Hello again. We’re going to be holding off our defederation from .cloud until further notice after their team started taking moderation actions and announced server updates. There are ongoing discussions with their team about these issues and the future of the instance.

Again we encourage you to reach out to any accounts you follow on mastodon.cloud and ask them to migrate their accounts to an active server.
This is not only to allow them to continue to participate in the fediverse community but also for their own security, as mastodon.cloud is no longer a secure platform.

Secondly, their Mastodon software version has not been updated for an extended period of time and has known security vulnerabilities. We do not want to risk any exploits with those vulnerabilities that may affect our users.
An instance that is unmoderated and insecure poses a risk to other servers it federates with. The Fosstodon team did not take this decision lightly, and arrived here after months of observing these issues.

There are comments asking us to elaborate so here are some more specific reasons why we will be defederating.
Firstly, mastodon.cloud’s admins have been unresponsive to us regarding large volumes of spam accounts and other coc-violating content registering to their server.
Their admin and moderation team are seemingly no longer active. With the server still in open registration, this allows more bad actors to create accounts without moderation and affect the experience of federated servers.

Hi all, we've made the decision to defederate with mastodon.cloud, due to the unfortunate neglect of the server. Mastodon.cloud was already limited by Fosstodon. We will complete the defederation in 72 hours. Please reach out to accounts you still follow on mastodon.cloud and encourage them to move, while you can still contact them as the defederation will break your follow.
