We're already seeing reports about problems with voting machines -- some real, some just rumors. Expect a lot of conspiracy theories so be extra careful about sharing and boosting posts on this topic

Firefox Mac, version 131.0. it seems to only happen on certain posts -- https://infosec.exchange/@thenexusofprivacy/113283811345818844 is where it's triggering.
I'm not sure how to check the version number.

FYI @npub1zdf…6u9l with the 4.3 release, I'm unable to unboost a post on indieweb.social -- which I think this uses your theme. When I click on the highlighed boost icon, instead of unhighighting, it just shifts to the right a centimeter or so. I'm not seeing the same behavior on infosec.exchange, unboosts work fine there.

Meta can already target non-Meta users on third-party sites via shadow profiles, ActivityPub doesn't add magic immunity to that.
In fact fedi is great for targeting. Hashtags posts, favourites, follower/following ... those are gold mines. Even instances can useful. I'm sure with Meta's already working advanced AI techniques to infer that users on a hypothetical Disney instance are good targets for Disney-related material.

Why do you say that?
- Misskey already has ad support.
- Nothing prohibits Meta from implementing an ActivityPub compatible platform with support for tracking post performance. (Non-profits have asked for it too)
- it's very much in the interest of potential partners like Disney
- At least one current fedi admin has talked about wanting a share of the billions of $ floating around if Meta's successful

One possibility: partnering with businesses, celebrities, etc hosting their own communities, with Meta providing ads in some rev share relationship. It's somewhat analogous to what they did with apps like Zynga back in the day. The current fediverse would be in the "etc" category, but still useful for the PR spin and early feedback -- until they're not useful any more and Meta cuts them off.
