All the "auto detect" translating machines doesn't detect any language at all. That's the problem with it. I may speak it as I want, I guess? But as they are from France, I think, whatever a French person would pronounce, is the best way?
Matthias (@nprofile…ggtt) did already help - his French partner wasn't sure either but she tried; and I think I go with that?

I dunno, somehow this doesn't make me happy.
There is another alternative to corporate owned Bandcamp now. Not that Bandcamp is bad or something, but yes, corporate owned. Musicians releasing on Bandcamp depend on decisions by the owner. Rules could be changed by tomorrow.
So that's why we have now at least @nprofile…28n3 and bandwagon.fm . Both born and operating from a free open source community spirit.

They are a CoOp - means community drive by definition. Not bad, sure.
But I'm not too happy anymore. Because WHY?
As a musician I have to make through 4 different complex release processes now:
1. Bandcamp (of course - this is, where people are discovered. Important thing for most musicians)
2. Mirlo
3. Bandwagon
4. subvert
2-4 forcing me through a ridiculous user unfriendly Paypal alternative: Stripe.
Personally I have no idea at least for Mirlo how to setup Stripe in a way, people could pay per Album or per Title. In Bandwagon I didn't even try.
Now Subvert even advertises Stripe as a good feature, as it's not Paypal. But Stripe is US based as well. They have no problem to cut your money flow just for rumors of you being anti fascist (the most human and democratic stance) or someone claims you take money for doing naughty things (also human behavior in the history of mankind).
This happened already.
Good luck contacting their hotline in such a case.
While saying all this I'm well aware: Anything not Paypal should be preferred. But there aren't much alternatives, and the one (one! besides Crypto) we've got isn't necessarily and objectively better.
But the main problem I see:
We devide attention to musicians this way!
Every new service takes away users and supporters from the others.
And music is cluttered all over the place even more. Good luck finding that particular piece of music that could really change your life when it's on Mirlo only.
Even more sad, when someone releases on his:her:their Faircamp only. How to find that when you don't know about the artist in the first place.
Personally I've given up here as a "semi professional consument". I need around 40h to prepare my radio show of 1 hour. I can't check #Mirlo, #Bandwagon, #Subvert, and the #Faircamp scene extra - on top of checking #Bandcamp. A lot of bands, let alone consumers don't even know about Bandcamp! And that is by far the most agreed upon service for indie and underground artists. Then there is also Soundcloud (which I hate) - lots of trap/hip-hop stuff is exclusively there.
If I read here in the Fediverse (my only social network) about new releases, best already embedded in your post - I'll listen.
Don't get me wrong. I really wish for a community driven Bandcamp alternative. But I hate the clutter resulting from so many upcoming players in the field.
Which all can't be avoided - I see that too. Is this whole post worthless then? Maybe. Maybe not. I have no solution. I'm just thinking loud.

Spotify Search down?
In the process of preparing my radio show. I need to check for certain Songs if they are on #Spotify or not - just to play my awkward "not on Spotify" jingle alonigside :) - but I have to be sure.
However - whatever I search - even Lady Gaga - nothing comes out of it. I'm not a Spotify customer, I'm just using their webpage to search.
Am I the only one?
Can someone confirm ?

Oh. thanks for chiming in. Ardour is great btw. (use it exclusively for "non tracker" based workflows all the time. Thanks for all your good work!
Perhaps I'm so much in it for Clap more for "ideological" and "being ahead of the curve feeling" reasons.
- the companies behind it are active within the Linux realm for a long time. Bitwig and U-he. Steinberg on the other hand not at all in terms of real plugins. Null. I tend to cherish companies that truly support Linux
- Being Open Source is a base pillar for Clap. Clap is build with Open Source in mind. Steinberg? They open sources VST3 just recently. As an after thought.
Just after Clap gained noticable traction. Surly a coincidence, right?
- Clap has a fresher code base and allows for some things I have already forgotten and never used anyway, but still. ;)
I see more future in Clap than in anything else for those reasons. Not the best reasons maybe? Dunno.

I am quite disappointed by Renoise's ignorance of Clap. There are "Feature Requests" going on since 2021, meanwhile new Renoise versions came out – but this -important- development stays ignored.

