Did you use AI to write this? I've read the first few paragraphs and they sounded smart but took forever to get to the actual point.
I've let my Air summarize it and agree with a lot of points. General Purpose Hardware has been unjustly ignored by the influencer class. But I still think classical hwws can be a valuable addition to a multisig setup or just as a tool to check if your diy setup actually calculates what you think it does (I'm actually thinking about vibecoding a tool for that if I find the time).
Lastly since you only mentioned seed signer I thought it might be appropriate to also give a shutout to krux and specter diy/shield. Both projects allow you to build your own signingdevice form general purpose hardware, but offer more functionality than the seed singer.

At https://coinkite.com/careers you can see what positions where filled in the past. Surprise: Of the12 filled positions none actually had anything to do with the coldcards firmware. Most of them where marketing/sales followed by administration and development of their webpage.
I told my clanker to go through the commits on Github and it seems like there where only two people working on the firmware with 80% of the work being done by Peter Gray (one of the founders).
It seems like development and maintenance of critical software wasn't exactly a priority in the payroll budget. Which even more shocking if you consider how many fancy features the cc was stuffed with. The time spent on reviewing the code must have been almost non existent. @nprofile…fm4n

My earlier comment was not about how to use a cold card in a safe way, but on how the industry needs to evolve so that normies can figure out how to securely set up their storage. I agree with everything being said in this letter, but I am not willing to sign yet. Priority in near term for NVK, Coinkite and the entire BTC space should be to minimize the damage. Everyone who owns a coldcard needs to be informed, that the device didn't do what he expected it to do. The next few days are a race between hodlers and hackers. Every vulnerable seed will be drained. Every second NVK has should be spent on finding new ways to inform his costumers of their situation.
Yes, there need to be Consequences for his negligence and questionable business practices. But that should not come at the cost of hodlers. There will be enough time to have this discussion after the dust settles.

Rolling dice is easier than filing your taxes. The problem is not the difficulty of secure seed generation itslef. It is the lack of knowledge paired with no obvious path to obtain that knowledge.
Most people who decided to use dice were either lucky, because they found good advice when they first set up their wallet (it's luck because they had no ability to actually verify the quality of the advice they were given at that point). Or they got educated enough by passively consuming content. If you listen to your 40 hours per week of podcasts you might stumble upon enough self custody discussion to make an informed choice. But I assume the number of people who actually took the time to do a proper deep dive before choosing their first setup is almost zero.
My hope for the future is that we will get options to purchase insurance against unsecure key generation. The insurance providers will have a financial incentive to quantify the security of each method of key generation to accurately price their contracts. Based upon their research they can design guides that their customers have to follow during setup. These of course would be as easy to follow as possible because the providers are interested in making their product usable for as many people as possible. And again, rolling dice or other methods of real world entropy generation is not that difficult.
Once these well documented, easy to follow best practices exist everybody can use and benefit from them, even if they are not buying insurance.

I love this episode, but you are missing something about the tower of babel that would actually strengthen your point:
It is likely they were building a ziggurat style tower. This was the type of temple building that was typical in that region at that time. I can give more justification why it was a ziggurat if you want, but let me make my point first. Why is building a temple a bad thing? Because the reasoning behind these temples was that the gods had physical needs and that humans could help them meet their needs in exchange for favors. There are even some creation myths from that time which tell a story of humans being created as a sort of slave race so that the gods don't have to work anymore. So the thinking was "we built this awesome house for our god and then we give him a lot of food. This makes him dependent on us and he will give us good weather or success in war or whatever". But the god of the bible obviously doesn't want this kind of relationship with humans. He wants a relationship based on voluntary and sincere love, he gives freely without anything that we can give him in return except our heart.
Fiat money being a debt based money has a few parallels to that story.
1. It bases our relationship with each other on financial slavery rather than genuine trust. The fiat system literally requires the amount of debt to grow forever. Less debt = shrinking money supply = deflation = default on remaining debt = economic collapse. Bitcoin on the other hand puts capital accumulation (aka saving) before spending, which gives you the freedom to coose how to spend your life in a way that generates real value for others.
2. Just like the tower builders thinking they can influence the weather, Fiat Money gives the illusion of control where there is none. "If the central bankers just set the interest rate at the right level we can generate more economic growth or higher employment." Bitcoiners recognise, that all meaningful economic activity comes from humans providing value for others and they only need a stable foundation from which they can make their decisions.
3. Fiat money concentrates power. In ancient societies the priest were one of the highest classes, because they where believed to influence what the gods would do. And they often enriched themselves on the riches that people offered to the gods. In our times the closer you are to the money printer, the more you are allowed to enrich yourself at the cost of others.
If god let the tower of babel fall for these reasons, then he might let fiat fall for similar reasons. And just like Israel was chosen as a people of god to be light for the scattered nations. Bitcoin can be a light for those living under the many scattered fiat currencies. You can join the people of god trough giving your heart to Jesus Christ and you can join the Network of Bitcoin by redirecting your energy towards bitcoin.

You're on the right track. Concrete is great at resisting compressive forces, steel is great at resisting tensile forces, combine them and you get the best of both worlds. Now in the video the test that he showed for concrete is used to determine compressive strength, so modern concrete should be good at this too. We don't calculate the strength in kg but in Newton per square millimeter. This way we can compare samples of different sizes. I'm guessing the ancient concrete cube has a length of 100 or150 mm? At 80 tonnes this would mean a compressive strength of around 60 or 27 N/mm2. Which is around the same as some concrete used today. We can actually produce concrete with more than 100 N/mm2 but this is rarely done because it's quite expensive. With modern concrete we can reliably calculate the resulting strength of the mix, so we usually just select a mix with a little bit more strength than is actually required by the structural engineer. We could use stronger concrete but that would just be a waste of money. My guess is, that they deliberately chose a weak concrete for the video or added too much water to the mix.
