The @npub1m96…ag4y is apparently working on a response to @npub1gx0…4u5c, a citizen initiative that wants to force video game developers to keep their games playable.
The problem: It’s a non-binding legal act, just a step up from a press release. Supporters of the initiative, like [@echo_pbreyer](https://digitalcourage.social/@echo_pbreyer ), are not happy.

In the last few months, many people have called on the EU to start supporting open alternatives to US-owned social media sites. The thing is: The EU has been doing that for some time already. It has financed, among others, ActivityPub, Mastodon and PeerTube. So, what to do? The auditors propose an EU-wide enforcement mechanism, and the Commission seems to like that idea. It might happen sooner than later: The geoblocking regulation is up for revision in just two months.

The problem is also pretty clear: It’s on the member states to enforce this law, and they don’t do enough. In five years, the responsible authorities went after a merchant together once and that merchant still hasn’t fixed one of the problems they identified.

The law is pretty clear: If you sell something online in the EU, you have to make it available to everyone in the EU. There are some exceptions, for example physical goods if you don’t deliver to a certain country, and intellectual property like movies and series. More on that later.

The European Court of Auditors published an interesting report on #geoblocking in the #EU yesterday. The EU is supposed to have a common market, where goods, services and money flow freely – but this report shows that in the digital world, that often isn’t the case.

The #EU Commission has a long, long list of digital projects. I took a good look at what’s supposed to come in the next weeks – and which projects might still take a bit longer.
In January and February, we will probably see a European Action Plan to improve the #cybersecurity of hospitals and healthcare providers as well as recommendations on how to deal with challenges in e-commerce.