Totally interesting. The exact sweet spot between the old "depressive" The Cure ("One hundred years", "Cold") and the new much more playful The Cure ("The Walk". "Caterpillar").
I'm still impressed to hear so much tracks from their dark phase at this point in time; but I guess they simply hadn't enough new stuff ready yet: Why Can't I Be You is still in the future. On the other hand, Love Cats is missing, and that definitely was out already. Hmm. Playing with clichés then, ey?

I did read through those "let's show some actionism" buzzword PDFs and statements that sound like wishful thinking like "The race for leadership in AI is far from over."
You come up with this NOW?!
I see exactly nothing to address the problems to make AI different and better. On what material to train? How to get the consent of creators to train your AIs with? Or is copyright infringement for AI training now fine? Who will label and tag? Poor people in Africa again, right? Also copyright infringement when using generative AI (which actually is what you refer too). Not addressed.
Because you guys don't even have the insight.
You hear AI and think €€€, and that's it. But then.
The financial / economic side - how do get ram, storage, GPU/AI accelerators, even the material resources for it - for the totally unrealistic scenario you want to build those components here in Europe (we are 40 years behind in this sector).
Energy consumption? Realistic approach? Hello?
Did I mention I miss every realistic insight?
What you suddenly (by being 15 years behind) want to achieve now all at once, is repeating the same mistakes again. Trying to catch-up with China and the US to do exactly the same. I see nothing about trying a different, a better approach. Instead I see how you totally ignore the odds. Why even bother then?
The whole thing is doomed to fail clearly, if you start this as naive as you do.

It feels unreal to be right between 2 kick ass tunes by FILIPPP and NOMISTAKE and on one disc together with legends like Vincenzo or Chavez.

Weil, I don't like that font.
But everything else. Wow!
That this runs on an #Amiga 500 home computer. That it fits including the unbelievable rich sounding 4 channel 8bit music into 64 KB.

The funny thing is: Brigitte Calls Me Baby started out as a "The Smiths" soundalike band. Now we know how this all went with The Smiths. While Johnny Marr still is a chilled, down to earth guy, yet incredibly skilled as a guitarist and composer... the face of the Smiths, Morrissey, is not - actually quite the opposite: A bitter diva with rightwing views.
Now I think, as a "The Smiths soundalike" project you gotta take sides! And in this regards it's important to know, that The Cure's front man Robert Smith is and was never impressed by Morrissey, totally not (as his former band mate Siouxsie Sioux), and he publicly stated this multiple times.
So it's quite funny and also a bold statement, to find a large citation of The Cure's "Close to me" in this song.
On top of that Brigitte Calls me Baby is starting to emancipate themselves from sounding like a Smiths cover band, but doing their own thing now. Good!

Any better Large Diaphragm Microphone (rule of thumb: starting at 100 €) should do the trick. They are super sensitive.
If you use one, make sure, there is no impact noise / low cut switch activated (if there is one) to not filter out the important low frequencies in this case.
Notice, you need some preamp with 48V power supply (most mixers have it build in).
I would advice against USB Diaphragms here but only from personal experience: The ones I've tried all had a noticable noise floor (higher than -50dB), you don't want that.
Dynamic (live) micros are not suitable for this case.

I'm... uh... old. The last time I've played Tokyo Xtreme Racer was back then on the Sega Dreamcast.
I didn't find it exciting, mainly because it all happened at night. No change in scenario: Highway, inner city, highway again, darkness, neon lights.
I'm a sucker for new scenarios, snow, sea, mountains, rural villages - that kind of thing. This all wasn't there:
2 hours and I dismissed it; I was simply bored. Still: Back then the game already had a kinda cult status. Which never got to me.
But now it's 25 years later ;) .
It still plays at night, so no snowy mountains for me. But the "work through your rivals" system sounds... quite cool!
Do you think a racing diva like me should give it a try then?
Is it only 1:1 races? It's "open world" isn't it? Is this open world aspect annoying sometimes?

