Yes, but there are two things that are needed for a dominant currency. Stability in purchasong power the speed of transaction for a business use case.
Unless you're in a fully circular economy with lightning (even with its issues), the general sentiment is that Bitcoin is too volatile. 🤷‍♂️
A very close 2nd barrier to entry is, "how do I spend it?".
We need seamless on/off ramps. We don't really have that yet. Strike is the closest thing that I've seen.

Unless people actually use it as money, it will never replace the dollar as the reserve currency.
Stablecoin is filling the void that should've been lightning.
Saylor convinced the world that it should be stored like gold and borrowed against. It's a fiat minded play. He evidently sees it as just another asset, similar to owning all of the world's oil. Not as a financial system unto itself.
He wants to borrow against it, but that system kills the ethos of Bitcoin. Without the ethos, it's just new tech. If it's just new tech, then it's natural to upgrade and transform.
But that's a 180 from the white paper, which is a peer to peer, permissionless payment system.
If you're not using it as money, then distribution becomes a problem. People can't spend Bitcoin they don't have and they become reliant on gatekeepers to hop rails between fiat and Bitcoin.
With that worldview, fiat remains king and bitcoin/lightning are just visa/mastercard. That's not very innovative at all.
If Bitcoin is the answer to the problem that is fiat,, then it needs to be used as money. Not horded waiting for the number go up.
If bitcoiners are leaving Sodom and Gamorrah, then we need to leave fiat behind and not look back like Lot's wife.

NATO encroachment. NATO was founded with the promise that it wouldn't expand... Expand they did. Then they placed missile systems, in the name of safety, in every new member territory. All aimed at Russia.
Russia has had a long held red line and have been very vocal about it. Ukraine joing NATO was the red line.
Then the US staged a political coup in ukriane back in 2014. Regime change... But once ukriane was set to join Nato, that crossed Russia's long established red line, so they reacted.
As awful as the war has been, Russia has actually shown great restraint. But all European nations and the US continue to flood the Ukraine with weapons. It's like the Weekend at Bernie's out there. Ukraine is being propped up to continue the fighting. It's really not on Russia. They've been consistent for 30 years on the issue.

But we don't need to analyze every use case to determine spam. It's a p2p permissionless electronic cash system.
Anything that's not a payment, is spam. There are other networks for whatever else you're trying to build.
We play basketball here... Just because there's goal, a ball and a net, doesn't mean that soccer is wanted. The only thing we can do to defend the network is to define the shape of the goal. Will it stop all spam, no. But locks on doors don't stop all break-ins. Even if the results of the locks aren't absolute, it's a tough sell if you're position is we shouldn't have locks or define the shape of the goal as a hoop.
Again, what I'm trying to understand are the technical reasons against bip-110. I'm not sold on it as a wise step but other than the nonsensical tribal arguments you just posed, I haven't heard anything... But I'm open and searching for a valid argument to dismiss.

On the matter of free, I connected with the desktop manager from a local hospital and was able to get some outmoded Lenovo ThinkCenters.

Probably true, but it does limit the attack surface to use amber. From the end user's perspective, I would prefer to only expose my nsec to amber instead of the number of clients I'm using.
I, for one, would love to see Wisp support amber again.
One of the huge promises of nostr in general is that you keep your following (and follows) with you regardless of client. I can understand why some would treat their nsec as a throwaway, but I don't think "influencers" would think of it that way. I think they would want it as secure as possible. Especially when there's no central authority to assist when you get hacked.

For what it's worth, I have mine set up through systemd. Electrs is set to start after the bitcoind service.
I would definitely wait until after the IBD, but after that, they run together and are pretty easy on resources. Relative to hardware, of course.
In your case, you could set up cron job to kick off both services and shutdown gracefully. I try to let systemd do the heavy lifting. You get clean logging with journalctl that way also.

We didn't solve the UX of lightning. And even if we did, there's the limited distribution of Bitcoin. Not enough people own bitcoin to use it meaningfully.
The other big one is stability. The value of Bitcoin is that it exists outside the fiat networks. No one can stop when, where or with who you transact... But for most of the everyday transactions, Bitcoin is still to volatile for everyday use.
It's still too technical to use. Aqua wallet goes a long way to solve these issues holistically, IMO. But it's not trustless...

Being holy week, I've been back in the scriptures a lot. Can't help but feel a special connection this week.
I was meditating on what the experience must've felt like to see the Messiah entering Jerusalem and fulfilling prophecy. All of the injustice and oppression. The hardness of life. All of the prayers for relief and praying for that day... and then finally be standing there when it happened. If the argument is that spammers are adversarial and their activities damage the network with fragmented utxo's, then why would we suspect they would just use op-return? If they're adversarial and looking to damage the network, then leaving a door open for them doesn't mean they'll stop breaking windows.
And second thing I'm not clear on, one of the major arguments I heard is that this is a policy change and not a consensus change. That's true, but in the same sentence, it's often said that nodes are irrelevant unless they're "economic" nodes.
If nodes are irrelevant and only economic nodes matter, then why remove a policy that is configurable to the user anyway? Economic nodes can just change their own policies to allow the bloated op-return and never look back.
From that perspective it seems that the move is a "soft" consensus change. Removing user configuration options forces a change of network behavior without changing consensus.
