Google has now renamed developer mode to bootloader unlocking on chromebooks. Additionally, there is now an oem unlock toggle, just like android phones. You must now boot the OS and enable oem unlock to unlock the bootloader/enable developer mode.

I think the point of aster's post is that pmOS currently doesn't implement this stuff by default, so if you don't know what you're doing then you shouldn't rely on it.

Yeah it does expect the DE to play nicely with it. Although I'm curious how crouton works. It is able to start xorg on vt1 (where chrome is) and there is a keyboard shortcut to switch back and forth between chrome and xorg.

The wayland issues seem to be more related to the lack of kernel VTs, since without frecon running I have the same issues.

Launching Xorg after frecon will cause Xorg to steal control over the drm device which means frecon is unable to switch VTs. I wasn't able to get anything Wayland to start at all (though that could be me doing something wrong).

I tried this for a little while on pmOS and found that work will absolutely have to be done to get drm clients to play nicely with frecon.
