Last Notes npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I think it might possibly be time for me to dig out my old Ibanez and audio interface, buy some new cobalt strings and start writing some post-rock. Last time I wrote music was almost a decade ago and I have a lot of pain and thoughts I really need to offload somehow. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea WORD5 #705 3/6 ⬛🟧🟪⬛⬛ ⬛🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟪🟪🟪🟪🟪 https://otherstuff.ai/word5/ npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I had somehow forgotten this guy exists. There's such a robust culture behind the Japanese tea ceremony, and quality matcha doesn't need ANY additives to be thoroughly enjoyable. 🍵 #tea #teastr #Japan #matcha npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea This is why, despite my interest in smart home as a technology, I have a very cautious implementation process and I basically only do DIY stuff that I know I can use with open source tools and control how it's implemented. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea There is. Bovine prion diseases are the primary threat. This is precisely the main issue I see with the beef importing we're doing right now. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I really don't have a clue how people can drink, let alone ENJOY skim milk. I'm not the "government conspiracy regarding raw milk" sorts but skim milk has to be a psyop. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea It's extremely heavy, computationally-speaking. That's why these services charge so much for high-end generation, especially images and video. For me personally, I prefer to just use it for its text-based output. I like to use it for troubleshooting, research, reframing questions that I have in my mind. All stuff I can get away with on a free plan. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I'd say it is. I wouldn't pay full price for it right now because of the price hike, but if you can get it for a decent rate, it's definitely worth grabbing unless you're planning on playing the most recent AAA games on the go. But if you want a very solid Linux gaming PC to take with you, it's a great choice. Plus, the OLED screen is gorgeous, the entire thing is designed to be user repairable (unlike ASUS and modern Lenovo) and the ergonomics are still unbeaten. #nevent1q…fh02 npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea Maybe I missed something, but where did you get the idea that they can access your chat history? As far as I'm aware, everything's end-to-end encrypted, and unless you have the paid plan, it's not even saved on your device past seven days. I've been using the free plan for the past couple months now and it has been a very solid option. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I don't think I've EVER been more annoyed than I was watching this and hearing that idiotic family ranting about the cops and yelling at their kid. Is there a way to turn this off? It clutters the page a lot. #asknostr #ditto npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea It's excellent, makes an already appealing UI even better! npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I decided to check out some other Nostr web clients. Up until now, I had used Primal, NoStrudel and Coracle. Primal was generally my go-to due to its easy-to-read UI and its "enhanced privacy" feature since I don't always use a VPN. However, since I decided to upgrade to Proton Unlimited, I'll be using my VPN a lot more, so I figured it doesn't hurt to check out some others. So far, my favorite, by far, would be Ditto. The UI and feature set is incredible. It feels, in a lot of ways, like Amethyst in web form, which is massive because I absolutely love Amethyst on my phone. Definitely looking forward to exploring Ditto some more and maybe check out a few other web clients! npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I'd need hardware and storage to run that on. Currently, my home lab is pretty much all used up for other purposes. Proton Unlimited includes 500 gigs of cloud storage, may as well use it for something. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea Not on Arch-based systems, evidently. The VPN lacks any split tunneling option (at least in the GUI), though it does have moderate NAT and port forwarding. And as for Drive, the only option I'm able to find is a package on the AUR and I'm taking it easy on AUR stuff right now until they fully sort out their recent malware issues. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I do! I'm not sure which clients support payment targets but I have a Monero address and a Bitcoin Silent Payments address in the payment targets on Amethyst. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea Proton really needs to hurry up and get some sort of desktop application for Proton Drive on Linux. I need syncing, not just manual backups, but they're dragging their feet on the Linux application. This, and the Linux GUI for Proton VPN is also lacking a couple features, such as split tunneling... npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea Side note, I could've sworn I was already following you but apparently not. "In my experience, there's no such thing as luck." npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea That's why I try to get more people involved even if they've never been into Bitcoin. We desperately need more content variety. