skills should not be addressable events, they should be simple non-editable events so we can garantee their immutability and not get rug-skilled by adding something that might turn evil later. At the moment with the current state of nostr, just for outbox I agree that there are diminishing returns after about 20 or so relays, but in addition to the outbox relays, the app still needs to open more connections to find replies. Turns out chrome is fine, it was Brave Shields preventing more connections.

that's great! did you reach any conclusions on the original question?
alphaama's outbox code is pretty straightforward if you're curious. here's a quick summary:
For each author pubkey in the query, look up their declared relays (from their kind-10002 events).
Build a map of relay → list of authors that use it. Skip relays turned off.
Each author is limited to at most "outbox_max" relays (default is 3), preferring relays with the most authors.
Your own read relays are always included with all authors as a fallback.
Authors with no known relays go into a "none" bucket that get spread across all selected relays.

related but not really. It's more an issue with the browsers themselves than nostr but related because nostr needs those connections open for outbox.

my results are Safari and Chrome load most (except dead ones), Chromium is hit or miss, depends if I have multiple windows using connections already I think, Brave doesn't open more than 28 connections on my system.

spent the afternoon trying to debug why most relays were not connecting, but turns out I'm pretty sure it's chrome capping the total maximum of open connections to around 28 relays. after that, all relays that try to connect fail. Safari allows them all. don't know what to do here.. anyone seeing something similar? maybe it's because it's in a worker?

You ask their relays for their content, not your relays. Relays don't have to keep everything from everyone and can't have what they don't know about. If your followers don't post to your relays, then your relays won't have it. That's why nostr uses the outbox model, so you know where to find your followers posts.

In this case I meant Celsius and not the metric system. I think Celsius is a better system than Fahrenheit for temperature. I do prefer the metric system overall but i also like some characteristics of imperial, just not for everyday use.

it's not human scale, it's a scale from a human. one dude came up with and a single country uses it. in all fairness, it was created before Celsius and I applaud the effort, but the metric system is superior and yes, the relation to water makes sense as it is easily reproducible by anyone else under normal conditions

yeah but the reality is that it doesn't say that for the app, it just says that for the signer… so if the app was originally from some obscure key, and some influencoor publishes another copy, it will tell the copy is the real one no? I guess we're not at that point and simple deductions like this works for 99.9% of the cases

yes, that's how it works. relays only relay to clients that ask for it, and they can only relay what they have...
if you follow someone, you cannot expect that person to write to your set of relays, right? that would be a dumb assumption, so your client is smart and so it knows where your follows post and fetches from there, otherwise you would not see posts you want.
why do people expect to find other people's posts on their relays? this comes from a misunderstanding of how nostr works.
Also, if you want certain people to read your notes, then you should post to the relays they read their notifications from in addition to your own write relays. This is not rocket science, it's simple logic.

of all the years I worked doing design, InDesign was my absolute favorite tool. very misunderstood. most people use it wrongly as if it was a sort of illustrator where in reality it is an automation beast. you're not supposed to go and fiddle with things directly, you need to use styles for everything. once you understand that concept and the power it gives, you'll find it all makes sense...

nostr.land is as far as I've seen the only relay that resumes subs if sent before auth. the auth dance with most relays is just tiresome. this is how all relays should behave. you send the req, it asks for auth, you auth, the req resumes. <3

I think nostr could achieve note scheduling easily in all clients by simply having relays not relay notes with `date > now` (instead of `date > req_started`). then you simply input a future date in a note and everything happens automatically

what I do in alphaama is to keep track of events marked read in threads (per tab, you need to mark it manually but you can mark the whole thread), so I can keep those already marked read to be hidden and keep visible only the new ones. since requesting current data everyday will not bring back all the previous notes, some will never return to your feed, so keeping track of everything you have read becomes expensive and pointless, so I chose to only keep this info stored in sessionStorage so it cleans itself up when the tab closes and keep this data contained in the only relevant tab.

only loaded my profile from extension, but otherwise nothing loads anywhere on any relay.. looks like it's not firing the REQs, looking at the network tab, it makes an open req: ["REQ","...",{"kinds":[1984]}] to ditto and then received a ["CLOSED","...","error: the relay could not respond fast enough"]

you need to request each one separately, which is a pain. default query for addressable events is very much needed not on the "ids" field though.. better to use a new one like "addressable" or just "addr" that takes "a" tag values `<kind:pubkey:identifier>`
