First I want to say how much I'm enjoying this discussion between people both more knowledgeable about it, than I💙
I saw some mention of Gov Beshear getting to appoint someone interim🤷‍♂️
But my real point was - Repugs would not worry about the law or constitution. They'd find a way around it; it may fail in court, but will achieve their goals meanwhile. Dems don't seem willing to fight like that

Every culture around the world discussed morality long before Moses made up the 10 Commandments
people think "Thou shalt not covet" is about greed. but it's less, Don't be jealous, & more, Don't rise up against the "Haves" just bc you "Have not"

An update: the pigeon came back today. the manager found it drowning in the pool and pulled it out. i saw it next to the pool's edge when i came out. it was wet so i dried it a little & set it on the towel.
I found Vida Wildlife Rehabilitation which takes in injured animals, about 15 mi away. So i wrapped in the towel, put it in a box & took it to them. I'm still waiting to hear back on its prognosis 😓🤞

i spent 2 hrs taking care of a pigeon that couldn't fly. called vets, animal shelters & control, but couldn't reach anyone
it kept trying to leave. but it would have its head & chest to the ground w/ its tail up, using its wings like arms to drag itself along the ground
then it got up enough to flap & get in the air. tried to fly over the roof but couldn't make it, fell, & used that to get speed & fly off
then i realized i hadn't taken any video, i was so worried & waiting for callbacks

I've been using #libreoffice for 10 years in my consulting business & i love it. all my clients use #msoffice, and my presentations & spreadsheets are seamless💙
I do very much want libre to release a tablet version. i always use 2-in-1 laptops, so i can notate on the fly, but i can't draw freehand in libreoffice
especially being able to sketch diagrams or mark up things in the presentation app. i really miss that feature from powerpoint😞

Oh, this is very interesting, bc i read that they are 6-7 in long. & i've seen (only a few) that look like them that are nearer, but slightly smaller, to the Eurasian doves that come feed from me. it seemed odd that i would only see fledglings but not adults
if they are adults, they are even more adorable💙

btw, there is still debate as to which species these tiny doves are - mourning doves or common doves. what is weird is, they are much smaller than any other dove, so i assumed they were fledglings. i had never seen an adult like them until recently. and still only a couple times. but there are 4-6 that hang out here and now come up to me. the couple of adults of that species (?) i've seen have never approached me.

also, like the pigeons, the more they interact w/ me, the more bold they get. when they see me at the pool, they will now come up to me to indicate they want food. they've gone from sheepishly picking food that fell from my hand to confidently standing in it.

i started in Dec '24. by Apr '25 they would eat from my hands. by May, they would fly into them. now, they treat me like a jungle gym. the Eurasian doves started eating from my hands in Jun/Jul, but still won't fly into them.
these tiny doves are new. they arrived maybe Oct? the video on substack shows when it recorded them mingling w/ the pigeons to get food. i'm not sure if they trusted me so quickly bc they observed me w/ other birds. but they have become very trusting

yes. i think. i can't only describe what i did, which started w/ feral pigeons. i went thru various types of food trying to entice them, so if you know what they like, you are ahead. after i found food they liked (in a container they would eat from) i would sit closer & closer, remaining as still as possible. i advanced that. & would try talking while they fed. then i would move slightly, until they got used to it. eventually, they would come close to me to feed while i talked/moved

i don't think i would qualify it as "training" them😅
but it's a long story. it took many months & a LOT of patience
most of my account of that journey was lost w/ my #bluesky acct (appeasers). i discussed some of it on my substack. some i've discussed here on #Mastodon (check my #pigeon related #s)
i'm working on an article on evolutionary biology that will describe it. that's how it all started. sadly, i'm a slow, unproductive writer😞but hopefully coming to my substack soon🤞💙

Does anyone here on #Mastodon know how to get more new posts into my feed?
When I choose "Home" or "Trending", I can refresh over & over, and it's the same posts
i can go away for an hour, then check back & refresh. maybe there are 1 or 2 new posts, but then the feed is the same
that cannot be right. am i somehow restricting my feed? i have no filters. what gives?
i've been on whatsapp groups with more activity than the Trending feed
what am i doing wrong?

last yr i bought a new laptop. every one has faster chips & processors than the last
yet this one (w/ window 11 & copilot) is 𝙨𝙤 much slower than my last. i've tried getting rid of it, but best i could do was turn it "off" (ahem🙄)
so, for fun, i came up w/ a conspiratorial explanation 😁