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea Uhh dude, I think you accidentally hit the post button on this one 😬😂 npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I never grow tired of Maria Coman's voice. You've heard people describe someone as having an "angelic voice" but hers is pretty much the DEFINITIVE example of that. ☦️ https://youtu.be/j87SG4TMlOk npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea Swedish meatballs is an incredibly underrated dish 🤔 #foodstr npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I'm going on two months of using Proton's Lumo as my primary AI and honestly, I'm not looking back. Before this, Perplexity was my main AI because I found its answers to be particularly helpful on technical subjects. It sources things very well and tends to have the best overall answers with technical topics. However, it's a Big Tech AI service: it's inherently horrible for privacy. While my Perplexity account is pseudonymous (email alias, no connections to me, personally) and I only ever use it for things like tech troubleshooting and research, it's still not good for privacy. Before I decided to give Lumo a proper try, I had been using Venice AI. It's a privacy-respecting AI service with end-to-end encryption options and uncensored model options. At its core, it's a very solid service itself, but the main problem with it is that it has severe restrictions on free users: only ten text queries allowed per day. That's an absurdly low cap. Worse still, their lowest plan is $18/month. I use AI a fair amount but not enough to justify an $18/month subscription plan. When Lumo was first launched, I found it to be pretty useless. It hallucinated constantly, the UI/UX was barebones, it just wasn't a great experience. However, when Lumo 2.0 dropped, things changed. Now, it feels nearly on par with Perplexity in terms of information and sourcing, and the UI/UX is actually excellent now. I find it to be very rare that I ever have to use a different AI, even with their free plan restrictions, and I'm even to the point where I'm considering subscribing precisely because I don't feel like I'm exploited as a free user. Their subscription is ~$10/month, by the way: significantly cheaper than just about every other AI option out there, as even the cheapest alternatives are still heavily restricted. The fact that an end-to-end encrypted, privacy-respecting option is now truly competitive is amazing news because I love the benefits of AI, I'm just not keen on the ways it can be used against us. #ai #proton #protonlumo #perplexity #encryption npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea It's not just Boomers, it's a lot of Gen X'ers too. If anything, I'd argue Gen X is even worse in some regards, being the generation that genuinely thinks it's flawless, that its childhood was perfect, and that every other generation is bad except itself. People love to rip on Millennials and Zoomers, and both generations have their issues (and I like to clown on Zoomers quite a bit myself), but I'll take both generations over Boomers and X'ers any day of the week. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea Well, that's annoying. My recent post about the drama surrounding NetworkChuck was hidden from me because I filtered out a few words in the post (such as furries and femboys, two movements I take major moral issues with), which is why I posted twice. It'd be nice if word filters didn't hide our own posts like that. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea (X drama, but relevant outside of X) I typically avoid posting drama on politically-related content on my main feed because I don't want to be obnoxious about it, but I can't stay silent any longer. These people are DESPICABLE. https://x.com/Cthulhu_Answers/status/2093711658636206274 Chuck's only crime was covering a Linux distro leftists dislike. That's it. Instead of ignoring it, they bullied him, dug into his past, harassed him (and seemingly threatened him). He does the Christian thing and addresses the issues between him and these folks. What do they do in response? Leak the private conversation and bully him further. Why? Because he didn't "apologize" (again, he did no wrong) and because he didn't recant his Christian views on marriage and things like gay marriage. Heck, he even specified that his views on these issues have morphed a bit, and that his focus now is only on loving other people as Christ loves them. But again, because he didn't apologize and recant his views entirely, these psychos are still attacking him. These people are insufferable, despicable, evil individuals. Chuck does nothing but help other people and present good vibes, but because he covered a Linux distribution by a guy who has some right-wing views, and because Chuck himself is a Christian, they go after him. I used to be against the whole "anti-woke Linux" concept because Linux is open source and meant for everyone, but actions like this are precisely why we need distros like Omarchy in the first place. The infosec and open source communities have been completely overrun with militant leftists, femboys, furries, etc. who refuse to accept anyone with even slightly less left-leaning opinions and more than that, they will bully you, dox you, and even threaten you. Heaven forbid