i think it's both and i think people that, through chance birth, are "luckier" and can generally forge their own path forward.
Now, 126 years ago, whatever, those people lived to 50, and everyone else just died in the mines or whatever.
Now though, especially in wealthy nations, we ought take care of people who are less well off than us.

i had two large regular CFL bulbs with edison bases, like 150W equivalent. They lasted 12 years. the SOCKETS they were in, OUTSIDE, broke from sun bleaching before the bulbs burned out.
I have to replace LED bulbs INDOORS like once a year, minimum. it SUCKS.
LED power supplies need heat sinking, and most bulbs are installed base up or base sideways, both of which concentrate heat in the power supply.

it's possible that the very act of paying attention to what you put in your body actually had the most health benefits.
the "science" on carnivore-style diets vacillates, with both sides making very decent claims.
My personal opinion is they're great for rapid weight loss, but aren't sustainable long term, and they generally are much safer the younger you are. If your kidney score is below 90%, i'd avoid any of those types of diets due to the stress on your kidney and liver.

I just got the good news that i successfully reduced my cholesterol without medication. my total cholesterol was 196, it is now 167, with LDL at 100 and triglycerides at 150 (which i will get down more over the next few months, i wasn't really concentrating on triglycerides, just cholesterol).
a friend asked, and as i told my doctor, this is all the changes i made in just *three months* between blood draws:

find real boric acid. in the US it's sold as a powdered ant and roach poison. It's a real acid, but very weak. but fungus can't survive it.
So you take all your shoes and you put boric acid in them, till the insides are white and a little bit of the acid slides around if you shake the shoe.
leave it like that for 24 hours, then smack the shoes really hard and get as much loose boric acid out.
you can wash the shoes now, or not. Either way.
it's the fastest way.

vicks vaporub under the nostrils. I try not to throw food away in the garbage because raccoons and the like throw trash everywhere, and then i gotta deal with varmints. I have a rubbermaid tote that is full of food and other waste - "anything that was alive recently". Luckily my wife can't smell anything so she just puts everything like leftovers into a bowl and i take the bowl and dump it in the tote.

I don't know if i knew the altitude thing. the oxygen is thinner so you get less compression anyhow, so you gotta "help out" the higher compression cars?
I don't know if there's any "standard" to colors of gasoline, but i have seen yellow for ethanol free (sometimes red though!) and green for diesel.
maybe 25-30 years ago when there was fewer players there was more "blue, red, black" pumps, i distinctly remember this in Los Angeles in the 90s.

short term, long term, working, or all three? My short term is *shot*, but my long term is better than nearly everyone i've known for 20-30 years.
I constantly am in a room wondering why i am in *that* room. I'm constantly forgetting to write down appointments, and i sometimes forget to shut off water when i am doing RO so it ends up leaking water all over my house.
For the things i can i've automated, and i've started intermittently taking gingko. Will add ginseng and ginger, too.

this happened to me last night and there was intermittent monsoon weather - like 15' visibility. I'm in an AWD with cameras that can lane keep, so i'm sitting at 57 *the whole way* and this particular idiot would also fall way back, like a half mile, whenever the rain would pick up. I don't have a rear camera in the AWD, so i can't prove *this time*, but it'll happen in my car sometime, and it has a rear cam.
I really want to come up with a descriptive name for either type of driver

do rechargeable alkaline have a higher voltage? i know that nimh are "1.2v" but they're 1.2V nearly the whole time. alkaline batteries are higher voltage (1.5), so if your charger can handle both (new ones generally can handle all three, nimh, alkaline, and li-ion)

there's some good books because transformers are varied and interesting. Like, instead of paying >$50 for a balun for a vertical antenna (or a crappy offset dipole) you can just wind 10 meters of spare coax around a soda or bleach bottle (you know the size) and zip tie it in that form. it's a transformer, a balance to unbalanced transformer.
i have a PSU with the toroid in it like you have there. It is 5V DC at 10 amps or something stupid like that, and it's VPP ripple is like 2microvolts

i called my wildlife foundation and asked about legislation like that in my state and they said "only unlawful if you're hunting" and i basically quoted what you said to them to ensure we were using the right framing, "in a tent can't use flashlight... someone may have a gun".
I have heard our dept of wildlife and fisheries ("game wardens") are real assholes. i do know where one lives, though.

