No, not related at all. It is closer to marmot since they both use mls under the hood. Coordinators are as dumb as relays, and can be ran even from a browser tab. They are very lightweight, and in order to expose them you don't need to deal with http, dns, ips, etc. You can deploy a coordinator from your closet or as I said form a browser tab. Quite wild

Since then, I’ve moved from using Cordn through its PWA to using it in the Keychat browser. The reason is that I was logging into the PWA using a NIP-46 remote signer. It worked flawlessly, but each signature required a round trip through relays, a limitation of remote signers, as they can’t be called natively from PWAs. Now, by using it in Keychat, I’ve overcome that limitation, and the app feels much faster for signed operations (which aren’t too frequent, anyway), Cordn is very signer-friendly. Also I can use it from my desktop and mobile. So good 🏄

Therefore there is no real urgency, people have already expressed their positions. But by pushing it this way, a majority of Parliament will need to vote against it. My old KYC’d phone broke, so I got a new cheap one to put the SIM in. I was horrified by the amount of crap (bloatware) it came with from the factory (Amzn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Temu, Netflix... the list goes on). The first thing I did before even connecting it to the internet or inserting my SIM was to enable ADB, run UAD (https://github.com/Universal-Debloater-Alliance/universal-android-debloater-next-generation/), remove all that junk, and then install @nprofile…tdq0 . Now the phone is as clean as it could be. I wish everyone could do this it’s not difficult, though there’s a lot of resistance for normies. Anyway, life is beautiful again! :)

It is similar to a marmot. It’s MLS + Nostr for identity. The difference is that instead of storing messages on relays, Cordn uses a coordinator. However, this coordinator is accessed through Nostr relays, as CVM (similar to a DVM). So everything is transmitted via relays as ephemeral events, but not stored on them.
If you really want to understand this protocol, I have an article published covering Cordn and the other messaging protocols built over Nostr. It’s called "Private Communications Over Public Infrastructure."

This is very interesting indeed. I need to keep wrapping my head around this, but I have a doubt. How large does the initial prompt have to be? AFAIK, this initial prompt that both users need to use in order to initialize the LLM state so they can decode would work as a kind of “symmetric key,” right? If this is true, I was just wondering how secure or what is the shape of that initial prompt is, and whether it is susceptible to brute forcing in some way. Because for someone to participate in a conversation, they just need the LLM model and the prompt, and then they can exchange encoded messages out of band, right? Please correct me if I’m wrong on any of the points; I’m still trying to understand this :)

Also, it will make nip 17 DM traffic distinguishable from all other gift wrap traffic, which, from my point of view, really harms metadata protection. Currently, I don’t consider nip 17 private, but this would make it much worse. Have you read my article on this subject?

We've talked about this different times. If you expect to have an undefined number of requests during a session, it's more efficient and performant to use WS. Yes, you could batch and create a single HTTP request with all the targets a user wants. But that doesn't work in all situations. You cannot know beforehand all the targets the user may have during a session, so it'll probably end up making a number of small requests.
Also, I agree DVMs are a tragedy, they're very poorly designed. But nothing stops you from receiving a response that is a subscription. Indeed, you can do that with @nprofile…vp7v now, so that's also an optimization in some scenarios where users subscribe and receive responses as long as they stay online.
And yes, aside from all of that, I agree relays could be optimized. WS introduces the 101 overhead, and so on, but relays as message bus (DVMs/CVMs) offer something you cannot get with an HTTP server, which is getting rid of IPs, DNS, SSL, NATs, etc. If you want to run an HTTP server, you have to comply with all of that.
To make this clear: I'm not against one solution or the other. Different approaches, different tradeoffs. I think that open ranking is good to be running on HTTP servers. I wish it could be transport agnostic so I can implement it in Relatr.

Rev.1 of "Private communications over public infrastructure" is up.
Hey everyone! How’s it going? I’m introducing Rev.1 of my article "Private communications over public infrastructure." The first version walked through NIP-04, NIP-17, Marmot, and Double Ratchet, exploring whether private communications over public infrastructure are even possible and whether privacy and encryption are the same thing. The short answer was that it’s mostly not possible because relay metadata does most of the work.
This revision is a rewrite of some parts and an expansion. The biggest change is the addition of three new protocols to the survey: Concord, Nymchat, and Cordn. I’ve also added more nuances about the concept of "Sovereignty" and included a helpful table that puts all the protocols and their features together. I hope you enjoy reading it!

The highlights:
- Covered the in-progress Marmot v2 draft and what it changes regarding privacy.
- The NIP-4e section is now fully written out instead of being a stub.
- Added subscription filters as a key piece of metadata: the filter a client sends to a relay is itself observable, and this nuance now runs through the entire piece.
- A new framework section defines the tradeoff dimensions upfront (forward secrecy, post-compromise recovery, and others), with a comparison table mapping all eight protocols across them.
- Introduced a two-observer model: external observer vs. relay operator, because some protocols hide more from one than the other.
- The conclusion now clearly distinguishes between exit sovereignty (the ability to leave a relay) and control sovereignty (governing the substrate), reframing what Nostr actually delivers.
