Who should control the money?
The liberal state gives us a false dichotomy to organize society: something is either a sacred right of the individual or entirely controlled by the state. But the Church, in her wisdom, sketches out an alternative way to handle our affairs: subsidiarity. Broadly, subsidiarity breaks down rights and duties into the following categories:
- Individual
- Family
- Community
- State
In this context, it becomes evident that Bitcoin opposes state money management yet cannot scale to individuals either. It will be a tool to help us reorganize our society away from the poles of the spectrum towards the center of families and communities, which will be healthy for our political order overall.

I’m curious if someone has a technical answer to my questions, but of course, they are rhetorical in that I've asked them myself and don't have good answers; however, I try to stay humble and recognize I will never have all the answers, so I’m genuinely interested in if anyone else has good answers.
Using open-source software doesn't mean much unless you can verify that what you're running is the software. In this case, I don't think validating that voting machines are actually running open-source software is feasible. Therefore, voters must trust election officials; thus, whether the voting machine uses open-source software doesn't matter for election integrity because the result is the same: trust in election officials.
This is emblematic of Bitcoin's anomalous nature, which most still don't fully grasp: it’s a technical breakthrough solution that fixes a social problem. However, most technical solutions don't fix social problems; they fix technical problems, which means we need social solutions to social problems like election integrity.

Neither do I, which is why I'm skeptical of “open-source” apps and view them as a form of security theater: something that appears more secure but isn't.
The worst thing that can happen is that, in the name of open source, an app developer accidentally publishes secrets, which allows an attacker to publish a malicious version of the app that leaks every user key.
If I publish the source of my app, I will take care to ensure that the source code can't be built and released maliciously.

Unfortunately, just because a developer publishes source code for the app doesn't mean that's the source code you downloaded in the app. This is a complex problem that I’m not sure is solvable.

I agree it's not something most Bitcoiners want to discuss because it leads to questioning the “don't trust, verify” ethos. But I think taking that mantra too literally has always been problematic because most people will never verify all of the hardware, firmware, cryptography, and source code they use for Bitcoin.
But Bitcoin has always allowed something still very powerful, if not as catchy as a slogan: “Choose who you trust.”
That's what we're doing with cashu.

All layer-2 protocols (including Ark and LN with channel factories) require unilateral exit to remain 'trustless.' However, as more people use them, there are fewer opportunities to perform that exit among untrusting parties, thus bringing us back to the same problem: trust is introduced.
For example, if we use channel factories to scale so that individuals use an on-chain transaction once every 6 months on average, we can get many more people on-chain. But that means, on average, each person can't make another transaction for the next 6 months, including exiting the channel factory if a peer goes offline or maliciously force-closes, which most will find unacceptable to hold their money. So, the implication is that each person needs to trust the rest of the peers, which we can facilitate better outside of layer-2 protocols.

Yes, exactly: the train's motion is caused by the locomotive. We are the train, and God is the locomotive. There needs to be a locomotive to move the train. The train cars by themselves can't move. Yet it is an error to look at the moving train cars linked together and ask what car is causing the locomotive to move.
Similarly, we don't cause our existence. We are contingent on our parents, on the oxygen we breathe, and on the food we eat. All those things are contingent on other things. There can't be infinite contingent things because nothing would have sufficient reason to exist; therefore, nothing would exist. But we do exist, so there must be something that exists necessarily, which does not depend on anything else for its existence. That's God.
By definition, God is not contingent on people creating gods. God would still exist if there were no people because he is sheer existence itself.
I tried to adapt St. Thomas Aquinas’s third-way argument to our context. Still, these classical arguments probably have better standalone explanations elsewhere than I can summarize here if you want to understand the rationale for believing in God.
