are people still against Matrix? if so.. why?
as far as I can tell it is the best federated chat platform there is.
AFAICT, the 'decryption failed' meme seems to purely be about users forgetting to verify their devices, which should be easier than with Signal because if you have it running on any two devices (web is fine too) then it's a matter of clicking 'looks good' on the other device, and your keys will propagate.
it also scales better than anything else out there AFAICT. ..so.. why not?

and what am I looking for, then, if not distractions or mental and social fillers?
and so, the hermit thoughts repeat, endlessly, fruitlessly trying to break out of an invisible cage we are not designed to break out of, only observe.
focusing on it will never fix these issues.

I'm also starting to get very tired of this extremely selective "accepted money from evil people" rhetoric.
Like, do you want big tech's obscene wealth to actually leak out into opensource projects or not?
Because nothing would please the shareholders more than those companies halting their donation programs.
I'm starting to get so incredibly tired of social mass hysteria cycles on this platform, you're not going to solve anything by angrily kicking the shins of those who are on your side

I think I'm just going to say it.
Fediverse has a strong negative echochamber about AI. And I get it, there are many issues I think the industry needs to address.
But there are also many many people out there, big and small, on all sorts of projects, open and closed, that are successfully using it to do good work.

Thank you for pointing me to this, I honestly only saw Soatok's take on it.
I guess saying 'ignoring' here is incorrect, my apologies, it's hard to be concise in 500 characters. I could've sworn the reply was "it's fine actually" which isn't optimal either
Looking into the PRs though, it appears that plenty work has been put into improving it, so perhaps I can remove that point entirely (which would be neat!), although I'm also not sure if all the raised points got addressed; did they?

it seems the aurora has subsided already, I haven't seen much of it in the last hour, I do still see a faint shimmer on the horizon but nothing like the clear moving sheen across the sky that I could readily see with my unadjusted eyes and capture with simple photos
It's interesting to see, that must've been really fast moving particles from the solar storm, usually it takes longer for these to arrive, I'm guessing we'll see more intense auroras in the next few hours/days, keep an eye out!

that's a fair criticism honestly, I hadn't seen anyone saying that so far.
And aside from the performance objections, I think mastodon/fedi is a bit weird in that sense. If you e.g make a followers-only account and only ever post followers-only interactions, you can technically make a little "private circle", social media style group chats, which COULD be secure, if MLS was there. So I do understand the appeal, also beyond DMs, which I also believe don't need a protocol if MLS works well
