I took a lid from jewel box that matched the oak frame dimensions to complete the casing. It's a wooden tablet! Also downgraded to #RaspberryPi Zero 2 W so plenty of room inside. Still, a full-blown #ARM64 #Linux.
It will run dashboard w/#GNU Screen or Lynx etc. to show e.g. #teletext spotprices, weather etc. or random #ANSIart.

If you plan to upgrade #Mastodon to v4.5.0 on #ARM64, there will be an instant SIGILL when running Vite. The fix is trivial once you realize it.

Puunkaato on aina jännää. Kesäasunnolla oli vanha pihlaja kallellaan tien ja sähkölinjan päälle. Virittelin kaksi köyttä vastakkaiseen suuntaan ja sitten käsisahalla sahaamaan. No ei mennyt ihan niin kuin ajattelin, vaan puu halkesi kesken sahauksen, mutta onneksi köysien ansiosta kaatui juuri oikeaan suuntaan! Nyt ei tarvitse ainakaan tämän puun takia talvella stressata.

#WillieNelson "In Concert". This is a cheapo live compilation from mid-1990s but a pretty good and entertaining one. Great stuff from ballads to bluegrass etc.

I think I'm finally able to continue my project to make a #VT102 compatible e-ink terminal, as I was able to find a copy of the original #Digital VT102 manual, documenting all those escape sequences.
Does anyone else miss the days when there were physical books you could consult while programming?

My #glibc bug report turned out to be pretty successful! Not only glibc got a fix, but also a #GCC bug fix was made; all this happened within a week.
Don't hesitate to report a bug when you see one.

This is how my #Mastodon instance is spending its day according to CPU freq stats. It's #RPi 3 so I'd say it takes 2.5W on average. I'm going to try running one week with a power meter to see how well this calculation works.

Finally got to see and hear #Imatrankoski in action. Close to a religious experience! The praise already written in #Kalevala is valid. The spectacle organized by #Imatra city had quality PAs blasting out #Sibelius from the sky. Simply amazing.

Hand-made #WW2 anti-tank obstacles in #Tohmajärvi. These are part of the #SalpaLine a.k.a. The Finland's Latch. Great inspiration for #DIY minded-people and a good show case of sisu. A specific stone material was searched to allow faster crafting & ramp-up. Keep it simple.

All my static and 100% public "read-only" web sites used to be 80/http only since only couple of years ago. The reason I gave in and also started to provide also https was:
- some browsers started to give warning about accessing http-only sites
- google search console informed that http-only sites are getting low or no priority in indexing and search results.

With that price couldn't you get branded ones from local shop? I use Samsung EVO card on my Mastodon instance (write heavy). 32 GB lasted a year with over 1TB writes.
I think little is known about SD and USB flash media. Often the cards are optimized for artificial benchmarks or certain file systems. On one board I have two indentical 512 GB Kingston media and they behave totally different! Even if the device declares to be the same, the underlaying flash/implementation can differ.

#Commodore #VIC20 "Road Race" is among top 10 video games I've ever played. Based on #Atari "Night Driver", it's way better and totally unique.
It's keyboard controlled. You have steering, ignition (!), gas, and four gears (!!). And in dashboard you have engine temp you need watch.
Sounds are pure bless. Engine revving. Braking. It's #HarshNoise!
The overall mood is like from 70s movies, "Vanishing Point", "The Driver" etc.
Difficult and addicting. I used to hate it as a kid.

I wanted to do some mainline #kernel #hacking on #THEC64 but gave up.
Serial console setup is trivial, it's documented on the PCB. SoC is sunxi A20. For U-boot prompt you need to press 's' (shell), a vendor specific hack.
U-boot lacks network and even USB support. I could still load a custom kernel over serial line. But why... It's 32-bit ARM w/256 MB RAM. If I want a proper #Linux just replace the PCB w/#RPi & reuse mechanics/USB keyboard.
Maybe I have a better motivation on some other day.

Tonight's game is Pole Position on #Atari 2600 flashback emulator.
Highly simplified compared to the arcade coin-op game, but still works surprisingly well. The automatic gas is cool!
If you ever played the original arcade as a kid, your memory/imagination will probably fix the missing gaps.

Upgraded #Linux on #Amstrad E3 from v6.6 to v6.12.4. While at it, it got also newer rootfs with more current glibc and GCC and whatever.
People ask, what can you do with only 32 MB RAM? Well, at least connecting to a telnet #BBS works fine. Unfortunately the internal modem is of no use over here but Ethernet dongle helps.

Playing "Eureka!" on #THEC64 emulator.
I was planning to try it on a real #C64, but couldn't find the floppy disk and also the composite video quality was crappy on this new 4:3 Eyoyo LCD monitor I got.

Finnish blues and #prog legends released a tribute LP for him last Friday called "Stovall, Coahoma".
Eddie Boyd lived the last decades of his life in #Kallio, #Helsinki. I went to check the plate on the building today. Sorry for poor quality photos, it's dark season and there was a lorry parked on front of the building, so you get just a street view. This is my hoods.

Today 1 year at #Mastodon since quitting Twitter.
I miss some people there, who didn't move or went elsewhere, but overall I like this scene better.
I've been #selfhosting on RPi 3 and it's been surprisingly smooth and reliable, after learning few tricks. 32 GB SD card and disk usage is static at 50% with a daily script that purges a week old content. ext4 stats say: "Lifetime writes: 1025 GB". Electricity cost maybe 10 euros a year?
Mastodon SW upgrades are PITA as it's all manual work.
