Yesterday we learned the hard way that for the 40+ years we’ve lived here our power company has been disregarding their own rules about how close our live oaks can be to the power lines. Yesterday they followed the rules and cut off probably 80 years’ growth. I burst into tears when I saw it. Would be sad about any of our trees getting butchered like that, but I hold live oaks as sacred.

Somehow I have ended up with no dark blue or blue-black #FountainPen ink. I have black, deep red, pink, orange, green, turquoise, and purple, but no dark blue.

I think the distinction for me is that there isn’t a multimillion-dollar industry built by charismatic, smart-sounding people posing as authorities (even as legit healthcare workers!) to convince naive young adults on ebikes, who’ve only just learned to ride, that riding without a helmet is not only safe but MUCH SAFER than using one. Many of these people who’ve suffered freebirth tragedies are first-time moms trusting women who’ve given birth half a dozen times and claim to be experts.

True, but the big freebirth influencers cause tons of tragedies while raking in millions. And in this particular cemetery plot, seven of the nine children were stillborn (or died immediately after birth) rather than dying from illness, so I feel like the freebirth movement is relevant.

Finally cleared a clog in my Platinum Preppy 02 EF #FountainPen. Had been driving me crazy for months. What did the trick was soaking the nib in water mixed with a drop of dish soap and a small splash of white vinegar.

My favorite Jinhao Shark #FountainPen, the maroon one I keep inked with Diamine Writer’s Blood, broke. I managed to tape it so I can use up the last of the ink, but I’m going to miss having it. 😭

I wish more people realized #FountainPens aren’t necessarily expensive or inaccessible (which was the misconception that kept me from getting into them sooner). My Platinum Preppy ($4) inked with Waterman Tender Purple ($8) writes like SILK. It makes me want to keep writing just so I can use it more.

#Science Mastodon, help! Chapote (Texas persimmon) trees are a huge part of our ecosystem in central Texas, and suddenly many of ours are dying the same way, which I’d never seen before. They’re Chinese-made pens that I believe are meant to be dupes of the TWSBI Eco, so piston fillers. The funny thing is that everything else about them works really, really well for how cheap they were; the caps are the only major drawback I’ve noticed.

That makes sense, and unfortunately these are cheap pens with caps that aren’t properly sealed around where the clips attach. I’m not sure if there’s any way to fix that. Thus far it’s been okay, because I write with them every day and go through the ink fast enough that it doesn’t get a chance to dry up.

Any #FountainPen folks know why several of my pens write darker at first on every use, then lighten to the ink’s “normal” color? See photo for example. This ink is meant to be pink. The pen is a piston filler, and this is the only color I’ve ever put in it. I’ve used up about 2/3 of the first fill.
