Oh, yes, definitely. And it brings to the surface a far scarier scenario, their culture and anti-bullying systems are not effective. Students would rather keep quiet even in anonymous surveys (independent or government) even though they knew it would help the country.
Even in government reports to the OECD, the rank with the lowest school violence with the grouping. So that means the victims don't trust the system or the bullies are silencing them.
Sadly, we'll never know because only few are honest even on anonymous surveys.

Yep! We initially fought back but Asians being Asians: "if you have nothing hide" and/or "just create one and don't use it, problem solved". 😅
Meta cornered certain cultures without them doing anything. It's why Meta and Twitter rarely react about the #SocialWeb , they have a solid market elsewhere. The North Americans, Europeans, Australians, can all stop using Meta products and Twitter, they still have a huge market in CJKM + ASEAN + South Asia. The Philippines, India, and Indonesia alone can sustain them.
If the Open Social Web really intend to change the landscape, it should focus on these three countries first, then spread to the mentioned three regions. Social Web movements are too focused on the Western (NA, EU, AU) markets, that's why it's not making a dent on these corps.
Those of us at the grassroots can only do so much. We need coverage, write-ups, events, education, campaigns, and financial support.

Did you know that it is mandatory to have a #Facebook account in our National ID data? If you don't have one, we're required to create one even if we're not going to use it.
If I'm not mistaken, the US Embassy here in the Philippines won't believe a Filipino doesn't have a Facebook account, so if you can't show any, you have less chances of getting approved, not outright denied but it will still affect the visa applicant.

So, this is far worse than I imagined. Because #Meta demanded to link #Facebook accounts to #Instagram last year, if your Instagram is gone, you won't be able to login to your Facebook either because it wants to be verified via Instagram—the two-factor authentication is useless.
Instagram's very high false positive, and not offering a channel to appeal the wrongful suspension, cut me off from not just the #Filipino community in #Threads but also from my network, friends, and relatives in Facebook.
The hard truth: the #Philippines and the Filipino people are at the mercy of Meta, in particular, Instagram.

The truth is, #WebP is only a stopgap. The real deal is #AVIF and ultimately #JPEGXL (.jxl).
JPEG-XL is superior in almost everything. In the very few cases that it is not, that's where AVIF comes in.
We can get rid of WebP, old JPEG, GIF, later on. Maybe even PNG and APNG.