you be Christian and have even slightly conservative views in either space! Because they'll make sure you know how unwelcome you are. We can't coexist with people like this. I refuse to, especially after what they've been doing to Chuck. Again, this is why we desperately need projects like Omarchy which fly straight in the face of these freaks. If you're a Christian or conservative in the FOSS/infosec spaces, you need to start becoming more vocal against them and create spaces for "us" instead. #foss #linux #opensource #omarchy #infosec #cybersecurity npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea WORD5 #696 6/6 ⬛⬛🟧🟪⬛ 🟧⬛⬛🟪⬛ ⬛⬛⬛🟪🟧 ⬛🟪⬛🟪🟪 ⬛🟪⬛🟪🟪 🟪🟪🟪🟪🟪 https://otherstuff.ai/word5/ npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea What I hate the most about this line of thinking is that it wrecks what is otherwise an awesome piece of tech. NFTs, in theory, can be used for some really awesome things but because of the "buy a JPG" crowd, that's all people think when they hear the term. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea Oh ordlay, it is gay, oye, essings blay, ahhmenaaay. Part of that is done by occupying the government and reigning responsibly in Christ's Name. At the same time, there are ways that can certainly go wrong (and can easily be used against us if the wrong people get into power) so we have to be careful with it. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I really hate how Youtube defaults captions to be on now. For people who don't stay signed in unless I need to do something specific, that gets really annoying. I see it as further evidence of this ADHD society needing to have captions to actually comprehend what a video is saying. We already had data that suggests that the majority of people keep captions on while streaming, which is sad enough in my eyes. To be clear, I don't have a problem with people enabling captions if their hearing is impaired; obviously, that's the whole point of the captions. However, if you don't have hearing issues and the video is in your native language, WHY do you keep the captions enabled? npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea One way or another, this pricing crisis was going to end. It was just a matter of when, not if. China building fabs to manufacture more is actually a positive thing because the existing RAM manufacturers are, for all intents and purposes, a cartel. The best thing to do to fight that cartel is to get more competition into the market, which is why China doing that would be a really good thing in the long run. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I believe it! But it would be even more believable if the lines weren't so steady in their decline, because the cognition of society seemed to take a major dip around 2016 or so and plummeted in 2020 lol npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I'm thoroughly convinced that the collective IQ of most of modern civilization is dangerously low. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I know the OSI Model offers more complexity with classifications and such, but I massively prefer the TCP/IP Model because it's simpler to recall in your memory. #networking npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea As a huge fan of skeuomorphism, Aero Glass and the Y2K/Frutiger Aero aesthetics, I absolutely love seeing those coming back. I'm seeing it returning to tech aesthetics, I'm seeing it in some commercial artwork. More blur, more glossy designs, an increase in color and prismatic color schemes, with diminishing minimalistic flat design garbage. I hope the trend continues. Even so, if I could give one bit of advice to designers who haven't caught on to the shift or still use the flat design crap... https://blossom.primal.net/efc5acd3cf8005728013cd7384318739075d373c450a457abc6fe6ba4a523fc0.gif npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea Kali Linux's documentation is absolutely excellent. The app sucks, the audio quality is sub-par, why would I ever pay for a subscription to it? 🤦♂️ VLC with local storage, Bandcamp with some downloads, and RiPlay for remaining streaming needs. Those three are all I need. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea The dealbreaker for me is, indeed, the surveillance and social credit system. Not saying we all have it right but a colleague of mine in the security and privacy research space used to live there and had an incident where he was imprisoned without cause because the government claimed he was under suspicion of being a spy. No evidence, they just didn't like that he is Christian and uses security tech. Two sides to every story, I'm sure, but I do know I would never be able to accept the surveillance and social credit system. It's why I'm so vehemently opposed to digital ID, REAL ID, "age verification" systems, KYC laws and Big Data. Still, I'd love to visit China sometime, as someone who loves their tea culture and appreciates their history and mythology. I just couldn't live there unless the regime changes. npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I might have to accelerate my plans to buy a bit. Taking time to place the seed and crack it with your teeth gets your mind off of stress. Unless you have a trash can nearby, you have to be careful to collect the shells to throw away later, forcing you to be mentally present. The seeds are rich in