this won't be lasting only for "one year"
given current difficulty and generously assuming hashrate of the whole ocean pool (~3% of current hashrate):
- bip chain will mine 1 block every ~5.5 hours (btw if we take current signalling it is ~1 block per day)
- the "one year" period is measured in blocks: 52416 blocks
- diff adjustments will happen every 2016 blocks = ~466 days (for first adjustment and it will require multiple adjustments to achieve 10 minutes block interval)
- this will lead to a ~2.5 years period until 52416 blocks have passed
* assuming constant hashpower of 3%. bip miners have to keep up mining through the first adjustment periods

It won't be a hard fork, but rather a soft fork (new rules are a subset of old rules) with possible chain split, if majority of miners do not follow BIP110. 110nodes will follow a different chain until reorg because they only accept valid blocks according to BIP110 rules, leading to longer txs confirmation and also possible problems with Lightning as Lightning relies on synchronous blocktime between nodes (e.g. justice-tx, cltv, chan confirmation heights).
tl;dr: no new coins for you

Sure.
So here's my small setup running bitcoind, pool_sv2 and translator_sv2.
Starting up translator_sv2 (both self-compiled and binary from github) with given translator-config.toml, I get errors about missing fields: "supported_extensions" and "required_extension". Even if empty, both need to be present in the toml file, they are commented out. pool-config.toml has it right and loads correct.
$ ./translator/translator_sv2 -c config/translator-config.toml
Translator proxy config error: Bad `config` TOML deserialize: `missing field `supported_extensions``
After uncommenting both options, pool_sv2 and translator_sv2 are starting up just fine. 👍

As many as you want. One transaction can open multiple channels. I have seen a routing node bootstrapping with 21 channels in one batch transaction. There are also more advanced techniques for a group of nodes opening channels pairwise. And I think there's more to come.

Is there any known research on blockchain verification on GPUs?
I know, there're a lot of variables to consider in this process: fast block-serving peers, db format, ssds, cpu etc. But assuming we got the perfect set, like syncing bitcoin blockchain over LAN, would a GPU based verification algo speed things up even more? Last time I synced over LAN I could certainly tell that my CPU peaked constantly.

IMHO the problem's name here is "community package".
I don't know how restrictive these Start9 packages have to be and how far they can reach into the Start9 system architecture. TunnelSats requires deep integration into the system layer (wireguard installation, network container implementation, port re-routing w/ nftables, ...). So basically afaik I think we cannot make use of a setup script to install TunnelSats from console but rather ship a s9pk wrapped TS package.
