Today I went with my neighbor N and her mom to go autocrossing at lime rock. N was absolutely a natural. with a little instructor she got much better. he final times score was 51 seconds on the full loops. a time of abtu 45s or less gets you into the top 20 for the shoot out at the end of the season. those people also had boosted cars. Her mom had a blast and ran he green and checkered flag for the timed laps.
N really liked it and we might hit up some weekend autocrosses this summer.

We're going to lime rock. Next weekend. the folks at nutmeg miata club rent the autocross course for the whole day. There will be new driver instruction. Then they open up the full course and do timed runs. Then it's free driving which lasts hours.
I'm hoping to radicalize her so her dream car will stop being a X5.

I took my neighbor for a second day of manual driving because she has to get better at getting into second fast. She got a lot better. she can launch hard every time which will be useful at auto cross just not great for the road. She is getting smoother.

My neighbor who is going autocrossing next month with me wants an X5. I've hired a crisis counselour to help me cope with the fact that she doesn't like the cars that I think are cool I was trying to think of cars that are somewhat similar but much better for a young driver.
I was thinking a V6 Rav 4. You can get them for $13k and they will last forever. are there other kinda powerful compact to midsized SUVs that are easy and relatively inexpensive to own. Maybe a turbo mazda cx30?

I got a ticket to the Nutmeg (CT) miata club's autocross event a lime rock. it's the best deal in performance driving in the tri state area and it's once a year. This year I'm taking my college age neighbor as the driver. We're going to practice getting into second in a dead mall parking lot. she's a unusually good and defensive driver for a young person. She's also great at the racing sim pushing a little harder on each turn each time.

There are plenty of other cars that are cool auto commuters like a GTI/Golf R or elantra N. you just can't get great value hacking their lease. I really like the prius I just wish it wasn't so loud to make it easier for Jenny to sleep in. I'm probably the only person cross shopping a mustang and a prius. It has more to do with lease hacking than what I'm lookign for.

I love mazdas, but I love the idea of getting an eco boost as a high mileage commuter car. It's not that different than a rwd BMW 330. All the reviewers say it has soft camry like suspension. I'm commuting in NYC with my wife that's the suspension I want. it even has ventilated seats which the Mazda 3 doesn't have. My broker can get me a better deal on the mazda because the model is a little older now.

I've been car pooling with my wife to NYC. we work nearby, not in the congestion zone, and driving is less expensive than $28 day pass plus $6 subway fare times two people even paying $18 to park. I love the audi but it's weird puttign lots and lots of miles on it. I kind of want an auto GT car but with a turbo 4 for the right mix of power and efficiency for me.

I can't tell if I'm coming out of the chrysalis a middle aged car enjoyer or if cars do really suck now and everything is over priced.
I can't buy a station wagon and everything close to what I want is 40-50k. It's hard to spend that kind of money on something I don't like. No joke the only car that seems worth the price to me is the new prius.

The meshtastic web flasher is pretty good but it's pay to play. they only support devices that pay to be a part of the meshtastic project. mesh forge lets you take any compatible firmware projects and puts it on any compatible device without using a terminal or having any technical knowledge.
Meeting the dev last night was amazing cause he has this project that's hard to explain and it really solves a problem I have. if I can upload the library with a gui a LOT more people can enjoy my project.

The coolest part of us coolaborating is I have code that uses python to upload binaries to the external flash of the microcontroller. this allows me to store stuff like a city coordinate database or a full 13k 5-letter word dictionary for wordle. The mesh forge dev is going to build it into his project so ANY dev can use it without even having to look at my code.
My project is cool, but a lot of people can benefit for this 2kb of code I wrote.

I have accepted a job offer at an org that does natal and childhood health economics research that's a part of a medical school that's part of one of the major research hospitals in the area. I'm pretty excited. due to a lot of facxtors it's going to cost us less to carpool than take public transit. having two manual cars may no longer be a good three car strategy. maybe something fun and electric like a bolt maybe. maybe it's time to take the $40k Taycan challenge.

A car liek this is really desireable because the ramp works in any perpendicular parking spot., you can aso wheel yourself in and a lot of people can get from their chair to the driver's seat and drive. There is an ologopoly of assessable vehicles in america and these cars give a lot of independence for a small amount of money. In japan a new accessible vehicle is under $20k. here the clossest thing is a kia soul with rear entry for $60k.

One of the cool use cases of #SideClique is you can put a small node like a t1000E on your dog's harness and put it into SOS mode if the dog gets lost advertising the location every 30 seconds without wasting battery when it's not in SOS mode. or maybe you go through the woods with your dog off leash or hunt with dogs. this helps you track your dog if something bad happens and you get separated.

I've been fleshing out this idea. It's called #TinyBBS #SideClique: A peer-to-peer decentralized #Meshtastic #BBS for families and friend groups. We have daily Wordle, chess by mess, and a daily LORD based multiplayer RPG based on the game Wastelad which is a meta game inside the fallout world. the wasteland is hashed so it's a daily social game take on an 80s classic Legend Of the Red Dragon type RPG. The RPG is on TinyBBS too, but I was able to move it to SideClique.

