Unless you want a nickel's worth. npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee This... Already have the machines npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee When was this recorded please? https://fountain.fm/episode/zd5q3mF7xwjfmpuHZ5kR #nevent1q…zhqf npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee Except for the flying cars, not far off the mark. npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee Will it bitch at me for not emptying my pockets before putting pants in the hamper though? npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee No audio coming through. Other TFTC shows no problem. This one seems to be blank (at least for the first minutes). https://fountain.fm/episode/3eELCGlKHBnHX3JbgSm4 #nevent1q…klj5 npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee An unanswered question from the article is where Tether stores their UST now. Most probably realize that treasuries can't just be put in your pocket or stored in a sock drawer. Typically, they're custodied at a financial institution. And financial institutions that custody treasuries are "inside " the US financial system and subject to hard power and soft influence of the USG. On some level, it seems to me that Andrino's resistance to MiCA is also a bet against the European vision of digital assets in favor of the American view. (Side note: the article also did not mention Tether's bitcoin holdings which, as the USD price of bitcoin increases, would likely make it the dominant asset on Tether's books (ceteris paribus). What UST/BTC reserves ratio does Andrino have to maintain to stay in the good graces (or at least not on the target list) of the USG, specifically the Department of the Treasury? Unknown. In any case, for now he might take a lesson from Pavel Durov's extended vacation in Paris and avoid the continent for a while, too. This will be interesting to watch play out as the price runs for sure.) npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee yes. there is the Setec Astronomy aspect of quantum computing and potential exploitation of normal network security. a scary scenario for sure... in which case we all might be screwed.... at least in the short term. one would think though, following that "fictional" movie pattern, that an entity controlling that capability would try to keep existence and use quite secret until at least several years of exploitation by themselves (state actors?), no? question: even if "they" had the discipline to resist "detectable" market interference would they also be able to resist meddling with our bitcoin? let's say it's decide to mess with the Bitcoin network... question: what dev energy would be required to make Bitcoin network hard enough to resist Setec Astronomy? at least for mining, after ~2,000 blocks (two-ish weeks at regular rate) the difficulty level would adjust, theoretically making the target number so small that *only* a quantum computer would be able to mine.... so maybe that would work itself out? question: separately, what could be done to protect private keys from discovery (that's if I am understanding the implications of quantum being able to reliably work a hash backwards)? npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee concur, Lyn it's one reason to be here among many others... and a good one, too npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee this is a big deal https://bitcoinmagazine.com/business/russia-legalizes-bitcoin-and-crypto-for-international-trade-to-bypass-sanctions npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee question for you @npub1a2c…w83a if you had a choice between banks participating directly in bitcoin and no banks (just organic growth) which option would you prefer and why? npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee This gets me thinking about creation of "easy" financial products that emulate the familiar, targeted toward people who can't be bothered to learn about bitcoin. Yes. I know. There are examples now in companies like Fold and self-custody or multi-sig IRA... these are primarily opt-in vehicles for those who have studied a bit. I'm just wondering out loud whether there's something to be done *within financial institutions* to "supercharge" legacy financial products by adding a dash of bitcoin to the mix. What about paying interest on accounts in bitcoin? A typical retail/consumer savings account might earn 2% or less and a typical interest-checking account might earn 0.25%. Perhaps if the offer was "interest paid in bitcoin to your institutional account (custody)" or, for those who bother to learn self-custody, "interest paid in bitcoin to your KYC'd self-custody wallet of choice?" Incentives seem to align here. Thoughts? npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee Can anyone point me to the primary infrastructural vulnerabilities of the ethereum blockchain? I recall arguments about centralization of validators, about necessity of AWS in many cases, and some tcpip element upon which the entire infrastructure depends (need deets there). Check my profile and you might be able to see why I'm asking... Can't share more unfortunately. @npub12rv…85vg npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee Excellent episode on Revault and Linera from @stephanlivera https://fountain.fm/episode/ubZGp5GY4wzNS8bAHOZJ npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee thanks I think 🤔 is that a gift for me? pretty cool, regardless npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee This would be nice... though tbh I only understand 80% of what you just said I can point to a potential use-case with a ready made user base(s)... no need to wait for the adoption curve. ...Wondering how one might implement an 'internal nostr' for a company to replace the typical suite of Microsoft products (outlook, office, teams, etc.). ///skipping past all the general and specific requirements you might want to dump into Jira for your agile story... straight to a potential limiter (with silver lining)/// This might imply need to 'translate' items in & out to support external comms for business, etc. Or, could simply not translate at all in order to 'compartmentalize/sequester' the company nostr instance (to prevent spillage of any sort). Banks, university researchers, healthcare, government... all endeavors that might consider inviting the Lost Boys Kiefer Sutherland character in the front door b/c they see advantage. (Give it some time and shake lightly, et voila! You've made bitcoiners.) npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee Looking forward to this. npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee Happy birthday, Mr. Nakamoto, wherever you are! npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee thanks for sharing that. I was unaware of the charges being dropped in a separate jurisdiction. npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee will check it thanks npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee What you say makes sense. Do you also see the possibility that game theory will make 'zero KYC' options an attractive offering both for individual companies/merchants and for jurisdictions? All one needs to do is to break the seal and recruit first followers like Sampson Maow (sp). is trying to do. npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee Thank you npub1kp2cktgg2qg2va2u5shhq7l4e3fk6qq98dyxzxwkl6vu83xtz83smx9n8c Lee checked into getalby today to get my own readable lighting address but saw they're invite-only now. any recommendations out there for another service or method? tyia
