well it's iron heart so not american but 100% cotton and follows same ethos of heavier fabrics. idk much about this fabric (aside from it being cotton) but i included some pictures. it's airy, in that you can see through it pretty easily with moderate lighting, but it's still somehow very warm. linen blend would probably help.

I had some leftover inventory after doing the holiday baskets, so I made a new storefront to sell it all.

The new @nprofile…x9tk storefront will make ordering the best stuff made by bitcoiners for bitcoin stupid easy.
Not almost as good as legacy solutions.
Straight up better.
More private since data will be stored locally. Less to remember since there are no accounts. More convenient since you don't have to enter credit card info or billing address -- just scan a QR code to pay with Lightning. No mobile app to get past gatekeepers -- it's a PWA you save to your device directly.

It appears a new approach for the web version of Google Maps is being tested for users not signed in:
- no reviews show, only aggregate star rating
- only business hours for the current day show
- can't browse list of search results; when you click a result, the results list disappears
This means the biggest store of critical, up-to-date information about local businesses around the globe is being closed off into an opaque black box.

I looked into Upscrolled a bit more. One of its major advantages over Nostr is that its onboarding process...it's simple. It's familiar. Download the app, sign up for an account, and off you go.
No one is going to take the time to understand WTF a cryptographic keypair is, much less invest the care to responsibly handle opsec for that keypair. It's alien tech to them...they don't understand it, and more importantly, they don't understand why it even matters. Why deal with this weird keypair thing when everything else in my life uses a username and password?
Nostr client apps need to offer a way to log in with conventional email/password with the npub/nsec abstracted away in the background. Of course, the keypair should be available for the user to grab in the settings whenever they want if/when their understanding matures and they want to move to another client app.
This might seem like blasphemy to us. I know most Nostr developers would probably flinch at the prospect of having a database of email addresses mapped to npubs, and perhaps even worse, at having a database of nsecs (lol). But it's necessary for us (as those looking to grow this network, aka #grownostr) to realize this is critical if Nostr will have any shot at taking advantage of growth waves and going mainstream. No amount of marketing or influencers or incentives will change this.
Those of us who've been in the Bitcoin world for a while know by now that the chances of getting a normie to take custody of their funds with seed words and an advanced wallet are slim-to-none. A graduated approach starting with something simpler is much more realistic.
Then why are we assuming these same people will use any app that requires the same kind of nerdy mindset for Nostr? It's not realistic. This is partly why PGP failed. We need easier options to start people off upfront, and then provide a gently path toward cypherpunk enlightenment and advancement.
They won't all make it, but at least more will try.

100% agree, even though i'm mainly a developer/designer, this is now my #1 priority. what's the point of developing more and more stuff if there isn't a sufficiently big and active community to use it? like you alluded to.
i don't think there's 1 sure-fire way to make this work. i do think some of the methods you outlined might help. i'd be curious to know exactly what upscrolled and farcaster and some of the other guys did to get traction.
for my part, i'm experimenting with commerce. dissident soaps, black rifle coffee company, etc seem like companies that are already pretty closely aligned to the bitcoin/nostr mindset, which is the hard part. what if we set up a retailer that sold some of their wares? moving units might get them to pay attention, join nostr, and become active. and perhaps being their customers along with them (over time). this is what i have in mind with my reboot of @npub1ckw…kn0w.
my other follow-on initiative to that is to create a lifestyle brand to promote open-source software. make foss look cool, not nerdy. another big problem we have is that these tools we like are nerdy and fiddly, and that's something most people don't want to deal with. getting rid of that image, and emphasizing the driving purpose of FREEDOM in all of foss is paramount imo. freedom is cool af. it needs to be branded that way, particularly with respect to software.

what surprises me most is that most people don't seem to care...for example, i haven't seen a single cybertruck review mention it. rivian offers much better-designed interiors, but people only mention it as a minor benefit (if they mention it at all). i don't get it. i think people are being duped yet again, just like silicon valley duped them years ago with free software (in exchange for their privacy and sanity) and are only just now realizing it when it's too late.

I've been an EV critic for a long time. They still have their issues, and you will never stop me from having at least one gas/diesel car for enjoyment (and emergency). But after a few months of living with a couple different models, I can see the appeal for some specific scenarios.
But there's something else that bothers me about Tesla specifically, aside from the relentless vertical integration with parts, service, and maintainability (which is not specific to Tesla, EVs, or even the car industry since enshittification is happening everywhere these days).
Why are Teslas so plain, sterile, bland, and soulless? The Cybertruck dials this up to 11 with its cold, post-apocalyptic, brutalist appearance.
Why? There is no technological reason for this. It's a philosophical choice that says a lot about the company's vision of the future.
Where's the beauty? Where's the sophistication? Where's the color? Where are the natural materials? Where's the real wood, quilted leather, amazing seats, buttons, dials, browns, greens, and other sophistications that make a car a gorgeous, inviting place to be? It's not that Tesla executed this badly...they didn't even try. All their cars are like this, whether you buy a base-level Model 3 for $40k or a top-spec Cyberbeast for $120k.
Profit maximization is not a good enough explanation for this. It was a conscious and intentional choice the company made, and they market it as "futuristic". If this is the "future" that Tesla envisions (and designs for) then clearly it's a dystopian future where humans aren't welcome...where human senses are unimportant and irrelevant, where beautiful comfort is traded for cold utility, and where humanity is subservient to technology. It's a dark and depressing worldview. And one I will have no part in.
I'm an optimist. My personal opinion is that WAGMI, and I will always be on Team Human.
Anyone that isn't can swiftly GTFO.

Is there some easy way to make a Nostr post but not broadcast it until later? I need to save the event hex and do some processing before the post is broadcasted. Amethyst only shows me naddr which won't work. Gossip has an option to "Show raw preview" but it's always greyed out.
Do any clients do this? Would prefer to have a GUI.
