Let's assume you have a common unit of account that workers use to track the flow of advances of goods between themselves. You take your unit of account, that you got through advancing goods and your own hard work, and head to my store to buy shoes. I can tell it's safe to give you the shoes, because you have proof that you've done hard work and advanced goods to um... someone.
Then you get mugged on the way there and left bleeding and unconscious in the alleyway. The mugger proceeds to walk into my store and give me your money. How do I tell that the mugger wasn't the one who worked hard and advanced goods?
Alternatively suppose you make it to my store, but a scammer runs in and shouts that you mugged them and stole their money. How do I tell you're not the mugger?
That's what I mean by blood money. Has nothing to do with credit or loans. Though loans do make it much worse.

Why, instead of groups of workers simply acting on the free gifts of nature, advancing streams of material resources to one another, and using a simple unit of account to track the balance of these advances of material resources and who owes what to whom, do they have to go to someone who is in possession of stockpiles of these imaginary paper claims?

Have you read the book "The Kin of Ata are Waiting For You?" It's some hapless author's utopian self insert fantasy, but there's a lot of wisdom in it too. In particular, they define boredom. Boredom is not inactivity. It is the fear that there is something essential for your survival that you need to do, and you don't know what it is. Boredom is anxiety, not apathy.

It's really gone downhill, especially video search. It just pulls from Microsoft Bing I mean, so they're the ones who are shit these days.
Does anyone know a search engine that returns results in order of upload/modification time? That's the only thing I really use DDG's video search for, and all I can do there is limit it to stuff uploaded last week, or last month, not allowed to set the order. And it doesn't work anymore... so many people who used to appear will upload, but all you see is videos on whatever disaster the newscasters are trying to manipulate us with.

My mother's watching a news report on "Skid Row" in Los Angeles, in which while passing tents, the reporter repeatedly mentions cleaning up needles and drugs, and never actually speaks to any homeless people. (Couldn't find someone drugged up enough to look bad on television?) Last I saw they were approaching a fire, speculating on what it "could" be: clothes, drugs, feces. Feces?

Oh yeah the Mexican food and the farmers market are great! Lots of good people here! But they're not the city, sadly. The mayor and his/her cronies shipped in from Texas are the only ones who define the "City of Hillsboro." Just go up Brookwood sometime to highway 26, you'll see the ugly side of this place. All that wasn't there 10 years ago.
I'd like at least something more like the Beaverton system, where the city council get to do something other than sit there and look pretty. So, I just figured out another reason charity sucks sweaty monkey balls. Food donated to charity; grocery stores love to do that! They'll donate tons of food for the needy. It's all expired, possibly rotting food that they can no longer sell, but who are you to complain? It's free!

But besides that yes, what I think you're getting at is complexity is a form of obfuscation. Obfuscation is like, you can't call source code open, if what you share was processed to eliminate all information possible and confuse the original intent, so all we see is some junk like "(function()v1=(function(a,b,c)c(function(d,e)e(f, g))(3))(97))(idk)." Javascript is infamous for having very effective code obfuscators, and that's why Google Drive for instance is as closed source as anything Microsoft produced.
Complexity becomes obfuscation, by hiring infiltrators to make a project bigger and more complex, adding things like telemetry (which makes up more than half of Firefox's source code now), and "modern" UIs deliberately designed to require a lot of code to program. Hiring more people to false flag advocate for bigger, kitchen-sink software that tries to do everything. Like the people going on about WebASM or some nonsense.
It can even happen accidentally, when the project members aren't careful to limit themselves to making focused applications with strong modularity. Also known as feature creep.
The fact of the matter is, the more complex, bloated, tangled and convoluted your open source software is, the less open it is. Modularity, cohesion, and decoupling help with debugging, but also with making your code more accessible to people trying to understand it. (As long as you don't get into abstraction hell.)

Did the muffin thing today. What do you call it when you sell people muffins, but you're not charging any money? Well over a hundred muffins got et, pretty cool. The college students have started coming over to volunteer from like 1:30 to 2, so I couldn't even get close to the little table we're serving muffins on.
So I went in to where they were taking bulk sacks of food and repackaging it, for the "Trading Post" (a combined clothes closet / food pantry) and helped turn 3 four pound bags of sugar into 12 one pound bags. Met a lady named Doris, and another lady who said people get her name mixed up with some other name, but I can't remember either of them.
I got to stay extra late too, because my mother said what she cooked today would depend on how much pain she was in. She didn't elaborate. So we skipped cooking today, and I didn't have to leave early for dinner.