Someone tell about this demonstration of solid posture Poettering.
This is, how it's done.
Some personal note:
I had the chance to meet and talk to Poettering in around 2013. He explained the fresh Nspawn container concept in a small Berlin LUG (Belug) location. It was fascinating, he was brilliant. He burned for this thing.
I'm so super disappointed watching him becoming a soulless corporate asset over time.
The Graphene OS guys on the other hand? I have so much respect toward them just from their stance in this regard.

I just saw over at "Linux Daw", that JoaCHIP has started porting old Jeskola Buzz Plugins like Arguelle¹'s TB4006 from around 2000 to Linux/#VST (also Windows and Mac, but who cares nowadays? ;) ) and I celebrate any of this!!

#Debian13 / #Podman5 / #Pasta / #Gancio
Whoa - I've debugged two long nights and had one more nights with bad dreams about changing config files - before it finally occurred to me. Podman 5, the version coming with the upgrade from Debian12 to Debian13 (Podman v.4 before), has some SERiOUS breaking changes, I wasn't aware and I didn't felt "informed" enough — therefore this post:
If your Podman container running under Podman 5 has an automatic URL rule, where it changes all internal links to external links: To Links your hosts reserve proxy is presenting from the hosts main network interface - those links wont work.
And this is by far not uncommon. I'm running a quite huge Gancio instance, I am affected. So why is this? Podman v5 did change the base of its networking to something called "pasta". There are surly good reasons for this, but one of the main (anti) features of Pasta is: Connections from within containers to the main hosts IP won't work. At all.
This is btw. breaking the "marketing" claim of the Podman guys that Podman may be used as "in place" replacement of #Docker. No, this way this isn't working (and it wont work for other reasons as well, [hello to Nextcloud]).
So, whats a very effective and quick fix for this? Getting rid of Pasta!
So at least in Debian, cp /usr/share/containers/containers.conf to /etc/containers and make sure the network section contains this:
[network]
default_rootless_network_cmd = "slirp4netns"
(with the slirp4nets packages being installed).
Boom, it all works again.

You know who I've completely lost track about? Sivert Høyem, the singer of Madrugada. That unbelievable great band from Sweden, back in the 2000s. Madrugada is no more, so much I knew, because their founding guitarist Robert Burås died - already in 2007.
But what I didn't knew: Sivert Høyem, that Nick Cave from the northern sphere, was the one who wrote almost all the songs back then. And did sing them, with his once-in-a-century voice.
Naturally he continued.
As I said I didn't know. My girlfriend however did. Tonight I saw him performing live. Boy!! What a voice, what a guy, what full of sorrow but also hope bearing heavy weighting music, that isn't embarrassing or dishonest after all this years in the slightest. Pure raw gold.
All that thanks to my girlfriend who organized tickets for the show.
She couldn't be there. She fell ill (a nasty virus) just 2 days ago (we live 45 minutes away from each other. I am NOT affected, no worries).
Wished we could have shared that beautiful concert. Sometimes you simply can't have it all... So I'm here, back at home. Stunned, sad and happy in parallel. Just like a good old Madrugada song feels...

I did it! Despite some heavy challenges in RL or maybe just to stay a bit sane ;) I've finished my #aciddecember25 track
SOUR SGREEN LiCKARR
Tried something different this time by merging some #bassMusic vibes with #Acid – and yes, that turned out pretty nice, I'd say 😜 .
Sonic weapons of joice: #Renoise on #Linux with lots of #Uhe U-HE TyrellN6 instances (nowadays free!) for most of the "harmonic" sounds, Surge XT of course and most important JC-303, the by far best open source TB303 plug-in. Then a bunch of classic M1 Piano samples (not that they can be recognized as such after my heavy FX treatment), unconventional sliced and filtered drum loops from random "first to pop up in my SE" Internet sources, the iconic Atari ST speech synth, the Google Translate voice, own field recordings and lots of filtered feedback delay chains. Almost no reverb btw (only for rhythmic accents and in the beginning).

Just want to mention that the German musician Andreas Dorau did the opposite and dropped a whole (and brilliant) album some years ago, containing only refrains - nothing else. Album is called "Das Wesentliche' ("the essential").

