This is a case where I think all sides are right, being closed source does give a short term advantage in security, but it also means that if there is a bug and only a few people know about it, they can probably exploit it till forever if they're smart about it, open source does make it easier to surface the bug, but given enough time, (gettimg shorter as AI advances) most of these bugs would be exploited, making whatever resultant systems are left, extremely secure.

Sometimes some of the work that you do isn't because you want to do it.
Sometimes it's because you feel like it HAS to be done. The energy you feel when you do it, is multiplied, it goes from a good feeling to an almost religious experience.
I'm not an otherwise religious person, but when I go into stuff like this is when I feel the most connected to the universe.

If you wish to see results I would recommend trying the yggdrasil mesh, its much much mature, but people are leaving it for fips. But it works better out of the box because of its mature tooling, I use it to break CGNAT restrictions all the time, primarily so that I don't have to host my own heads ale or use the abhorrent tailscale

So in the mesh you have an address an npub in case of fips, and you can reach other npubs on the mesh just through that pointer, hence direct.
How mesh beats CGNAT is similar to how wireguard breaks NAT but instead of one public server all nodes share routing responsibilities

Would you rather use a centralized FOSS app or just a closed source one?
FOSS helps us give confidence over what is happening and it's even better if they are frontend because then we know exactly what happens after our clicks and before the resultant data goes to the server, and we can judge wether we are comfortable with that exchange.

I had to modify the fips binary so that it's embeddable, then had to make a Java bridge so I can bridge it to android, then a capacitor plugin so I can use it with a webview. Still early testing it out with my own things before I publish

Yes, but the problem is you have e to decrypt all messages regardless of wether they are or are not spam. Which is a huge overhead, but yes this is still useful even though it might not be as useful as I initially thought

- Suprised to see so few people sticking to Apple. I thought there'd be more considering the apps being developed for them on nostr.

Yes Kimi K3 uses more tokens for the same tasks, but even then it is at an average 10x cheaper for me on most tasks than Fable 5.