Well, let's say you and I want to secretly exchange stuff nontransparently, but all we have is append only logs. I add a private message to you, to my append only log, that says I'm starting a different append only log. Using that log (only shared between us) we exchange secrets. So everything I publish is completely transparent except for everything that isn't.
I don't think there are any use cases for blockchains. It's just spinning your wheels for what seems like it'd be useful, but there are always better ways to do it.

Yeah my amazing idea for a forum that works great is like:
1. Big Things are broken up into Little Things, each one hashed into lists of hashes to summarize it.
2. Big lists of hashes are broken up and hashed into smaller lists of hashes.
3. Eventually you got 1 root hash.
4. Your blog (every post in sequence) is a Big Thing
5. Every time you post you figure out the new Root Hash of your new blog
6. Sign the Root Hash, and share it with your friends
7. Anyone can request a Little Thing by its hash.
So if you're on a flaky network, you can just request the hashes for pieces of a blog you're missing, get as many as you can while you're online. Can push those Little Things to other people too if they'll let you. No download or upload fails, it's all eventually consistent if you keep the "exchange missing pieces" thing.
Annnd, encrypt the pieces with your public key as a symmetric key, so anyone holding them has deniability. (They need your public key before they can read them.)
So that's it. Multimedia attachments are also Big Things. The whole hash tree thing makes swarming happen just by default. Only tricky part is finding servers/supernodes to store your blog on, to make it easier to distribute.

Reason I roll my eyes every time I hear "append-only log" is it's completely useless and unnecessary. We already have things called "hard disks" that can save a log, with no obligation to delete it once saved. And to use an append-only log, you have to sign new updates to it, otherwise anyone could start appending to your log. So why not use the signing key for identification? If you do that, what's the point of the log?
Just reading this code it's like INVALID_PROOF, verifyUpgrade(proof), class TreeProof, settleProof() all to prove that your current log entry refers to all past log entries. Why would you care if someone's latest log refers to all their past logs? What's invalid about them removing a past log, and publishing that as an update? Just...
1. keep a list of root hashes for every log
2. someone sends you a signed root hash for their latest log
3. it's verified. you're done. Add it to the list.
4. download the rest of the latest log later.
Why does no one do that? It's not append-only, because why would it need to be? To keep me from deleting a log entry on my own log? You have all the old root hashes! If I delete a log entry or edit one in my latest log, just look at those old ones.

It was Lennart Pottering's uh... "passion" project. He's the one who demanded we all use his sound server even though it added a layer of complexity and a new point of failure, and sound already worked. You might know it as PulseAudio. That particular fellow realized a critical vulnerability in the "open source" community. None of us compile anything anymore.
So if he could get projects to add "optional" systemd support that could only be removed at compile time, then binary distributions like Debian or Arch had to choose: require systemd, or forbid it. He also has big influence in the Redhat project, so they turned everything to use systemd, and their users couldn't do shit about it. Debian/Ubuntu followed, and Arch was soon after. Because once most people (using Redhat) were using systemd, they went through the trouble of learning how to use it, and came to expect it.
Even if it could be made secure, the way it was introduced makes it really hard to avoid vulnerabilities, because uh... it's mandatory, so you just have to hope it's secure. And it's a big fat kitchen sink project with no discipline about keeping things secure, because it's mandatory, so they're accountable for nothing.

I can't stop people from bitching that women are total hoes, nor would I. I'd stop people from feeling like that, by getting them into genuinely sweet relationships, if I could. Or at least getting their anger directed at oppressive rich fucks, and not sex workers. I don't have even that luxury though. So whatever.

I'm not sure why especially by men. Some people out there are shitty, some just lashing out because they're lonely, or got dumped. Or cheated on. Lecturing people on language use feels wrong, when you're taking the literal meaning of their words, and not examining the motivations behind their writers. You want misogyny, look for the well suited gentleman with a wife and three kids, talking calmly about family values, traditional families, and protecting the children. You know she's hiding a black eye, the way some of those slimeballs talk.
A social media ban for under-16s might prevent young boys seeing endless content that treats women with contempt and hate.
Language like that, for instance! Are you entirely sure that is a 15 year old girl?

Oh also obligatory mention that tags are way better than content warnings. Nobody who needs a CW can use them, since you get triggered by the content warning. And everything you say is going to bother at least someone. Tags are infinitely superior, because you can tag stuff as fascism, and as gore, and everybody who doesn't want to see one or the other can filter it out, without even reading it. At the same time nobody who doesn't mind either tag will have to click through a content warning.

