You can share mute lists, but ya, regex support would definitely be beneficial. Ultimately there are better ways at controlling spam and bots though than a blacklist type approach.

We really need to build a P2P bitcoin exchange on top of Nostr. Things like Robosats, Bisq, and Vexl are nice, I've used many of them extensively, but they're also ripe with fraud abuse which can get your accounts in trouble when trading with the wrong person.
We're almost all bitcoiners here and there is a wide mix of people looking to either accumulate or sell bitcoin. We could use the web of trust with Nostr to find people within our trust circles looking for a partner who we could regularly exchange with. Similar to the idea of Vexl, but rather than needing to find exchange partners via our phone's contact list, we could use our Nostr follows (which are already public) to find trusted people looking to exchange with. From there, all exchange details can be done privately through encrypted communications.
Obviously you can't fully stop fraudsters, but being able to find exchange partners among the people in your community you trust would go along way toward facilitating P2P bitcoin trades which is really needed to help bitcoin fight KYC. I think Nostr is in a prime position to help facilitate this.

Wait, so banks are slow in processing transactions, so to combat that they come up with EWA apps that are really just PayDay loans in disguise. This is creating the problem so that they can come up with an even worse solution. And they claim to be helping people while they're actively robbing them.
Imagine in the future just being streamed your income as bitcoin as you work via lightning. That way you have access to the money you earned immediately. Oh, and also no one can debase the currency you earned robbing your wages through inflation.

I want self-sovereign zaps to be as easy as possible for the end-user as well. But I think some perspective is always good too.
In order to perform a Zap in the alternative fiat world, it would require opening an account with an institution, providing loads of identifying data and documentation, waiting several days for account opening and funds to be transferred, and requiring all parties that will be transferring funds to be a part of the same closed-system and go through the same process each.
While it may require a little technical knowledge in the beginning, this is a battle that can be won because the incumbent system is so disastrously bad in comparison.

Just watched Finding Satoshi this morning. I thought it was a very moving and uplifting documentary.
I went into it thinking it was going to be more sensationalism around who Satoshi is. But there was a lot around the cypherpunk motives for creating bitcoin. In the end, while they presented their theory as to who they think Satoshi is, I think the main take away from the documentary was genuinely about what bitcoin can do for humanity and why it now exists. I definitely recommend giving it a watch.

Influencers with large followings that promote sovereignty on Twitter really need to realize something. They're the ones that will make a big difference by moving off Twitter (and other centralized platforms) and onto Nostr. It isn't enough to co-publish on both platforms.
Continuing to support centralized services doesn't move the needle since followers will not be disrupted in their consumption of your content. They'll continue to just view your content just as they always have.
In order to make substantial change, you must cut ties with the current platform and force your followers to move with you to a new platform.
When Howard Stern cut ties with terrestrial radio, he forced his followers to move to satellite radio if they still wanted to listen to him. He didn't broadcast on both mediums simultaneously. Yes, it resulted in a decrease in the number of listeners he had, but it is the only way to enact real meaningful change.
If you believe in the value of decentralized media like Nostr, then it isn't enough to co-publish on both platforms. You must force your followers onto the new platform if they want to continue to follow your content on the platform that you actually value and espouse.

Ben McKenzie thinks bitcoin is going to zero. This video will age poorly and it already is (it was made in February).
Ben has a common misunderstanding of economics even though he has an economics degree (as he makes everyone acutely aware every time he's on screen). He doesn't understand value. He thinks that because a company generates profits and provides dividends to shareholders, that is why a stock is valuable (something bitcoin doesn't do). But a company only produces a profit and provide dividends if the thing they're producing is valued by consumers. If what they're producing stops being valued by consumers, then no profits and no dividends. Company's can go to zero because of this too.
See, all value is subjective. All investing is speculative. If you're purchasing a stock in a company that produces widgets, you're speculating that people will continue to value widgets in the future.
People value bitcoin for its unique properties. It provides value to people that fiat currencies can't provide. Bitcoin can't be debased or censored. It is an open monetary network that anyone can use. In a world were fiat currencies must continue to be printed in order to stay solvent, bitcoin provides a life raft to people to escape the ravages of inflation. This value is undeniable and it is something that fiat economists don't want to admit.
Bitcoin is not going to zero because people all over the world find real value in it.
Yes, most crypt I currencies are a ponzi scheme at best. But conflating crypto with bitcoin is a common mistake and people that despise crypto for its fraud often can't bring themselves to admit that bitcoin is something different. Something that is providing real value to people.

