I've spent a lot of time with the Mahabharata and the Gita over the years—reading, listening, internalizing it, putting it into practice, and sharing it with others.

It can look like that at first glance, but that's not really what the Bhagavad Gita is about.
There's an enormous body of commentary and discourse around it—it's far too deep to fully capture in a single post. But at a high level, this is the essence:
It's set on a battlefield within the Mahabharata—one of the greatest epics ever told, and widely considered the longest. The Gita itself is just a small portion of that larger story—18 chapters within a massive narrative.
The moment it captures is this:
A warrior, Arjuna, stands on the battlefield, about to enter a war against his own relatives, teachers, and friends. He breaks down—conflicted, uncertain, questioning whether he should act at all.
What follows is a dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna—appearing as his charioteer.
But Krishna isn't just a human advisor in this context—he is understood as the Divine manifest in human form, guiding Arjuna through that crisis.
That dialogue is about how to act when you're facing real conflict, moral tension, and uncertainty.
At the core, it's about dharma—your duty, or more precisely, right action in alignment with your nature and the reality of the moment.
Arjuna isn't being told to "praise God"—he's being shown how to see clearly and act rightly. The teaching is about:
- how to act without attachment to outcomes
- how to stay steady under pressure
- how to move forward when everything feels morally complex
From an Advaita Vedanta perspective, the "Lord" language isn't just pointing to something external.
It's both:
- the divine within (your true Self, pure consciousness)
- and the divine without (that same reality expressed as the entire universe)
That's where the idea of oneness comes in—not as a belief, but as something to be recognized.
And yes—the tradition also allows for that same reality to be approached through many forms—Krishna, Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesha, as well as the Divine Feminine in forms like Durga, Kali, and Lakshmi—not as separate competing gods, but as different expressions or doorways into the same underlying reality.
So when the text sounds "flowery" or like praise, a lot of it is actually describing that totality—the infinite showing up as both the inner Self and the outer world, in personal and impersonal forms.
And the real shift the Gita is pointing to—especially in moments of crisis, but not only then—is this:
You still act. You still fulfill your role.
But you do it from clarity instead of confusion, aligned with dharma, and without clinging to the result.
So no—it doesn't have to be read as devotional praise, though many do.
The Gita supports multiple readings—Shankara read it through Advaita (non-duality), Ramanuja through Vishishtadvaita (qualified non-duality), Madhva through Dvaita (duality). Same text, different conclusions about the nature of Self and reality.
It can be read, and in my opinion, should be read as a map for how to live—how to decide and act in alignment with one's purpose.

Cats are obligate carnivores. They require nutrients that naturally occur in animal tissue, and vegan diets carry a high risk of dangerous deficiencies and serious health problems.

Most users don’t understand how the internet works.
Any website you visit can see your IP.
People leave X or Facebook for decentralization, but that just shifts the trust model from one large company to anyone who can spin up a relay on a $5 VPS or a Raspberry Pi.

Clients connect to multiple relays and load a lot of data. Tor-by-default can significantly hurt UX. Using a VPN is much faster—especially for new users who will think the client or protocol is broken when reactions, profile pictures, images, and comments take forever to load.
Lightweight chat apps like BitChat are different, so Tor there is more forgiving.

