I also generally need to work out whether there are going to be issues with how signalling is sent in this situation (I.e. will stealing be done correctly, is code already in place to manage when it should be done - is the downlink channel traffic or assigned control right now, etc). This is so bloody complicated, I’m not surprised it has taken so long for a functional open source TETRA stack to be born really.

Groups are tricky too. When a group call starts, basically a PDU with associated channel allocation is sent down addressed by that group to go listen to the traffic channel for the call. But then we may have individually addressed signalling to specific members of that group during the call. So this will bump into the MM (Mobility Management) entity (which knows which radios are attached to which GSSIs) as well.

It’s actually easy to know when a radio is sent off to an assigned channel, that’s no problem. Tracking when they come back is difficult because that’s down to a lot of MS-side logic (timers, counters etc). In many situations they can just return to the MCCH silently and we have to deal with that. There will be a lot of “fuzzy” states I think where we have to send a copy of signalling down on the last-known channel but also on the MCCH as a backup. Maybe repeated LLC delivery failures could also trigger a “cache invalidation” too, prompting us to assume an MS returned to the MCCH. Hmmm…

@nprofile…evys bit of advice (you might already have this in mind) if this is your first USB-powered board, sometimes worth making up a "USB-C to bare ends" cable so you can power up the board with a bench supply set to a low current limit for the first time. Rather than connect it to a PC and risk damaging the PC if there's a short, or just blasting the arse out of an incorrectly-placed component.

@nprofile…z9l8 our usage is always zero in the "typical" period they have the saving session, so we can't really reduce from that (we've already moved all our usage away from peak times, which is great!).
I could probably just unsubscribe from the emails at this point but it's interesting to see when they pop up anyway.

Motorola’s radios seem remarkably consistent across a wide range of generations. I wonder if they are the same core stack underneath despite obvious revamps/architecture changes. I can’t imagine it’s particularly… economical to reimplement. I also can’t imagine there are too many people left working there who were there the first time around…

In my initial testing (with MTP3250 and MXP600), I can’t seem to get it to work if I only grant one subslot, despite that being enough for a MAC-DATA containing a BL-ACK on SCH/HU. The radio always does random access. A full slot works fine. Mmm. Investigation needed.

Explanation: when the BS sends down a PDU to an MS that invites some sort of immediate response, automatically grant a slot along with that PDU’s downlink resource so the MS has an immediate uncontended opportunity to send that response. Typically this is to support the LLC’s basic link acknowledgments (a bit like TCP ACKs) but also helps in some other situations where there is a quick BS-initiated exchange of PDUs. Without this mechanism, MSs would have to go through the random access procedure every time.

I’ve worked on systems for aeration of fishing lakes, and those need substantial rating blowers to make any serious impact so I doubt it’s that… much too small. Same goes for any sort of pumping system.

Anyone any thoughts on what this might be? Installed at a local reservoir. There’s a solar panel on top which would suggest it’s not mains connected. Seemed to have either some pipes or cables under the trunking.

Want to add a sort of "fast running" mode without the slot visualisation that allows live tweaking of the parameters and maintaining a rolling average of the statistics so you can really visualise what the different "knobs" do.

With FM, receivers tend to receive the strongest signal quite well regardless of the presence of other carriers. I think that’s right? @nprofile…mep2 oh… properly shit. That’s abysmal… I didn’t know GivEnergy had gone. Octopus were pushing them really hard when I was browsing around.
Interestingly our “provider” (the national company that hooked us up with our installer, basically) has gone bust (literally 2 months after our install… thank fuck… a bunch of people got left with no install after paying a deposit, scaffolding up but no work done, etc). No real fall-out for us as the warranties are with Fox ESS and Aiko Solar. One annoyance is they never registered the HIES insurance for the installation itself before going bust and we can’t do that retroactively.