potassium, magnesium and vitamin E, nutrients many people are deficient of. They also have a passing amount of protein and fiber, which always help. Instead of consuming junk food, sugar and carbs, you're snacking on quality nutrients. They tend to come in all sorts of flavor varieties, and while unsalted are the best health-wise, the flavors can be amazing. My favorites would be the Taco Bell-inspired flavors from Big's. In general, I think people underestimate how good these things are for you as a healthy snack, a small mental health boost, and a nutrient augmentation. Similarly, pumpkin seeds are also great for you, especially the ones in the shell. They're a bit simpler since you can eat the shell, whereas sunflower seed shells aren't digestible, but it all depends on if you want that mental break or not. https://blossom.primal.net/0161dabdf49f28789baedf559119d40d62f7641b2612c42e9bcf062c92c599f8.jpg npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I just narrowly avoided a disaster. I'm not sure how but apparently, when I was trying to do a backup with one of my redundant drives (which I hadn't run a backup with since late last year), all of my Obsidian vaults got rolled back to their state in late 2025. I use Obsidian as my primary notes and documentation hub for EVERYTHING, including professional matters. Had I lost this entire year's worth of notes and documentation, it would've been disastrous for me. Sure, I had other backup drives but for those vaults, I had started relying more on cloud syncing due to the fact that I need them on multiple devices. That means that the other backup drives might have had slightly more updated backups of the vaults, but not nearly as recent as I would've needed. That was a mistake on my part, but it also saved me. I was able to revert to a new version of the vaults, one as recently updated as yesterday. Everything is back to normal. I really need a better backup solution than just manually backing up files on external hard drives. I wish I had the money to set up a NAS solution, but I simply don't. This is all I've got for now. Nonetheless, I'm absolutely going to have to figure out something like that, and have cold storage redundancy, because had I not had this option to revert to the updated versions of these vaults, it would've destroyed so much progress I've made in my career, my home lab and life in general. #homelab #tech #techstr #disaster #backups npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea WORD5 #683 6/6 ⬛🟪⬛🟧⬛ 🟧🟪🟪⬛⬛ ⬛🟪🟪🟧⬛ ⬛🟪🟪⬛🟪 ⬛🟪🟪🟧🟪 🟪🟪🟪🟪🟪 https://otherstuff.ai/word5/ npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea Absolutely outstanding! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_K0OcfCxg4 #music #Christian #metal #worship npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea WORD5 #682 6/6 🟧⬛⬛⬛⬛ ⬛🟪⬛🟪⬛ ⬛🟪⬛🟪⬛ ⬛🟪⬛🟪⬛ ⬛🟪🟧🟪⬛ 🟪🟪🟪🟪🟪 https://otherstuff.ai/word5/ npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea I could say it about a million times, but Strawberry Music Player is THE greatest piece of music-related software I've ever used in my life. With the AI boom, we've seen the massive price hikes of RAM and storage costs, with some estimating that CPUs will be next. If we had these manufacturers looking to develop extremely advanced NPUs instead, not only would that make it potentially easier to have fully onboard AI even for basic LLM tasks, but it would also be a way to help avoid the potential supply shortage of CPUs if that, indeed, ends up being the next component that gets hit. 🤔 npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea WORD5 #681 5/6 🟧🟧⬛⬛⬛ ⬛🟧🟧⬛⬛ ⬛🟧⬛🟧⬛ ⬛⬛🟧⬛🟪 🟪🟪🟪🟪🟪 https://otherstuff.ai/word5/ npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea Not much is more enjoyable than getting a recent CD order in the mail and discovering that it was a deluxe edition with a second CD of remixes, when you were only expecting the standard edition! npub14zwvjvf0ztfp8hlwzv2hqtpjhaugwrgecrvlwrggq2vj8kdd36tscjmw42 aptea Yeah, it's certainly unfortunate. I forgot how much I enjoy this flavor! It's like coffee and chocolate in terms of flavor profiles, but much more subtle and layered. Most people think of sencha when they think of Japanese tea, and that's understandable: standard, steamed green teas really are the supermajority of Japanese teas, but hojicha is very common in Japan during the autumn weather. You're going to hate this analogy, but oh well. I might store the bulk of my wealth in gold, for example, with a tier of silver for easy exchange, and fiat paper money for day-to-day transactions since most businesses don't accept direct payments in gold or silver. In the case of the coins, I might store wealth in Bitcoin, or I might use a balance of Bitcoin with Monero. If a vendor accepts Monero, I'd use it to pay. If they only accept Bitcoin, I'd use it instead. Further, I could potentially even swap some of that into a budgeted fund of Litecoin or BCH for quicker transactions (similar to the silver/paper money use cases in the analogy). Of course, there are services out there such as Cake Pay in Cake Wallet that make it possible to use BTC/XMR to buy digital gift cards to buy from businesses that don't accept any coins. As I said: I use whatever tool is best for the job and best suits my current use case. "No second best", whether or not it's factually true (I don't believe it is), is a mindset that's both limiting and naive.
