I wrote iOS code at a previous job that would download podcasts in the background and then just delete the mp3 any time a user opened our app. It was shady as fuck. I’m no longer with that company and don’t know if they are still doing it. I don’t want to name the company and get sued but if you find my LinkedIn I’m sure you could figure out who the company is 😉

opus seems to be miles ahead of any open source local model. My dream is Meta gets Llama on par just in time for Apple to release M5 max chips in a Mac Studio (which should be powerful enough?)

the $100/month plan is plenty. I’m a professional software dev and I use it all day every day. Unless you have 10 instances running all day everyday you don’t need the $200 plan.

Has anyone here tried https://openrouter.ai/ ?
I want to move away from using 100% Claude code. But I don’t want to only use local LLMs.

no back-end needed. But it will only work with lightning wallets that support NWC. and obviously they need to be online for the app to connect.

for better or worse it seems like Apple is the podcast world source of truth. As long as they remain benevolent that is ok for PI. We’re here for the inevitable day when they stop being a good actor. That’s my 2 cents

well said. This is almost at the point where you can’t have a standalone mobile app. You need a server to handle this logic. Unfortunately I think we’re a long way off from this stuff being something that is easy to build in a mobile app.

What podcast apps are people using on iOS? I’m not trying to be a hater, but the new overcast is just bad. It loses my position in an episode. It’s sad to see. This was always such a great app.
