agreed! it took myself and team a couple of weeks to write security report and get approved by overlords. we run our own chatmail relay. next steps is to migrate to the mesh system so its fully closed-loop. hopefully will have it wired up this weekend as poc in my lab. have to think through the http-01 challenge still but cofe

i really think it does. if you would ask me the same question decades ago i may have different answer. but now well past 50yrs i've learned to reflect more and focus on what matters. appreciating simpler things and people who add vs subtract from my world.
i think we all have a choice. we can age and become bitter or we can observe and grow. i chose the latter, which i think you may have too. either way it's confirmed that we're both smiling a lot which is amazing :-)

look at it this way. your heart being a muscle only has so many contractions (similar to an engine giving out before it needs a rebuild). if you take stimulants, you accelerate the beat-counter. you don't have infinite beats.
if you're young (i don't like to guess), you may not worry about it now. but try doubling your age and see how it goes. sometimes better to establish good habits early.

confuses me sometimes when people go to great lengths to not purchase a phone with a credit-card. instead opting for cash, wearing a disguise, driving 50mi away from home so their opsec is maintained, activating it in the parking lot, no sim. great now you take it home and put it on your home wireless network and login to all your services that already know who you are.
i mean if you want to have a little distance, go pay cash in person. don't make a big thing of it. you're going to slip up trying to larp as snowden.
if you're still worried about things, ask a friend or random person off the street to put it on their credit card and hand them cash + tip. that's what i did long ago. i'm not driving 50mi to larp when i can do it from bed hah

in the 90s i was hosting out of an apartment, and it felt like my command center. there was not much maintenance (we had less internet/protocols) and it was fun.
now it's like if you host a system at home or anywhere really there's so much stuff to think about it that it's exhausting. likely why most self-hosters tip-over in 12-24mo of operating their systems.
that's one reason i keep on bsd for now with basic stuff. i don't mess with it, the system tells me when it's down, i can move onto other interesting things in my life besides constantly patching and monitoring with stress

i rely on others infra too. but its more so launch a vps and backhaul traffic to my old thinkcentre. well and dns i use desec. i think the types that go 100% in on their infra maybe sometimes don't understand how hard it can be to manage. most end up leaning on external services eventually. paranoia only takes you so far