Welcome to Nostr.
You don’t need to exit Big Tech hardware to get most of the win.
You’ve already done the hardest part — moving off most surveillance apps and reducing identity correlation. That’s where the majority of tracking happens.
Hardware matters… but isolation matters more.
An iPhone running compartmentalized identities is far better than a “sovereign” device with everything mixed together.
For most people, app/protocol layer + compartmentalization = ~80–90% of the gain.
The key is threat modeling.
Who are you defending against?
– Big Tech tracking?
– data brokers?
– casual adversaries?
– state-level actors?
– principle-based sovereignty?
The answer changes everything.
Some privacy circles assume everyone should operate at the most extreme level. But not everyone is Edward Snowden, or Snowden on the lam with government secrets. Know your threat model and act accordingly.
You may not need the same level of privacy everywhere.
Business, banking, and daily logistics often benefit from convenience and compatibility — while private communications and research may warrant stronger isolation.
That’s where compartmentalization beats absolutism.
Proton is a solid step. I like it.
Some people will criticize it — that’s normal.
Also, realistically, Proton still doesn’t fully replace Google for many business workflows yet.
That’s okay. Mix and isolate rather than forcing purity.
If you want to go further, the practical path right now is:
GrapheneOS on Pixel (with movement toward Motorola hardware)
Linux laptops (Framework, System76)
Separate devices by identity instead of chasing one perfect device
I personally use Qubes OS.
It’s not for the faint of heart — even seasoned Linux users face a steep learning curve.
But it lets you run truly isolated environments on a single machine.
Think of it like multiple devices living inside one device, where activities, identities, and networks are compartmentalized by design.
GrapheneOS is outstanding, but there are trade-offs.
Some banking apps and services increasingly rely on Google Play integrity / verification, which can limit compatibility.
That’s another reason isolation by role often works better than one “perfect” device.
It can also be a pain to migrate back if you later decide to move to an iPhone or more mainstream Android setup.
For example, stripping EXIF/location metadata from photos improves privacy.
But you lose timeline and map context.
If you later import those photos into something like Google Photos, they may appear out of order, without locations, and harder to organize.
That’s the trade-off — stronger privacy often means giving up convenience and long-term data richness.
Linux phones, in my view, are the future of mobile sovereignty.
Full OS control, open stacks, and hardware-level transparency are where things are heading.
That said, they’re still maturing today.
I wouldn’t recommend daily driving one yet unless you’re comfortable with rough edges and limitations.
There are also minimalist or “dumb phone” paths like the Punkt and others.
Another high-impact step that often matters more than hardware:
Use a password manager with unique credentials.
Use email aliases (SimpleLogin or similar).
Use virtual cards (Privacy.com or similar).
I like Proton’s password manager, but the key idea is separation.
Generate unique logins, unique email addresses, and unique payment cards.
If one service gets breached, it doesn’t expose your primary inbox or your real card details.
You’re limiting blast radius — which is core OPSEC.
This quickly becomes a rabbit hole you can go as deep as you want… the real question is how far you need to go at this moment in time and in which areas of your life.
You’ll also hear very extreme advice:
self-host everything
air-gap networks
RF shielding paint
no Wi-Fi
full isolation from modern infrastructure
You can do those things. But most people don’t need to.
Do you have a family using Wi-Fi?
Do you need banking apps?
Do you run a business?
Those are real-world trade-offs.
Mitigation often beats elimination.
Also worth remembering:
More privacy = less convenience
No tool will save bad OPSEC
Behavior and compartmentalization matter more than software choices
You can run the most privacy-focused stack and open hardware… but poor OPSEC still defeats it.
Oversharing, identity mixing, and sloppy data hygiene will undo everything.
In practice, this often looks like isolating roles across devices.
For most people, the biggest upgrade isn’t switching hardware — it’s isolating roles:
front-facing device
private device
burner / travel device
Practicing good OPSEC, isolation, and compartmentalization matter more than perfect tools.

Your smart car is tracking you—some can be shut down remotely.
Your phone leaks location signals—even when you aren't actively using it.
Bluetooth. WiFi. Cell towers. All logging your movements.
Ring cameras feed private databases you'll never audit.
You are being mapped in real time by infrastructure you never consented to.
Convenience creates trails.
OPSEC minimizes them.
Analog leaves fewer trails.
No logs.
No metadata.
No archive to crack later.
No signal to intercept.
No kill switch necessary.
Fuck digital paper trails.

They haven't implemented anything.
Right now they're watching it. There's an open issue discussing it, but no plan and no age-verification built into Qubes.
A maintainer addressed the systemd angle directly—the `birthDate` field being added upstream is optional metadata in an existing JSON userdb.
That same userdb already supports email, real name, and location fields. Qubes doesn't use any of those.
It's also a single-user-as-admin OS, which the maintainer said makes these parental-control style mechanisms not really applicable.