In 7 tracks deep so far. It has a thick 90s sound layer all over.
Seriously. There are massive Curve, or Sneaker Pimps vibes. If this would have been dropped in 1996, this would have been a game changer.
However it's not only that. There is still a lot of Young Gods DNA in it.
It's getting real good in the moments, it breaks out, it' s not under 100% control. And there are lots of those moments. They provoke 'em. That's what makes this album still a pleasure to listen to. Ignore the outdated 90s "industrial pop" aesthetics - especially because the Young Gods were never totally away from being a pop band, that's not changed.
And if you think about it. It was them who pioneered this sound in the late 80s already - Curve and the likes just took it from there.
So full circle.

And then, you know, I was CJing (with tape cassettes) yesterday at the c-base space station in Berlin. Almost 5 hours non stop. Which meant that I had to more or less restart halfway through because I only had music for about 2:40h with me. No problem, because in the first half most people were outside at the barbecue. And that's totally fine :) . I've never played a CJ set this long in my life I think - didn't know I have it in me :) . It was a blast.
And because it was completely free net music (creative Commons + Demoscene) all way through I did something, I always wanted to do and I whished others would do as well (free music or not):
There was a whiteboard on stage and I did write every track currently playing at the whiteboard. So people knew which track they danced to. So I was constantly busy reeling the tape to the right position, doing something like a transition between tracks and running to the whiteboard, wiping it and writing the new title on it. Phun :)

Ah, nope, sorry - indeed that would have made sense. You mean overlapping sample exact and then see if there are cancellations? I was about to do that but because I don't know how MP3 generally behaves in such regards and also I don't have much time right now (sharp deadline to finish something until Saturday) I thought, nah, trust your ears.

So I looked into it. I played my tune "Gagarin" directly from the Mirlo site and recorded the internal monitor of my soundcard - so I have a 1:1 digital representation.
Then I put the original "master" recording directly below. Without doing anything to any of those tracks - they look (and sound) 1:1 similar to me. I know, there will be fine differences due to lossy compression, but in general: This is fine. In my case.
However:
@nprofile…5lrv - I know for a fact that Jayrope has a very fine and sensitive hearing. He certainly doesn't make this up. Do you have any explanation how such a thing may happen perhaps? Or know someone who does? TL'DR: His tracks suddenly sound "boomy and thinner" at the same time on Mirlo.
Maybe the Mirlo servers do some kind of bit rate reduction, when there is too much load on their servers? That would be a possible explanation.

Am here with my phone, so I can't do much of an analysis.
First Idea:
When you say "streaming sound": If you download those tracks again from Mirlo, are they fine then? *)
Because this sounds to me like there is processing happening right at your uploaded files. If so, that would proof it. *)
I have only one Track with a bigger dynamic range (not anything maxed out from the beginning ;) ). And here with my phone that sounds louder at Mirlo compared to the local file at my phone. Not sure if that says something, as I may have uploaded a normalized variant. On the phones speakers however it doesn't sound thinner or something. Just the volume is raised. But sound wise I shouldn't rely on phone speakers. Also again: I'm not sure, if I uploaded the variant that rests on my phone. Will check tonight.
*) Just realized there is no option to do this (should I enable this or do I have to remove the pay option?). Maybe with the "Media" function from Firefox or a Firefox-Fork? But then that would be the streaming variant. Sorry for the bad advice then.

I will, definitely. Don't wanna spoil anything already yet; on the other hand: This came up quite surprisingly and had a kind of "dark" touch to it; and because this musician found a way to deal with it, I didn't proceed the question further. Yet I'm wondering, while reading your issue almost the same moment - and mind you: this is not an easy topic to talk about - I wonder how many actually are dealing with this.
In the meantime... Did you try to listen to other genres, other epochs maybe?
Or does this feel even more... frustrating / tiring?

I'm always amazed that this is now a serious science topic. And it's gotta be!
Trackers and tracked music are an integral part of a very independent, mostly European free software, free digital culture underground movement, driven by friendly artistic competition mostly.
And people from that scene are growing old now; almost every month a Demo appears where a scene group mourns over the loss of a member.
Who is better suited to tell the tale as members of that scene now being part of the science movement too? Great!!
