I second this, Delta Chat is end-to-end encrypted, has good multi-device and multi-profile support, and onboarding in the app is way more easier than in Threema, it is totally free so no payment process required, and it also doesn't depends on any phone, no data private data required for registration, it is super simple just set a name and start chatting, you get in contact sharing your invite link or QR code with your friends

buddy, if you (and by you I mean goverment/countries) don't have control over the server there is zero independence, yes it is an expectrum but you are in the near zero zone, that it could be even worse by using Facebook messenger and you feel content by that is sad and just hints at how bad is your "independence" at this point

yeah it is not solely about decentralization but being able to have your own server to be independent is one of the "things" you need nonetheless,
same as not eating meat is just "one of the things" of veganism, and you can NOT skip that one and just say "it doesn't drink milk or honey, good enough" ;)

but it looks to me you are actually looking for reasons not to use #DeltaChat because you already don't want to, so let me help you:
* not good for sending anything bigger than 25-50mb
* no post-quantum encryption yet (but coming)
* no forward secrecy (but coming)
* no sealed sender (possible to implement)
* not usable for public or big groups (no group admin or moderation at the moment)
* once you give your contact to someone you can get added by them to groups

and btw simplex also has a simplex.chat URL similar to delta chat, and just as Delta Chat do, they also have a custom scheme, you are making a "centralized server" problem out of thin air, you don't depend on any centralized server for sharing your QR I already explained this, ex. here you have my invite link without any server:

I already replied this: good multi-device, in-chat apps, more user-friendly, the server requirements are minimal and it is easier to setup (less manual steps), how many people do you know self-hosting simplex anyways???

yeah I actually was using #LibreWolf but due to the same problems tried to get back to official Firefox to see if it was only a problem in the fork (there I was using containers and tabs groups which made the problem even worse apparently)
also I have some pinned tabs, maybe that is the culprit, do you have pinned tabs?

I am wondering if it is only #Debian or #KDE or that things have deteriorated so much in #Mozilla #Firefox to the point that I can barely use it:
from time to time can't move tabs, clicks in the top bar stop working completely until I restart it
sometimes the text cursor disappear or appears in wrong position different from where the text is actually inserted in textarea/input
this makes it really stressful and unpractical to use, even if it has been the browser I use my whole life

for the record, one of the Delta Chat developers is aware of #HomeAssistant and toyed around creating an integration to use DC via web with it:

I don't know #HomeAssistant but if it is some service you run in some server, you can create a #DeltaChat bot that runs in that server and sends you #e2ee email notifications
Alternatively, you can configure Delta Chat with a classic email account and receive normal/unencrypted #email so you could just sent you an email notification from #HomeAssistant if it already support it

is there any VPS provider more chad than #Contabo ??? https://arcanechat.me VPS is down, the VPS will simply fail to start from the Control Panel, this WAY TOO OFTEN happens during weekends or holidays, their status page says nothing about any problems or maintenance, and if you try to write to support they will tell you "sorry it is weekend, your message will not even be stored" so I guess arcanechat.me will be down the whole weekend >:-/

you can use your own email account or server as long as the provider allows you to use 3rd party email clients (ex. #outlook doesn't work, #protonmail and #tutanota doesn't allow it, etc)
About #ArcaneChat, yes you can import your profile from #DeltaChat
to ArcaneChat and the other way around, they are fully compatible

about the "many apps" that do crypto (I guess you are talking only about CryptoText and CryptoWisper?) apps are from 3rd parties, and yes, that two apps are a bit useless to use inside #DeltaChat, you could share the output to other insecure non-ecrypted apps tho, but I also would not trust the security of such apps it is just some amateur trying to create little apps
in any case mini-apps don't need to implement crypto as they benefit from encryption in DC automatically

IMHO that "XMPP is perfect" attitude is part of why XMPP is so bad after so many years, some nerds think everything is perfect because they understand it and the "dummy" people that don't find it easy to use are the problem, if you use Conversations and its forks it is full of technical stuff and bad UI/UX decisions
you first need to accept your defects to be able to improve...

I am really happy that it worked for you fine all this years, I am not "whining" about it, I even gave it a quick try and without doing anything special somehow ended with a group of 2 people without encryption working properly, not even intentionally, maybe I am the unluckiest person in the world and for everyone else it works fine

I don't think people should be using #Signal, besides this problem, it is a centralized service which means it is vulnerable to enshitification and it requires phone numbers to register which sucks a hell lot
I use #DeltaChat, decentralized, anonymous, no data required for registration, and it doesn't have this deanonymization attack problem

you could be recommending #DeltaChat that is an e2ee email client with an UI that looks like WhatsApp, you could even provide it to your users as a chatting decentralized solution using your email server, which fits with your business, but instead you prefer to recommend centralized phone-number based apps like #Signal 😭
