⚡️🎮 GAMING - Someone found a way to run DOOM inside Microsoft Paint.
Microsoft Azure CTO Mark Russinovich created a project called DoomPaint, which uses Paint as the game’s display.
Instead of rendering the game in a normal window, every frame is copied into Paint in real time.
The game can run at up to 35 FPS on some systems. It uses the original DOOM engine, supports sound and music, and can load the original DOOM1.WAD shareware files.
The project is open source, another step to getting DOOM to run on just about anything.

⚡️🇬🇧🇫🇷 NEW - Two crypto millionaires got kidnapped and tortured over a drug run in London.
The pair, both French and in their 20s, had driven from Kensington to east London to buy cannabis, and that's when three masked men with a gun and knife grabbed them and hauled them to a flat in Canning Town.
From there it turned into 52 hours of hell. A court heard they were cable-tied, beaten, burned with cigarettes, scalded with boiling water, and fed just one chicken wing between them, all while the gang demanded $150,000 in crypto.
One of them was freed after transferring $30,000, but the other says he was then "sold" to a second gang. The whole thing finally ended in a police chase hitting 70mph through residential streets, which wrapped up with the getaway car crashing into a lamp post.
Six men have now been convicted, though the ringleader ran it all by WhatsApp from overseas and is still out there.
And that's the ugly lesson underneath it. Carry life-changing money on a phone and you become a target for people who'll torture you for the password.

Back in 2023, hardware wallet educator YTCryptoGuide warned that COLDCARD Mk4 allowed users to create a wallet with as little as one dice roll, making it easy for people to mistakenly generate extremely weak seeds.
He also warned the interface could lead users to believe their dice rolls were being mixed with the device’s hardware RNG when, in some workflows, they were not.
Ironically, many advanced users chose dice rolls because they didn’t fully trust the hardware RNG.
This video now carries new significance following the discovery of COLDCARD’s RNG vulnerability.

The attacker’s largest consolidation address, holding 562 BTC, received a dust transaction containing an OP_RETURN message advertising laundering services for a 10% cut.
The sender spent 0.002347 BTC, sent just 1,590 sats to the attacker and returned the rest to a change address. The ad cost roughly $1.30.
The OP_Return message includes the Telegram handle of whoever sent the solicitation, which I will not publish.
There is also no proof the advertised account is authentic.
Most importantly, the stolen bitcoin still has not moved. This was someone approaching the attacker, not evidence the attacker is already laundering the funds.

⚡️‼️ NEW - Coldcard bug may have been caused by a compiler workaround.
A new technical analysis by Core-Lightning dev ddustin suggests the 2021 COLDCARD vulnerability may have started while a developer was trying to connect three layers of the firmware: the wallet’s Python code, MicroPython’s C code, and the STM32 hardware random number generator.
The custom code appears to have conflicted with MicroPython’s existing implementation, likely triggering a compiler error.
The evidence suggests the developer then disabled the hardware RNG by setting MICROPY_HW_ENABLE_RNG to 0, allowing the firmware to compile.
That change had an unintended consequence. When users created new wallets, the firmware no longer used the hardware random number generator. Instead, it fell back to MicroPython’s much weaker Yasmarang software random number generator.
The commit message left by the dev was just the word “runs.”
The analysis argues this is a reminder that developers should never ship security-critical code they don’t fully understand, especially when it protects billions of dollars in Bitcoin.
That speaks volumes about the professionalism and reliability of the company behind it.

An hour later, police walked into her school and arrested her.
here's what happened in between.
Snapchat's AI scanned the private message. flagged it as a potential threat. automatically reported it to the FBI. the FBI forwarded it to local law enforcement. deputies arrived at the school within the hour.
she cooperated immediately. handed over her phone. when shown the message she said: "oh yes. okay. yeah. i'm realizing that was a bad joke. i did not mean it at all serious at all."
police determined she was not a threat. school officials determined she was not a threat. prosecutors reviewed and issued a disorderly conduct charge. she was released the next morning. she lost her student teaching placement.
This means:
Snapchat scans private messages.
Not just public posts or stories. private group chats between you and your closest contacts. automated AI. no human reviewed it first, got flagged and reported.
Snapchat AI → FBI → local police → school → arrest.
in under an hour.
Snapchat's privacy policy says it may share your information with law enforcement when it believes there is a risk of harm. the definition of "risk of harm" is determined by an algorithm.
you are not told when a message is flagged.
you are not told when a report is filed.
you find out when the police arrive.
the message was private.
it wasn't.

My Bitcoin was in cold storage. My keys were on a ColdCard device kept in a safety deposit box that had never been connected to the internet.
This part's nerdy, but here's what happened:
Hackers discovered a vulnerability in the part of the hardware wallet code used to create seed phrases.
This allowed them to use AI to brute force guessing seed phrases.
I was at our cottage and heard about the hack today.
"No way this affects me." I thought.
I logged into Wasabi––software that lets me view my bitcoin wallets online.
Right away I saw lines of red transaction–withdrawals–and I knew.
From 9:36pm - 9:43pm on July 29th, every wallet I had had been emptied.
18.25245043 btc gone. That's just over $1.6 million dollars CAD.
Perhaps the hardest part about this is that I did everything right.
I never shared my seed phrase with anybody. My devices never touched the internet. Everything was kept in multiple safes and safety deposit boxes.
None of it mattered. All because the hardware that created the seed phrase originally had one line in their code from 2021 that had a vulnerability.
I'm filing a police report and a report with the Ontario Securities Commission. But I don't expect to recoup anything.
A part of me is trying to make sense of what just happened. Or try to figure out a lesson in it. I'm struggling. $1.6 million is a staggering amount of money to have stolen.
I guess all that I can think about right now is that I'm so damn happy that I'm an entrepreneur and that my earning potential is under my control. Mark my damn words. I'll recover.

⚡️🚨 RESUME - Nearly 1,200 Coldcard cold wallets were emptied, and $70 million in Bitcoin was stolen in just 41 minutes.
Yet the culprit never gained access to the victims’ devices, recovery phrases, or computers. He simply managed to reconstruct their seeds......
On July 30, an individual stole 1,082.65 $BTC—approximately $70 million—from 1,196 Coldcard wallets.
The funds were transferred in several batches to four addresses.
An attack carried out entirely offline
The attacker did not need physical access to the devices, as the problem stemmed from the way certain seed phrases had been generated.
A flaw in certain versions of the Coldcard firmware resulted in seed phrases that were far too predictable.
The firmware was supposed to use a hardware random number generator. Due to a misconfiguration, some devices used a software generator based, in particular, on the chip’s serial number and data related to its internal clock.
This information appeared random, but could in fact be reproduced or limited to a much smaller number of possibilities.
The attacker could generate millions of candidate seeds on their own machines and then calculate the associated Bitcoin addresses.
When a match was found, they obtained the same private key as the owner and could sign a valid transaction.
The compromised wallets used several Bitcoin address formats, primarily native SegWit.
Several generations of Coldcard devices may be affected, including the Mk2, Mk3, Mk4, Mk5, and Q, depending on the firmware used when the seed was generated.
The attacker reportedly left a trail by using a paid account with a blockchain data provider to verify addresses during the attack.
The recorded queries reportedly matched exactly the number, order, and timing of the drained wallets. This information has reportedly been shared with the authorities.
Coldcard confirms the vulnerability and recommends immediately transferring funds to another wallet.
