Ok, let's see if this actually goes through…
A major earthquake just struck the Southern Philippines, where I'm at right now.

Fortunately there are no injuries among my family, but there's a lot of interior damage which just got cleaned up. No visible exterior damage yet, but I'll wait for professionals to take a look later before making any conclusions. Unfortunately, an old car that was going to be sold off got hit in the hood and won't fully close anymore; it's insurance recently ran out, so that'll prolly be an expensive repair. :(
There are many reports of major structural damage, up to even building collapses. Some of the neighbouring fences and walls here also fell. I'm ***particularly*** concerned about the schools, since it's the first day of regular classes. D:

Think we can all agree that when it comes to community staff, anyone who is (at minimum) ***materially*** benefiting any of the involved parties in a matter should recuse themselves, right? This applies from physical gifts to monetary support via digital means.
If they don't recuse themselves, then the rest of the staff should at least ignore **everything** they have to say about a matter they have conflicts of interest in.
Now if that doesn't happen, then here's a possibly hot take:

⚠️ PSA for openSUSE Tumbleweed BudgieFor anybody using Budgie on openSUSE Tumbleweed, please **do not** update your systems! The unfinished Budgie Wayland session, prerelease Magpie v1, and other related deps have begun landing in openSUSE Tumbleweed repos.
Here's a bug report about it:

A lot of this is packaged from Git master and is not ready for end-users yet. No distro should be shipping any of this yet, outside of development or nightly editions or branches.
Just updated a laptop and saw a very broken Budgie before my very eyes (see photo). SDDM also kept crashing every next boot afterwards until after all Budgie packages were purged.

So, what are you going to do now? Shame that DivestOS has ended, otherwise there would be other options similar to Pixels for a Graphene-like setup.

An experimental port of Firefox Iceweasel is now available on HaikuDepot! So far, most sites are working fine. YouTube video playback is fine and Discord just works, however the web browser does occasionally take itself down. Still rather usable, though! If @npub1mn6…vg25 thought that Haiku was ready for daily driving with Falkon (see first screenshot), then rebranded Firefox surely has to make it even more viable by those standards!
It should be noted though that just like with Falkon, some crash dialogs can be ignored (drag them to another workspace) and the web browser can still be used.x86_64

Ah lol, forgot about that.
Still, what kinds of apps would be considered as completely safe under Flathub guidelines? They seem designed as if everyone needs a hardened security model, akin to what journalists or protesters need.

Funnily enough, a fake crypto wallet or similar kinds of apps would actually be considered safe under Flathub guidance.
They don't need access to anything local outside of their own isolated space.

Hi there, I'm Jules. Been running Linux since 2010 (first encountered it in 2009) and Haiku alongside it since 2020. Some folks may know me from across the rest of the internet under various aliases; find out about those from Meanderspace's The WWW page:

I've contributed to various open-source projects over the years, primarily with packaging (HaikuPorts, openSUSE, KDE Flatpaks), artwork (Haiku Community wallpapers, Budgie Backgrounds, KDE Konqi artworks, etc.), and
ports for Haiku (*VVVVVV*, *Sonic Robo Blast 2*, SDL *Sopwith*, etc.) from time to time.
Also a big foodie who likes to cook, likes exploring less well-known technology (hence the Haiku stuff), and always looking to learn more. Oh, also a big fan of theming in general; theming is a digital extension of a person and is an artform which should be recognised as such! Alright, that's enough rambling on from me for now.
