Eleven years ago I released GECO, the first musical gesture controller that allowed musicians to create in multiple dimensions with both hands in thin air. Today, the interest in this space is bigger than ever and after releasing GECO v2 last year, it's still very much holding its own.

during my morning sword practice I remembered another big difference between sword and spear, you can't really use a spear indoors or in non-open areas (pillars, alleyways, ...), that does limit its usefulness overall

anyway, spear is one of the four weapons I'm focusing on these days, it's not my favorite and it's really hard to train with since you need a lot of space, but it is very effective indeed

yeah it seems a good video, I only watched a part but it's clear that the spearman are inexperienced and mostly stab with the spear, what people often forget is that the spear head can also be used to cut, and does so at a distance, where it then becomes like a really fast tiny dagger or sword. They're also using none of the spear swinging or flower techniques that make it much much effective in defending against a variety of other weapons.

straight swords and daggers also weapons you can consider carrying with you when you go anywhere. A spear or a long staff is much harder to bring along and you'll actually bump it into things all the time :-D

his spear choice makes a lot of sense as it combines the strengths of many different weapons. The weapons practice I've been studying over the years incorporates as much body martial skill and nimbleness as weapons skill. I started out feeling a lot of affinity for the regular staff and worked with two staffs at the same time at one point. Nowadays, I like the compactness and nimbleness of a double-edged straight sword, or even the double daggers.
