literally brilliant, Delia. It's been a while since someone made my brain explode.'
So on that strong recommendation I brought it home.

It's hitting me how the slow arc of justice my elders fought and died to set in motion has been halted by the Calais decision.
This morning, I was on a call with another (highly accomplished) middle-aged Black women and this is how we processed it together:
We are realizing that we (including our younger elder millennial sisters) are likely to be the LAST generation of Black women who will achieve so much.
This decision is not just a gutting of the VRA but the highest court's massive rejection of the idea that this country is, indeed, a land of opportunity for everyone.
The court is now an overt and explicitly complicit engine of white nationalism.
THAT is how much anti-Blackness has been simmering underneath this facade of 'American democracy.'
So now, Black folks, we need to decide. Retreat, close ranks to protect our own, and/or fight for a renewed Reconstruction on top of the smoldering ruins of this gotdamn system?

A friend's workplace received notice their staff is forming a #union and she wanted to talk about how to handle. (She's on the leadership team.)
After listening to her describe all the jankery going on (capacity issues, infrastructure gaps, morale, culture, norms issues, etc) I saw everything clearly.
Her staff is using unionization as a proxy for change management. Sadly, forming a union isn't going to expand their donor base, expand their capacity, change the terms of their federal grants, or turn folks into better managers.
But it will bring clarity and structure of sorts.
And that's what I told her.
Her staff is asking for clarity and the leadership team hasn't provided it. So now they're going to be a unionized shop -- this is an opportunity to make the implicit explicit. The leadership team has to be prepared for that but they aren't.
Neither is the staff. They want shared decision-making and they're about to get hit with a quagmire of nonprofit decisions. Hope they're ready.

There are some large legacy nonprofits that are not going to come off looking that great when this is all over.

No one: How's that fitness journey going?
Me: Hate to admit it but it's doing ok. Guess being perpetually fat and struggling with it my whole life has actually taught me some things.
Like, whaddya know - tracking meals obsessively actually makes me hyper conscious of what I eat. (It also helps that I like routines. I just eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch now. Dinner is the wild card.)
Eating 1 fermented thing/day helps my gut.
Oh, and rejiggering my gut with a strong prebiotic and more fiber (Metamucil is my bestie) makes me less bloated. My belly has actually become less round. WTF.
I'm now less a teapot and more a bag of rice.
Oh yeah -- and going cold turkey on processed foods and Door Dash is like an instant calorie shed. I haven't had Doritos in 30 days.
Conclusion: I lost another 2 lbs this week. (My digital scale has also begun weighing me in kg for some reason.)
I kind of hate my doctor was right.
Effing lifestyle interventions.

There's an account on here I follow because she's smart, forthright, and has insight into things that are outside my own sphere.
I also follow her because there's a core of bravery in her posts. I like brave people. I like to think of myself as brave but we all know bravery exists only when it's tested. I wobbled once and I didn't like how that made me feel so bravery it is, I guess.
I bring up AnarchoNina because she said what we needed to do if we wanted to appropriately meet this moment. But folks freaked out. 'We can't fight the government! Yikes, revolution! Scary! Dangerous!'

He's not changing direction.
We need to be able to tell the difference between PR strategy and reality.
As long as Miller, Vance, Noem, Vought are in this administration (and all of their little friends, too), and weirdo unfucked fash billionaires are still pouring money into their pockets to turn this world into a dystopic hellscape, they aren't changing direction.
They do not fucking care how many nice white people they shoot in the back or face. (I actually would not be surprised if the next nice white person they murder is a faith leader. Because it makes them look *hard* to their Nazi and Christo Fash base.)
