You can often get them for less than 1000 bucks and they're super easy to hack into because they almost always use off the shelf RC systems. You replace the receiver with Pi or esp32 or whatever you're cool working with and there you have it ;)

To be able to resupply the troops long term, you need to be able to get there with a supply ship. To get there, you need to pass the straight, which means you need to hold the straight, and when you hold the straight, you don't need the island in the first place

And it would sort of make sense too. But the island which is basically a man trap for the airborne infantry you could possibly drop there unless you can park a bunch of destroyers around it and keep the supply lines open....
