The risk/reward top for BTC happened in 2017. Since then we have CBOE/CME to "tame the market" and ETFs and other CEX tools to (naked)short the market. Since 2017 Bitcoin flat lined vs gold.

The problem with quantum tech is two fold.
It makes scaling harder for bigger cryptographic proofs.
We don't have a broad enough understanding within cryptographers about weaknesses/potential backdoors.
Some cryptography Monero uses is already "quantum proof". So to take out the wind of their sails it would be sensible to play along with their narrative, maybe even pushing it.
But taking care as good as we can of the two mentioned things above.

That implies correlation. Monero is the least correlated coin in the space.

Why? The 50k were always the target for a correction.
What you like many Bitcoiners didn't understand even after we Monero Bros were screaming it from the roof tops is: fractional reserves are back, loaning out ones BTC for fiat is back.
Price since 2017 is underperforming because fractional reserve ratios ate constantly increasing.
125k top vs 400k top (conservative projection) represents a 33% backing of funds which is more than enough.
From Monero we learned that only below 10% often below 5% withdrawal problems start to arise. Next top will be muted even more. I'd guess 180k at a fractional reserve ratio of 10% which would represent a fully realised price of almost 2M peak.
CME, CBOE and now ETFs are a deal with the devil. It will hinder price discovery for years to come.

To add to that, what many people still don't know.
Bcash fork didn't happen over blocksize, which could have happened at any further stage as community consensus becomes clearer.
It happened over SegWit and the neccesity to preserve a state of Bitcoin without it. It came with 8M blocks at that time as the fork was driven by big blockers. From.a legitimacy perspective it was a failure to combine the two things instead of giving more time for a blocksize consensus e.g. conservative dynamic blocksizes as BCH has today.

Bcashers called out SegWit as a design flaw for various reasons. A good start is questioning ourselves why we didn't listen.
If less people would have fallen for the Core propaganda we could have much nicer things today. InFinITe blocks are obviously bad for decentralisation, but absolute ImUtAbIlITy long before the protocol has been finished is a community failure and a misunderstanding of consensus game theory. Think about privacy, or quantum upgrades that all depend on hard forks.
They happened on other chains, while maximalism claims superiority. Risk reward dramatically shifted from BTC to XMR and BCH.

It derives its functionality and value from an onchain tx. How can it not be a derivative?
Unbroadcasted is the keyword here. Maybe it's a philosophical question to have.
But without finality that an onchain transaction only guarantees through accumulated proof of work you theoretically have nothing more than a signed promise that if everything works as intended should represent a BTC transaction in the future.
The risk that something fails may be < 0.000001%. But it will never be zero.
Take for example the Qubic scenario with Monero. Chances are it would make a mess out of LN transactions and I wouldn't call this a long tail risk.

I see where you are coning from. In this case it might be better to use other terms for what LN represents.
Tokens as in ICOs have a common understanding and meaning in the crypto space.
I personally would call LN a "derivative" that inherits certain Bitcoin functions. But that's another word that is differently understood within TradFi circles.
So for now the only thing that is well understood and correct is that BItcoin onchain and Bitcoin on LN are not the same. They are distinct, have a well defined relationships but certainly different tradeoffs and risk.

I'd be willing to bet that Adam was part of team Satoshi.
After vanishing for some years he came back in late 2013 playing dumb.
But they still got to him making him an offer he couldn't resist.
Blockstream was founded to deliver a heavily limited version of Bitcoin. No privacy/fungibility despite Adam talking a lot about it and no scaling without custodians.
A Bitcoin that would still build on its early reputation, (ironically) prolonging the life span of fiat currency (read control-plane-capital on "freegold") however castrated as a medium of exchange so it wouldn't disrupt the machinery of banking dynasties. At least not too early.

Few here realize that BTC price is now far below highs in 2017 compared to gold.
Long-term growth curve severely damaged.
There will be a move to 1M as USD disintegrates into irrelevancy, but the world moved on.
The US might want to push BTC as the new reserve asset as the rest of the world moved on to a freegold standard.
I am not saying it is time to dump BTC, as itvis always good for another exit pump.
All I say is, that the world as it is will much more likely agree on a free gold standard than a US dominated BTC standard.
And in a freegold world which actually means that SoV and MoE functions are separated, freedom will still exiat for politicians and central banks on an international level. While plebs will getvswrved their CBDCs.
In that post cash (still fiat dependent) world you will need Monero far more than Bitcoin.

As someone who spent almost double the time in Bitcoin than you I want to congratulate you to have found the reason why you are here. Where things cross in our interests we become truely unique gifts to the world.
Though my journey may be unique, ita nothkng specjal. Using Bitcoin for years long before mist people have even heard of it made me aware of its shortcomings as actual money. That's why I started to focus more on Monero and you will too in the future as you use Bitcoin more and as you strat to understand the deeper implications.
I saw hundreds of hard core Bitcoiners resisting the very idea of using Monero. Just like fiat people ridiculed Bitcoiners in 2009-2012. Almost all of those have discovered that Monero is complimentary. That it achieves something Bitcoin can not.

You are thinking of latency, which was mainly about mining coordination. Meaning less orphans and proper block header propagation, so you don't need to send the whole block at first but have time to download the real block data. This especially ba problem if one block follows fast after another.
I don't know if or how BTC fixed it as 4 M propagates almost immediatley, ,but BCH has something called like Xthinner that theoretically enabled Gigabit transaction 5 years ago.