i have adhd and insomnia, however the insomnia started after i quit drinking; also i've always been a "stay up till reference time 02:30, PST", no matter where i am; so that means i don't get tired until after 04:00 here.
I meant more like how much caffeine are you ingesting daily, and at what time do you stop?
curious thing about me: when i was in my late teens and early 20s, if i needed to get a "full night's sleep" i'd drink a black eye americano at 23:30 or so and be out by 00:30.

my synology broke because of their shit PSU - i had it on a UPS so it kept turning itself on and trying to update because it was connected to a UPS.
I'm not paying another $600-$1000 just to stream video in a nice way.
i'll just chunk up my stuff by genre or year and have more subfolders to speed up godawful CIFS/SMB

there was a software i used 15 years ago or so that was like jellyfin and plex called TVersity that managed transcoding, at the time they charged a bit of money so you could get the transcoding settings for every device on the market, and updates, etc.
it did all of this. Synology Video service, whatever it was called, also managed this perfectly.
And the DLNA worked. And the SMB was *fast* so vlc could browse huge folders.
jellyfin and plex are *slow*.

just crashes on my share. kodi loads it, but it gets stuck and i have to hit the filter button a few times to get the app to refresh.
i just have a lot of videos, that aren't in like scene release format. i rip a lot on my own, so the ISO will be next to the rips i make, and that just confuses every "media manager".
i have a yt-dlp directory, and even jellyfin can't really handle it, it says it's a show from 2021 called unsorted and i'm missing a few seasons...

i did test 6 cookwares and all six did not heat, but 3 in different ways. the aluminum or steel pans with magnetic bottoms would "click. click. click-click" in a spooky cycle. cast iron no noise no heat.
all six worked immediately after (boil 1 cup of water ~45 seconds,) on a 120VAC induction cooktop.

ordered a 240VAC dual induction hob "in counter" thing, wired it up, didn't heat. sent for a replacement, wired it up, same thing, didn't heat. exact same failure condition. unit powers on, says it's heating, but never heats.
So i called an elechicken friend and they said "chinesium, probably. wire the hob ground to red, hob L1 to ground, hob L2 to black and see what happens."
i thought i could short test ground to chassis but there's no metal anywhere i can reach with my probe.
PITA. SAD.

i noticed the memory leak in that suddenly the last part before mp3-ify was slow, but i've experienced this with *good* ML software. it just starts shuttling to the main RAM. Luckily i think all of the "stuff" needed to continue the workflow (as the intention is to collaborate with the AI rather than 1-shot it) is in the .json and the mp3 output.
Where and how do i use miromind ? is it micromind?

isn't very big. Hilarious that images, video, and audio are relatively small models. I'm sure there's some massive merges now; however, most of the models i have are 4-8GB.
LLM models? 1TB and up (qwen is considered small at something like 800GB)

i have a nas that blew itself up with a bad PSU, i get a blue light of death, no recovery. I gotta go buy a sharpie so i can label the disks, i'm gunna pull them and put them in a 4-bay external USB drive bay thing i have.
Is there a quick and dirty guide to how to "see" / read / load my array on a linux machine? I could probably stumble through it; however i would like to be certain i won't lose 1 folder, not backed up :-(

8 stations that both have >95% complete records for 100 years
*and* are *fully rural*.
if you start moving goalposts, obviously the numbers change. if you change it to 75 years of 80, for instance, you get 8 stations "fully rural" in Antarctica.
anyhow i stated it explicitly. it is arbitrary, of course, but if you look at your map, just realize that the vast majority of those (more than 70% globally, more than 90% in the US) are fully urban or intermediate stations.