It is wild that even just over the last year, there has been a massive push for age verification on the internet. Countries, states, municipalities, there are so many accounts of legislation coming out with requirements for age verification. Doesn't matter the political leaning either, they're all on board. Almost like it is a coordinated effort to push the idea that this will "protect the children."
Is this the new encryption backdoor battle that needs to be fought every few years? Nothing about this will protect children and everything about this is to collect more data from citizens.

Just about every one of these "facts" on this website are either false or completely misleading.
For example, yes, no one is denying there have been time periods on Earth that have been far warmer than today. But the Earth was also drastically different during those time periods as well that wouldn't be conducive to the society that humans have built up today. The rate of our warming is also far faster than time periods of natural cycles (such as milankovitch cycles). Those cycles take place over thousands of years are the warming is a result of increased solar intensity (due to Earth being closer to the sun). Again, the facts I listed above exclude this as being a possible cause.
Finally, the website you linked to was started by William O'Keefe who was also a former CEO of the George C Marshall Institute and American Petroleum Institute that has been peddling climate change misinformation for decades as shown in now public archival documents.

Oh ya, definitely a Nostr-wide issue. I previously used Amethyst as well and same issue there. Though I was able to avoid the issue in the past by connecting to my own relay that would multiplex notes from a bunch of public relays, which would save on client data use. But with the outbox model that's not really as feasible. The cost of decentralization I suppose.

Fossil fuels being coal as the largest contributor, which accounts for about half. A much smaller percentage is oil.
But even if it were the major contributor, it is more efficient to drive on the electricity generated from fossil fuel plants than it is to drive on an internal combustion engine with that same fuel. So if all the consumer cares about is their ongoing cost to drive, they're still better off with an EV with rising oil prices.

I retired this year after 10 years of frugality and heavy saving to reach my goals. I owe a lot of that progress to Mr MoneyMustache. But his views on bitcoin were biased and shortsighted. I did far too much defending of bitcoin on his website's forums over the years to an entire following of people who are all too privileged to understand the benefits bitcoin has to the world. Bitcoin aligns perfectly to the FIRE movement, but far too many just don't see it...yet.

Some of satoshi's bitcoin is in P2PK format and some is in P2PKH. So they're both right. Either way, we know for sure there is about 5-10% of the bitcoin supply in P2PK format. So that is a sizable bounty for quantum computers to target unless something is done.

Today is my last day of work after a 22 year career. I worked for an amazing company these last 10 years and they really made it hard for me to say goodbye.

How do you onboard new users into WoT? New users won't be in WoT initially which still means their on-boarding experience is tarnished by spam. Paid relays help, but then that is still expecting new users to finely tune relay lists and pay for relay services to start with.
Sometimes freedom of content like this just requires the user to go through some hoops to see only the content they wish to see.

Don't skew the definition of authoritarianism. A single person performing an action doesn't necessarily mean they have full control of something, which is what is required under authoritarian rule.
Also, just because the market of free and open software chooses a single implementation, doesn't mean other choices don't/won't exist. Choice is never eliminated.

Validity of the security of something comes with time, no? MD5 was secure until it wasn't. What we do know is that current algorithms in use will come under attack from quantum computing at some point. So it makes sense to seek/research alternatives against that threat. Perhaps the "post-quantum" or "quantum-resistant" name is the snake oily part, but ultimately it is a worthwhile endeavor none-the-less. Whether any of the crop of "post-quantum" algos stand the test of time is simply a matter of time...

For sure. Governments will use any excuse to expand power. But we just need to be careful to not use that as an excuse ourselves to disregard real threats and risks. We just need to make sure to put a check on government power while tackling these problems with real solutions.