I have a vague idea for a fork for my #TinyBSS. a firmware where eery client host a sort of BBS. it would be for families or groups of friends at festivals. I would want stuff liek persistent emergancy messages. if someone drops off the mesh or has their node off you can send a DM to them automatically once they get back online and you get an Ack from the DM. also stuff where parents can store all the GPS movements of the people in their family and store it int he external flash.

I may transition to meshcore. meshcore firmware is much smaller so there's more room for the firmware. Also the way meshcore works I wouldn't flood the mesh with syncing BBS.

that's coming. TC2 has data syncing. what I want to do is a kind of asynchronous datasync for email where nodes can lose contact temporarily or you could have a Beeper size portable BBS that woudl sync your email with your home BBS in a decentralized distributed way. Well at least I hope to add it.

the QSL is cool and a bit of a work in progress. My old ESP32 QSL would get the coordinates and look them up on the internet can give a location name. The off grid nRF52 code has a library of thousadns of cities and their central coordinates. when someoen QSLs we give the location of asking node. For air QSL we can share what city they are over and stuff liek speed and altitude. We can actually detect people in planes from them advertising their node just from altitude and speed.

I have a Full version where you use a #python script to send the knowledge files on the the BBS to external flash. There is a Lite version that's just flash and dash. some NRF boards have less flash and can only run the lite version.
I also wanted to show the minimum hardware requirements for a fully functioning #meshtastic node #BBS. These are so low power you can retro fit a solar light into a solar powered node. the #ESP32 have way more capabilities but are power hogs

I also want to flag #blind and #disability because the entire project is text based. A blind person can load the firmware entirely in text terminal or even use claude code to install everything. The #BBS itself is entirely text. unlike traditional BBS that have more resources I don't have a lot of ASCII/ANSI art that a reader can't deal well with. it's just text.

I was running the #BBS on #ESP32 and making a companion mobile BBS #firmware that ran on NRF. I realized I could actually fit 85% of the BBS functionality on the NRF52.
You can't write to the enormous 2MB of external flash from terminal. however you can connect to the node with BT or serial so I wrote some code that takes up less than 2kb that allows you to send the files to the node and have the node write it to external flash.

I want to give an update about my project #TinyBBS, a #Meshtastic #BBS that runs on the meshtastic firmware itself. It is now NRF52 based. The NRF is a lot more lightweight and energy efficient.
The BBS has Email, bulletins, daily wordle, a pretty rich LORD style multiplayer RPG, survival skills, QSLboard, and Airplane QSL Board. The BBS is about 70KB and I do a neat party trick to store knowledge files like a full 12k wordle dictionary on the external flash.

I got #pokemon running on my tdeck as part of the #meshtastic firmware. It’s not running well but I compiled a GB emulator from source running on this and it can run both Meshtastic and a game boy emulator at once.

Been working on a project, a #meshtastic #BBS that runs directly on a #ESP32 node without needing a #rpi zero running the BBS. I have an alpha up and running and added a daily Wordle game. it has bulletins, Email, and a neat QSL feature for radio nerds.
#meshcore has a "room" firmware with basic bulletin posting. This Does a lot more than that, almost as much as the major python BBS systems that need a raspberry pie to run.

I started a matrix server for cannabis discord "servers" to move to. nearly no one was interested. These alternatives are great but it takes a group mortivated to move and learn new things. our community works because were were the 5-10% of weird car twitter that was eager to move to ani corporate platforms.

I'm working on a wearable computer concept where I use a lilygo T-Deck as the #meshtastic device for a #BBS and run a BBS on a RPI zero with an e-ink screen that I will either clip to a lanyard or wear as a watch. I'm tryign to use the Pwnagatchi project case for the BBS. I have to figure out how to get the TTY output on the e-ink screen to see the BBS activity. People have made meshtastic BBS but not really wearable/portable units.

On reddit someone asked the same question about a porsche sports car over the 911. It seems like if you force everyone to pick something expensive they just want a carrera GT.
If you made a modern carrera GT you could make the same power with a V8 and maybe even twin turbo. I honestly think a sports car sloted above the 911 is pretty dumb. Not a fan of the 918 TBH. that's the only thing that would be cool, especially with a stick.

I would love to see them make a modern RS3 type car with the golf R/RS3 platform and the 2.5 turbo from the 718. I would love to see a car on that platform with Porsche tuning and tactical feedback. It could be. The 911 is to the 718 as the macan is to a Porsche hit hatch. Smaller more affordable and possibly more fun.

I've been watching Cop Rock. This show is pretty amazing but the race based crack era stuff is really dated. I heard John Oliver made fun of this show I'm curious if he discusses this.
For anyone unfamiliar with cop rock it's a hard boiled musical police procedural. It's a pretty standard police procedural, but they also do musical numbers. I used to think the show failed because it was a horrible idea but I have to say part of it is the execution.

At some point I will make a bigger abotu this but it's looking like I might have to sell my Fit if my unemployment runs out in two months. and the job I'm up for is in manhattan so even if I commute by car it probably won't make sense to own two manual cars. I'd like it to find a good home. It's very well set up by Tailored Chassis solutions, who really know fits. let me know if you're interested or know someone who might be.