I dunno, maybe if it was super important. I'd definitely ask him to leave if I had to warn everyone that someone's right outside the building putting people in chokeholds. Plus I didn't need to be so enthusiastic in my retelling. It just reminded me of content warnings and stuff.

Yeah like, I was trying to tell a story of that lady they put in a chokehold for submitting a petition, because it's freaking badass to get taken down like that, and one guy there shut me down hard. We were not to speak of anything like that, and we had to change the subject right now.
I uh... assume because... someone put him in a chokehold at some point and it brought back bad memories. He didn't say though. Just no talking about it, I'm not OK with this.
So of course I changed the subject. But it really is insidious how things can actually get worse for everyone if people who've been through terrible things can't let people talk about them. Sometimes we need to be disturbed, and there are consequences when we can't stand it. How to give people that resilience, I can't say though. Some people are just... slave to their trauma and it doesn't seem like anything can free them from it. How do you lecture someone into not having a completely involuntary PTSD episode?

The Luddites didn't even go full Luddite. They felt they had not exhausted political action, then were summarily executed and/or sent to slave colonies. They mailed letters, did public demonstrations, signed petitions, and for their efforts they were beset by bullshitters accusing them of "military-like drills," among other obvious fabrications. They wrecked machinery, then got blamed for death threats. They were blamed for the Pentrich uprising, which itself was caused by the unbearable exploitation of the working class, and not by the working class who justifiably marched on Nottingham. But nobody there was flying some imagined flag of Ned Ludd!
I wasn't there when it went down, but I call it like I see it. A city nearby to me had a lady last week who marched up to city council during a public hearing and held up a petition at them, which they'd been ignoring for months because 19,000 people wanted to revoke the city's permit that they granted to ICE to hole up in there. They freaking swarmed her with cops, and the news dutifully reported that in the wake of this vicious attack, city council members were going to have to start carrying firearms to defend themselves. She's been charged with criminal trespassing. In a public hearing, at city hall. People in power lie like that ALL the TIME. Not even a lot of power. Any "representative" of anyone anywhere in the USA is going to lie that protected, civil acts are dangerous violence that must be stopped with more violence. I can't imagine the UK is much better.
Until someone shows me the "death threats and possibly attacked" magistrates, I'm going to assume the magistrates were lying. Even when they were (supposedly) flying Ned's flag, I'm not holding a single one Luddite to any extremist lens, until I read some record other than that of the total slimeball Samuel Bamford, claiming the protestors opened fire unprovoked, because when the mill owners fired on them, that was just "to intimidate" and shouldn't have been seen as uh... shooting them.
I mean um... going "full Luddite" as you put it is probably a bad idea, since they start murdering people long before that point. So I agree. Just... don't expect them to play by any rule other than "kill people until they stop nattering at me."

Ah, yeah I guess it is tangentially like attacking supply lines. Still, showing your enemy's people that they can't tolerate your existence anymore is... well, it might go well for them.
Honestly I think there's more to this. A group that pulls shit like this probably has support from elsewhere (cough)richfucks(cough) and that's why they think they can throw their people under the bus.

Setting busses on fire is just poor form. What message is that supposed to send? Don't kill crime bosses, or they'll burn the busses their members use to travel around? Or they'll set fire to this random unrelated thing? And blockade of highways? Seems kind of pathetically ineffective to me. Certainly won't win them any community support, which is the only way enemies of the state can get any support.
Maybe they're just mad and doing shit that's dumb, not strategic.

In all seriousness, it's like any bullshit. Based on truth, to screw you over with a distorted reality rigged against your existence. Yes, "money corrupts" but that doesn't matter. People who get their limiters taken off can go a bit off the chain, but that's not what's happening. Vast majority of it was corruption stealing money, corrupted by other means. So go ahead and allow yourself to have money.

Automation has been libertory, in isolated places, over short amounts of time. It's just the bosses sweep in and say "Let's use this to make things shittier," or "The peasants are using this wrong let's fuck 'em up!" and then their dutiful employees transform your Personal Computer into a SmartPhone.™
The issue is they've been pushing designs that are better at oppressing people than uplifting them. Your computer, that you have to pay for, and need an electrical grid to power. That's not oppressive enough so they changed it to your computer, that you can't run without using their ad platform. That's not oppressive enough so etc... and now we're running around with magic bricks telling us nothing other than what to buy, while giant computing monstrosities are covering landscapes and burying fertile farmland.
We could push the designs in... other directions. Like the Luddites, who weren't opposed to technology. They were opposed to the fact that the bosses owned the technology as their private property. If they hadn't been murdered by the UK police and army, what would have stopped them? It all goes back to just... bullying.
