I don't think it can be called will without intention, and intention is a higher order process.
there is an implicit teleology even in just nano-scale physical processes, but I don't think you can locate the will they express in the processes themselves-- it's too distributed, not integrated enough. from here you get deep into theology, beyond just defining terms and into reading the mind of God or whatever
(and dithering over whether that external will exists at all)

I see a lot of misguided activism against AI from leftists. the usual thought-terminating cliches have been marketed to them heavily: big business is pushing it, data centers are replacing wetlands and bogs and shit, it steals artists' work etc. all of which is good enough to hate it honestly but you know they don't really understand the real magnitude of the problem with it and like any industrial activity does the first two and any creative industry does the latter constantly.
meanwhile AI is being used to collect far more in-depth psychological data on people than ever before because they're having actual conversations with it-- they now know how much you understand about whatever topic you're researching and how competent you are at seeing connections, how many times you have to have it restate something to you until you get it, what your sentiment is likely to be on any given topic. It's completely exposing your thought process to the machine; there's no way they aren't going to use that for some kind of psychologically-informed surveillance program. they probably are already, going by the kind of shit p's been digging up of orgs running this kind of psyop in full public view.
right wingers have no idea, and are EXTREMELY difficult to convince of these latter points even though it's far more fucked.

but you're right, I did used to see what you're describing in a lot of people who got big into philosophy when I was in high school. It always bothered me, though I couldn't put it into words-- they always had this feeling that they finally had gotten things figured out, and they started using the basic ideas and even the language of whatever philosophy they're reading this week as a framework to hang all their thoughts on. Meaning that when they evaluate their own intuitions, they just slot it in to some ready made structure-- with the result being that they accept the given framing of the argument by following the philosopher's established form.
But I don't know that that's a permanent condition assuming they stay interested in the subject matter.

I think at some point we don't have an option to remain ignorant anymore, like as a species. Nuclear weapons, warfare, psychological manipulation just exists, and bad people will have access to it. They won't agree to toss that information away, especially if it gives them access to some kind of power.
But at the same time, knowing everything that's out there, what's possible for those who desire control to accomplish with only very subtle manipulation, and how little there is that you can do about it working on other people... I don't know that it's done me any good, considering I am completely alone in my understanding where I live.
But it still seems risky to just leave it with the least trustworthy people to use and abuse however they want, and not be aware of what kinds of things may act on oneself. idk.
