Agreed. In my case, it took the many kind npubs who patiently walked me through the key pair conundrum, or the intricacies of clients, signers, and so on, to keep me active. It was the general populace of npubs who are not devs or coders, who post/note early and often, who keep me long-term.
I (we, @Kingbee) have made what I consider lifelong friends here. I am committed to foraying into the @Graphene Pixel landscape due to the privacy concerns of the iOS among others. I never would have cared, or even noticed, if it were not for the legends of #nostr , and though I respect and apprciate @nprofile…3r3l @nprofile…3r3l mallers, for instance, (who, with @nprofile…qy52 , were responsible for us even knowing #nostr existed) I do not refer to those npubs. My terminal friend is back in the ER this morning😬
Another of my bridesmaids (of which above friend was maid of honor), and the one who introduced me to @nprofile…28h4, is also terminal with an inoperable brain tumor. She is younger than I. That girl could barrel-race like a pro, played some mean softball, and was as pretty as Reese Witherspoon.
Her daddy worked for Pioneer Seed and achieved quite a level of wealth. He used to visit Auburn while we were in school there (cow college) and take us to a nice steak dinner. He was the sweetest man. He, too, died of an inoperable brain tumor, too young.

I know I would have frozen solid if it were a rattlesnake. They are incredibly beautiful, much more imposing creatures, and yes, they kindly sound warning before attacking, which gives them ascendancy in the hierarchy of honorable entities IMHO.
It is remarkable that you were sharp-witted enough to retreat before committing yourself into the path of no return. I walked down steps that gave me a vantage point to where I should have seen the snake on the doorstep.

Did you see where I stepped directly on a copperhead’s head, and miraculously was not bit? If the snake had not crawled into our honey shop (@nprofile…28h4 was immediately behind me, I had a gift in my hand so I could not see well) we would not have killed it. As it was, Kingbee had his wits about him, saw the whole thing unfold before he stepped on the snake, and before it got itself hidden irretrievably in our honey shop.

Yes. But never wore a beard. I “apprentice” with my husband, @nprofile…28h4 and have helped him move hives, or extract honey, or whatever I can help with, when not selling at farmers markets or delivering honey. I wear veil and gloves but no suit, too hot in our climate. Kingbee wears only a veil, and handles the frames with no gloves, so he gets stung more often. I have never gone through a hive alone, without him. It is so hard to pick up a heavy, honey-laden frame with gloves. His fingers are incredibly strong, and he dies not feel the stings enough to drop the frame (which is what I would do, and then it would really be sting-city.

@nprofile…28h4 really does. After being so thrifty his entire life, switching gears into spend mode is stressful. It is a dance. When to salsa; when to waltz; when to sit this one out. He can quickly grasp value/cost/waste, add long columns of numbers in his head, understand where value truly lies. This is a roadblock if it impedes the satisfaction of life, because old tapes say “save”. Time will force the issue. If you get too old to, for instance, tolerate a manual transmission because your knees hurt when you engage the clutch, then the Porsche isn’t the experience you thought you savored/saved for. This happened to Daddy. The 944 was way too low for his bad back to comfortably exit. He only had it one year before the discomfort forced him to give it up.

When to dance and when to sit this one out is perhaps the toughest decision of the saver/spender dance. @nprofile…28h4 truly struggles, having been frugal his whole life, can add columns of numbers quickly in his head, and knows how to extract value. I suspect you are quite similar. It is painful to watch his struggle, at times.
