Yes, I get it, and I can see your points. I can also see why what can be called oversimplification is necessary to get the message across to a wider audience. And, let's be honest, the topic of finance is quite simple: there are assets and instant settlement on the one hand, and there is credit, expectations, and trust on the other. If you and I make a bet today to be settled in the future, we can both still handle it. If one of us is then going to sell his expected earnings from the bet to another man who packages it into a product with a cool name and a good rating,g and if then, many years later, your own pension fund bundles that product into your package .... only then it becomes complicated, opaque, nobody's fault, nobody's responsibility. So in my humble view, the financial mess out there totally justifies simplification in selected spots. But I get your point :-) ... and The Gold Standard may not be a good birthday present for you :-)

Buying, selling, and owning Bitcoin, while ethically and morally clean, may become illegal at some point and for some time. Was thinking about "logic" in biology while reading Nick Lane's book "Power, Sex, Suicide" (ignore the catchy title; it's a great book). Not every logic applied by someone who studies nature is automatically bio-logic. In summary and retrospect, I would say that most of the logic I have used in my years in biology was math, physics, or engineering logic. Very little was truly bio-logic. Nick Lane, by contrast, argues very logically that bacterial design prevented them from growing and evolving the complexity of the higher organisms that surround us today. What I am trying to say is this: determine and address the root question (challenge) in what you do as early and as rigorously as possible.

I have been driving a Tesla Model 3 for 5 years (bought it right after Tesla announced it had added Bitcoin to its balance sheet). A great car, very reliable. But I wonder why Tesla would constantly nag you about driving a little bit too fast, breaking a little too late (like having grandma on the passenger seat), or watching something else for 5 seconds when you are alone on the road, _and_ refusing to re-activate the USD 7k full-self-driving package after ignoring their nanny advice for a few times (happened to a friend). All this while Elon is spearheading sovereignty and free speech. Drove a Taycan the other day just to see that all the nanny functions can easily be switched off using the standard user interface.

In the late 80ies and early 90ties I spent all my time on molecular and cellular biology which earned me a PhD in the natural sciences. This is not a bragging exercise but the preamble to a book recommendation. Granted I studied three decades ago, it is nevertheless amazing how much more clarity and insights I get from Nick Lane‘s books. Had he been my professor then I might never have gone down the software engineering path, might have missed Bitcoin altogether 😬. Keep in mind that I have never used BTCPay Server, which is widely used to enable businesses to accept Bitcoin. It is worth looking into. I am currently using LNbits with a CLN funding source. A straightforward setup is to use the TPoS extension in LNbits. It is a point-of-sale interface that accepts manual price entries in FIAT and generates a Lightning invoice QR code. For a more elaborate setup, you can add on-chain payments with the "Onchain Wallet" extension; it uses your xpub to generate payment addresses/QR codes. I have recently integrated on-chain or lightning payment with the WooCommerce plugin for WordPress. With an LNbits account and the "Onchain Wallet" extension, you can incorporate Bitcoin payment in WooCommerce using its LNbits extension. Re-reading my note, it feels like it was easier to get it running than to explain how I did it 😅

In his book "Scale", Geoffrey West, takes a close look at Biology using the physics toolbox and finds fascinating patterns. Did you know that the hearts of all mammals beat approximately 1.5 billion times? The heart beat rate gets slower as the weight of the animal grows, with heavier animals therefore living correspondingly longer. According to the data compiled in the book, this rule also applied to us, homo sapiens, up to about 1800. Thanks to the technological and societal improvements, our hearts now beat 2.5 billion times on average.
A second finding was that all mammals consume approximately 300 food calories per gram of body mass throughout their entire lifespan. This was also true for us humans before we started agriculture, and our energy flux corresponded to about 100 watts. Since then, it has grown to about 11'000 watts, almost as much as that of a whale.
Suppose unconstrained Darwinian evolution were the only mechanism at play then we would not expect to see "constants" like the one's above. We would see a continuum of values. It was this discrepancy that led West to the research and the findings published in the book that I am not going to leak here, of course.

This week @npub1864…t2tq was serving me well again when I bought a pair of fabulous shoes at Atheist Shoes in Berlin (https://btcmap.org/map#17/52.52509/13.40130). When I told the owner that I thought it was very cool that he was accepting Bitcoin, he said that he no longer does because there were very few customers buying with Bitcoin, and that his service provider had terminated the service. There is a level of factual average world leader intelligence (last word meant as 100 dimensional vector). It's pointless to think ahead and pretty futile to think short of it. Why not accept it and use your extra skills for private endeavours (and Bitcoin :)).
