I really like the old Lucas graphical adventure games: Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Monkey Island 1, 2 and 3, Indiana Jones, Loom. Some of them have remastered editions that make it easier to play, but I think GoG made a really good job with their versions too. They are puzzley games that make you think out of the box sometimes. They have great stories too. I learned a lot of English playing those games as a kid.

It is great. We have observations and discussion group at the end of the day. We care deeply for each other's kids too, so the sense of community is a huge part of why we are in it. It makes homeschooling / unschooling easier when you're not alone. And Montessori materials are expensive too, so having a community to share the cost with helps a lot.
My son is really proud when he tells people he doesn't have to sit still in a classroom to listen to what a teacher has to say. He gets to choose his own work and materials and that makes him happy. And he is most definitely more advanced than kids his age in traditional schooling.

The problem you'll face with that is that Google / FB obviously work better. I selfhost Nextcloud and I like it, but unless people are made aware of why you shouldn't use centralized, Big Tech stuff all they'll see is a subpar alternative.
Why get a NC account when everybody has FB / Google already and it offers a beautiful garden? Most people don't know that the garden is walled, but of those who know or are made aware only a small fraction will care.
I'm in homeschooling groups. I haven't tried to descentralized or FLOSSify them. I had little success with friends and family in the past and I'm jaded...
That being said, @nprofile…hsg6 if you plan to create some sort of homeschooling platform based on free software, I'd be happy to help.

I don't remember how similar / different they are, but the main difference is that the 1960 version was b&w, so the albino effect is a lot more efficient. I think I liked the original better, but it's been a long time since I watched them.

I saw this in your book and I agree. I lost my job recently but my wife and I have peace of mind: we stacked sats and stayed humble, so we can navigate this temporary lack of income much better than if we had an emergency fund in depreciating fiat.

That makns more sense to me. In my family we're already there: unschooling, carnivore, hoping to homestead, using technology as a tool not as a lifeline, etc. And I can see the same here in Nostr.
My lack of hope comes from having seen the early days of the internet and the centralized Big Tech mess that it is now. And I'm seeing the same with Bitcoin with stuff like ETFs and paper Bitcoin. But, like you said, we don't have to live in that world.

@nprofile…7dle I saw this in your book. And while I'd like to believe this will be true, I see people giving away their data to Google, Microsoft, Apple, Meta, X. I've been using FLOSS for almost 30 years now and very few people make the move for moral reasons, at least initially.
I'd like to believe in this future you paint here, but I'm skeptical.
I like the book overall, I just think that a lot of it, particularly pic related, come with too much hopium.

It's funny because since I posted my reply and reading yours I reevaluated my entire future, and I had completely forgotten this note you posted (or maybe it was in the back of my mind all day long...)
The Great Hesitancy is making it impossible for me to get a job, so I decided to build something on my own. I don't know that I'll be able to charge and pay in bitcoin, but at least I'd hopefully be able to keep stacking sats while opting out of the rat race / working somebody else's fiat mine. There's great risk, and I have a family to provide for, so it's definitely scary, though.
