The problem: American society gives scammers not just a free pass but status and admiration instead of isolation and shame.
In the world of power and business, scamming people is elevated to high art, everything from endless TOS no on can read to bait and switch ad campaigns to free offers that roll into locked-in subscriptions to insurance companies denying the plain service they sold you to … the list is endless. And the men (mostly) who do this are lauded, followed, even made president. And then on the other end of the scale all kinds of dodgy hustles are accepted in communities that don’t see what other choice they have.
As with most social ills, shaming the perpetrators - especially the wealthiest, most prominent, most ‘white-collar” - and throwing the book at them in proportion to their wealth will work better.
So yes, making them the slimiest of slimy low-lifes requires de-stigmatizing victims so they can speak openly.

Frontrunner Poillievre tells constituents - who already elected someone else, only have him yoinked to parachute in PP - that it’s a “scam”.
Predictably, the response from Poillivre has been to propose band-aid measures that reduce democratic freedom and impose penalties rather than man up and address the underlying problems.

So I (and my ABC vote) want to know: are the projections properly incorporating local context, showing me things I’m not seeing, or are they running national numbers roughshod over local peculiarities and impairing my ability to cast a strategic vote.

In my #yeg riding the NDP has given the CPC incumbent a strong run over the last 2 elections with LPC also rans: right now we have a very strong and active NDP candidate, canvassing since the fall, and a LPC candidate declared at the last minute and only just getting organized. Yet projections consistently place the LPC neck and neck with CPC, and NDP support cratered to 8%, in proportions that look suspiciously like the national figures.

“Duty” … as I said parent have responsibility, not rights.
There are times in which parents must promote the *child’s* rights against the state. As in any case where one person is a caretaker for the rights of another, they are ultimately responsible to *that person* for their exercise and guardianship of those rights.
I whole-heartedly reject the notion that parents have innate rights of their own.

We need to keep repeating these truths loudly and often, in much the same way proponents of laughable concept like ‘trickle-down’ did in order to get everyone to accept them. It took them a couple decades, maybe it will be faster for us since we have the truth on our side 🤷‍♂️

Today: heard a conservative strategist accuse Mark Carney of making “homophobic slurs” about Poillievre.
For reference from Carney’s speech: “A person who worships at the altar of Donald Trump will kneel before him not stand up to him.”
Only an ignorant homophobe would make that about sex, and to dwell on the imagined insult to PP’s masculine pride is to display the speaker’s homophobia for all to see.
Buckle up Canada, CPC media is going dirty, projecting their own worst qualities.

Finally here, at the end, after all the sour grapes and *they* didn’t ever do it right finger pointing, you have arrived at the solution. *You* do something that will build the change you want to see. I have served in dozens of non-profit and community level organizations, and it’s always *after* all the work has been done that a certain group shows up and says it’s all been done wrong.
