Re: that fundraiser, lightning accepted. 30,000,000sats (~$20,000) should be enough to buy a good vehicle for delivery to the front (by me or course). Less money, lesser vehicles ($3k shitboxes get good usage).
The guy in the photo with me, Sergii Sumlemny, runs a drone foundation. He thinks about $1,000,000 should be about right to build enough drones to take back a Ukrainian town. Last summer Ukraine released a report estimating that it costs ~$900 in drones to kill or seriously injure a Russian. Now is an especially good time to do it as they're flailing due to lack of Starlink.

Russians aren't. Russia is fighting almost entirely with volunteers. It's illegal in Russia for conscripts to be used within Ukraine, and that law is fairly well followed. The Russians dying in huge numbers are something like 95% volunteers, and paid very well for the risk they took.
Ukraine does have the draft, and those men do get used to defend Ukraine. Also, a lot of people volunteer in liu of getting drafted. I personally know a few people who volunteered because they'd rather be able to choose their assignments.

Depends on the circumstances. If you have a good source of clean cardboard that can be easily shipped to a recycling plant the economic value of the cardboard can certainly be higher recycled vs burnt.
Let the market decide.
Note that one consideration is recycling cardboard mixed with plastics is definitely a microplastics hazard as it produces a lot of microplastics contaminated wastewater. If you just incinerate it properly, you eliminate that hazard. Some uses of cardboard for packaging have a lot of plastics mixed in; others do not. We might be better off eliminating consumer paper recycling in favor of incineration, and allowing more controlled recycling (eg boxes from wearhouses) to continue.
...and yes, in general we should be using incineration a _lot_ more to fully eliminate plastic waste rather than leave it for a future generation to deal with.

At the moment about a million Ukrainians in Dnipro are without any power, and many of those don't have heat or water. Weather is expected to reach -13°C soon.
The sooner Ukraine manages to collapse tbe Russian electricity grid the better. The fact that the internet so easily goes down is a good sign of lack of resiliency.
At some point Russians freezing to death stop paying the taxes that funds their genocide. And no tax paying Russian is a civilian – they're all active participants in genocidal war, and just as valid military targets as Russian soldiers are.

Also, you are assuming cause and effect. The US is a rich, well developed country with an unusually high black population due to slavery. She came in 2022 when the situation was looking a lot worse. Russia occupied a much larger % of Ukraine, and it wasn't clear that Ukraine could stop them. Russia was also having success during and after 2022 in destroying infrastructure: for awhile gasoline and diesel was in short supply, and the Ukrainian power grid was nearly destroyed. Both issues have been fixed since. But had things gone differently entire cities probably would have had to be evacuated.
Another issue is economic: she might not have been able to get work in Ukraine, as the economy is certainly being harmed by the war, especially earlier on . She clearly could in the US.
But yes, in hindsight she moved to somewhere that in her case was probably more dangerous for her personally. Especially as she was poor enough to need to take public transit.
Of course, it's not as simple as that. Not everyone can deal with the constant Russian attacks. Having to be sleeping in shelters to be safe at night takes a big toll on many people; the alternative of knowing that Russian drones are flying around, quite possibly killing you, isn't good either.
Some people deal with that really well – I know people who can sleep through nearby explosions. Other people do not. I personally am somewhere in between: I can't easily sleep though it. But fear doesn't really bother me.

Update: tonight's attack by Russia set a new record, 800 drones, along with some missiles (I got woken up again by cruise missiles getting intercepted in the morning – hard to explain how awesome that sound is).
In Kyiv, two deaths: a woman and her young child murdered by a Russian attack on an apartment building. They also hit some government buildings in Kyiv for the first time, and even killed a bunch of horses with multiple shahed drones on a horse stables just outside of Kyiv. Never underestimate Russian pettiness and evil.

The anti-aircraft fire coming out of the burning site is hilarious.

I have plenty of friends in Ukraine, including active duty military. And I spend a fair bit of time there for various reasons, such as the active Bitcoin community there.
It's very common among Ukrainians to have views similar to mine. Or even more "ruthless". Russia has a long history of massacring Ukrainians, and this war itself goes back to 2014.
You know, pretty much every Ukrainian town has a war memorial somewhere with the names of soldiers who have died defending Ukraine and the dates they were born and died. Even now a significant % of those dates are pre-2022.

Some very good news: Reuters estimates that Ukraine's campaign of air strikes against Russia's economy has managed to take out 17% of oil refining capacity.
Not just oil and gas either: farming has been so badly hit that Russia recently put restrictions on bankruptcies of farming companies to try to slow down the collapse.

Hugely inefficient if you only want heat, maybe. But the trick here is you want the PV first and foremost to produce electricity. The heat pile is just to make use of the excess.
Also, be careful about assuming that PV is in fact inefficient... Under the right circumstances I'm sure electricity to move heat is cheaper than pipes with fluids in them.

Ok Saturday I went to the K-41 nightclub in Kyiv. It's similar to Berghain, with a bouncer girl at the door who rejects you if you aren't the right "vibe". They're kinda woke, and insist you agree to their non-discrimination policy, no cameras, lots of trans people, etc. etc. If the music wasn't good I certainly wouldn't go.
The entrance fee is a minimum $10 donation to a military unit to buy drones. Turns out the left aren't stupid when evil men really are trying to murder them.
K-41 probably gets 1000 attendees on a Saturday night. That means ~$10,000 to the military unit, or ~10 casualties at $1000 marginal cost/casualty. Fatality rate is ~50%, so that's five more Russian soldiers killed in the course of us having a party.
Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if 10% of the men there had actual combat experience at this point. There was even one guy clearly recovering from combat injuries. No-one is complaining about where the money was going.

Really interesting stats from Ukraine's Unmanned System Forces (aka drones).
The big one: the marginal cost to kill or seriously injure a Russian with drones is just $911 USD.

I've personally spoken to quite a few soldiers at different units (units have fundraising and recruiting booths at basically every big event in Ukraine), and they all say the same thing: a remarkably high percentage of their drone funding comes from private donations. A big problem is Western military aid tends to be tied to specific weapons systems – not money – so the overall resources can't be spent optimally.
Of course, it's not like the war itself costs $911/Russian casualty – there's lots of other costs and investment necessary to get there. But the fact that units are still short on drones even though relatively little investment would fix this is absurd.
Also, I don't keep track. But I wouldn't be surprised if just my personal donations – anonymously with Bitcoin – have resulted in the deaths of a few Russians. You can easily make a difference.

Good to see this finally getting some mass media attention. Russia's widescale hunting of Ukrainians civilians with drones is truly evil.
You have literally thousands of drone operators who have personally seen unarmed Ukrainian civilians on their camera displays, and dropped grenades on them for the express purpose of killing off a population so they can steal the land. And they know exactly what they're doing. Hell, they were disappointed when they missed – Russia uses this as a way to train new operators.
Russian culture needs to be exterminated.

It's hard to overstate how pathetic Trump is.
It's Iran. We can just destroy their pathetic, violent, county. We don't need to negotiate, let alone allow them to enrich uranium.
Tell Israel to destroy their nuclear power plants and oil/gas production by any means necessary and Iran's nuclear program and genocidal ambitions are finished. We don't even need to get involved.
It's the exact same pathetic weakness that has led Trump to accomplishing precisely nothing with Russia.
