That may well be what Eby imagines for himself, but the numbers tell a different story. The same poll mentioned above found a whopping 41% of the NDP's own voters disapprove of him, which is more than enough to bring his government down.
The safe bet is the party ejecting him and replacing him with someone else well before the next election. As things stand, facing the voters with Eby still in place would be an act of self-destruction for the NDP.

Today, Carney has no private backer, unanimous oppostion from First Nations, no carbon capture facility (which doesn't work anyway), and now he's backed down on the price of pollution, giving Alberta an extra ten years to pollute at artificially low costs.

None of the conditions in his MOU have been met, and Mark Carney just keeps on retreating and backing down.

Smoke from wildfires is a form of air pollution, carrying toxic gases like sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide, as well as fine particulate matter. Other sources of air pollution, from car and truck exhaust to power plants and oil and gas facilities, are also hazardous to our health.

According to CAPP, oil & gas are just 3% of Canada's GDP. A switch to renewables would create millions of new jobs; O&G has been steadily cutting jobs & closing offices in Canada for more than a decade. The improvement in air quality by itself would deliver enormous savings in our health care system, not to mention improve our quality of life. Carney is sacrifing the rest of our economy to protect this tiny toxic little sector, which continues to make the rest of us poorer, less heathly, less safe.
Also: Carney isn't walking any line or fighting any battles. From the MOU with Danielle Smith to breaking his election promise to end subsidies to O&G, from promising to lift the 50-year-old tanker ban on BC's coast to pushing Trump to re-start Stephen Harper's long-dead Keystone XL pipeline, from crippling our national EV sales to setting us on a path to miss *every single one* of our national emissions reductions targets, Carney's been all in on climate-wrecking policies.

I've heard this line of reasoning before -- but there's really nothing progressive about Carney's pursuit of fossil fuels, widespread cuts to our services, support of Donald Trump and alignment with Danielle Smith and Doug Ford. Even Mulroney was to the left of Carney, which is saying a lot.
Gladu was one of the nuttiest of the CPC's far right-wingers -- pro-convoy, anti-vax, anti-choice, pro-Trump, etc etc. That she feels at home in Carney's party should end any illusions of Carney being a secret progressive.

What I see is that you're so attached to an apocalyptic fantasy of social collapse that you're not responding to any of the issues I've put forward. Canadians are heavily invested in their cars, which allows them to commute to their jobs, which allows them to pay their mortgages; the banks are not interested in taking any haircuts on all the debt Canadians owe that keeps their lives going, and Carney is certainly not interested in inconveniencing the banks. How do you convince any of them to give up "modernity"?
I personally know two professional individuals in my neighbourhood who drive more than an hour to work, each way, every day. There are no alternate public transport options available. What would you say to them? Stop driving, stop working, stop paying their mortgages?

You're retreating into apocalyptic fantasy. Asia's economies will certainly take a serious hit from an oil price shock, but Asia will not "basically shut down"... and beyond that, you're not seriously claiming Asia is the only area to manufacture tractors, cars etc?
Thanks to our over-dependence on fossil fuels, the US-Israeli war on Iran will have serious knock-on effects for many sectors across global economies, but this isn't the first episode of "The Walking Dead".

Let's just take a moment here. The global supply chain is not being destroyed, but it is coming under what may be unprecedented pressure -- about 1/5 of the world's oil and 1/3 of the world's fertilizer passes through the Strait of Hormuz. The trade disruption caused by the war will continue to drive up prices for everything that's left, for everyone.
What I'm saying is that I cannot imagine any argument that would convince Canadians to give up their cars, their commutes, their jobs and means of paying their mortgages, in exchange for community gardens and no supermarkets, car-free cities and no conventient means of travel. Can you?
A rapid transition from fossil fuels to renewables may not be the best option you can imagine, but it has widespread popular support (even if most politicians won't admit it), and it is the best option on the table right now.

Certainly, international companies and governments refused to learn the lessons from Covid shortages, and supply chains have been allowed to remain too vulnerable for too long.
But we're talking about a six month timeframe in the OP; companies will try to tough it out just like they did in 2021/22, shortages will increase, prices will go up, people will fall further behind waiting for the problem to go away.
If we made the effort to transition our economy off fossil fuels and switch to renewables, it wouldn't be free (nothing is!), and it would take a few years (Uruguay did it in 7) -- but with the significant boost the transition would give to employment, the national economy, the cost of living, it would be the least extreme, the least painful way forward.

On powerlines: No need for those, just solar panels on the roof of the barn! :) Many countries in Africa have been waiting for Western-style centralized power distribution infrastructure for decades, and are now skipping this step entirely, leapfrogging ahead and opting for the decentralized advantages of small scale solar and wind instead.
There are plenty of other reasons why electric tractors are preferable to diesel ones -- lower maintenance costs, less noise, no tailpipe pollution, etc. Now we can add 'immune to oil price shocks caused by Donald Trump's war crimes' to the list.

Community gardens, victory gardens, and supporting local farms are all essential, but unless Canada's politicians kick off something like a dramatic build-out of public transit -- high-speed rail, skytrains, subways, trams, EV buses, etc -- they will be choosing to force Canadians to stick with cars.
For example, so many of us don't live where we work -- for decades, we've been told to "drive until we qualify" for a mortgage -- and without public transport, that commuting distance keeps many people trapped in cars. Maybe if we had greater adoption of virtual commuting, car-free communities might be an easier sell...
As for farming -- the transition from fossil fuels to renewables is a serious challenge, but it's happening!

It's not just Venezuela, as the article points out. When Trump withdrew from trade negotiations over Ontario's (accurate) Reagan commercial, when Trump sanctioned judges at the ICC (including a Canadian), as Trump threatens Greenland, etc -- Carney always, *always* retreats. Canada's values are supposed to include human rights and international law -- though if you've been watching Carney for the last year, you'd never know it.
Also, keep in mind that Trump has repeatedly threatened Canada's own security. If we won't stand with other countries when they're targeted by a rogue United States, how can we expect anyone to stand with us when it's our turn?
