Since RHEL requires an account to get updates and that is a paid account, it is proprietary. Therefore, RHEL may have to either comply or defy, and thus the birthdate field is likely to stay in systemd, with all that implies for future trust in systemd itself. If SteamOS is proprietary, RHEL may also be depending on how exactly the law is worded.
It is another fingerprintable variable BTW. Since many are setting this to the 1/1/1970 epoch beginning, this should be the most common and least fingerprintable value. It's what Ageless Linux uses for instance.

Devices not used directly for communication should be isolated from the network and once running a known usable snapshot of their firmware should never be updated again. This includes printers, cameras, cars, basically all consumer hardware except desktop and laptop computers, phones, and internet radio and TV boxes. The latter two also need to have the ability to run in radio mode only with no outbound anything but light and sound, and no updates unless new capabiity is needed.
Devices that are networked and must be kept up with security updates should only run open source operating systems that have the potential for audit by mutually opposing parties.

Third No Kings March Draws Millions In Protest Of Authoritarian President
DC report from DC media Group (note this was one of a huge number of protests nationally):
Washington DC—Thousands of citizens from across the DC-Maryland-Virginia region rallied at Memorial Circle near Arlington National Cemetery, for the third No Kings protest (NK3), the site where Trump plans to build the world’s largest arch, in honor of himself. They performed a skit with paper-mâché caricatures lampooning Trump and six of his most notorious staff and cabinet members. They spent weeks building the caricatures which included Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Attorney General Pat Bondi, White House Chief Advisor Steve Miller, FBI Director Kash Patel,White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, and Vice President JD Vance.
The skit called out each cabinet member for their most egregious actions over the past year. Several of the organizers spoke about how the power of people was the strongest column and still standing up to authoritarianism.
Then they walked across Memorial Bridge into DC in a challenge to the rising autocratic rule of President Trump, his cabinet, and corrupt influencer billionaires. The NK3 march carried giant banners heralding their approach, “No Kings,” “Join Us,” and “Arrest Them,” referring to those protected by a cover up of the Epstein files.
Just behind the banners came the seven cartoonish paper-mâché heads, posted high on wooden stakes: one of Trump, and six of his most discredited appointees and cabinet members. The life-like heads bobbed like drifters among the sea of protesters carrying them across Memorial Bridge.

Key to that victory seems to have been on Jan 14, when ICE shot and wounded someone and a neighborhood uprising followed. Threats of more shooting were met with threats to return fire-and from a far greater number of combatants. As less lethal projectiles rained down on ICE, they ran for it, knowing better than to get into a firefight with an entire neighborhood by escalating. The capper was fighters capturing their abandoned cars, seizing weapons and a treasure trove of Intel.
Since then, ICE deportations from Minneapolis have plunged as they have backed out of fight after fight, knowing every confrontation they start could now have guns in it on both sides.
It's nowhere near over, but the people are winning and Trump is losing. It's interesting that he went to war in Iran so soon after getting his ass kicked in Minneapolis BTW.

@nprofile…qce7 Beyond the fact that slave labor for ANY task is never OK, conscription is a great way to fill up an army with people who'd rather be ANYWHERE else. This has negative military implications
I would not want to be flying an attack drone with an explosive payload over my own people and wondering if the person who put it together was thinking about what they'd rather be doing while supposedly getting the computer/gyro board in it precisely level.
Instead, I would advise that training be voluntary, open to all, and people encouraged but not forced to get trained up in advance so as to be ready to defend their own turf if Putin invades. Dump things like shaving everyone's head that can cause people to refuse when they'd otherwise be available.
Do not discriminate against LGBTQ folks-we have proven throughout history that we can fight as well as anyone. Do not discriminate on the basis of gender, doing so can cut your strength in half.
If there is enough fear of invasion for people to tolerate conscription, there SHOULD be enough fear of invasion for people to prepare without being threatened with prison. Then again, seeing how many people here did not prepare for Trump...

A thought on Iran:
If Trump goes in on the ground and it bogs down, one thing that will go very badly for him is any attempt to bring back the draft to raise troops.
With his Chickenhawk First Class with Oak Leaf Cluster, with his "bone spurs," can you imagine Trump trying to draft others when he refused to serve himself in the Vietnam War which he supported?
I could see the draft being hooted down given Trump's "service record"

What did Iran do? They launched the missile at night. They drew the short end of the stick, the missile missed the Mossad, and yes the school was hit. Due to the timing of the strike however, nobody was inside the school, so only a building was lost.
Obviously Trump didn't care as he could have done the same.

It is entirely possible whoever issued that Swiss warrant was swayed by the fires, by the false claim that the campaign shot a cop, or both. Both of these are equally illegal in the US and Switzerland.

I prefer to avoid US hosted services whenever possible.

Once the Guard started this fight, it was up to the youth to finish it. Tolerating harassment and humiliation is NOT an option especially now. Surrender is NOT an option in these time. If an enemy comes out to fight and harasses people, that enemy must be driven off.

ICE raid on CA cannabis farm sparks battle with protesters, ICE agents FIRED ON with apparent pistol
We just saw the 3ed apparent armed attack on CBP or ICE in less than three weeks. On July 10 in Ventura County, ICE assaulted Glass House Farms along Laguna Road. This is a major legal cannibis grower. The raid blew up. Protesters resisted the raid, and ICE opened up with tear gas and smoke according to ABC 7. Protesters returned fire with rocks-and one with what appears from the air to be gunfire.
It appears from the air view that ICE thought twice about trying to tackle someone with what may have been a firearm.
With no hits though, it cannot be determined from the ABC 7 video if this pistol was a firearm, an air pistol, or something else. If the alleged shooter was not aiming to hit, it probably does not matter and a fake does have the advantage of not putting stray bullets in the air to come down who knows where.
