you'd also only want the setting to be exclusive to .i2p addresses as I2P doesn't have the concept of exit nodes, no way to connect to the wider internet through it
i don't know anything about android I2P implementations, but not sure SOCKS5 or HTTP proxy helps in the case of I2P, they tend to recommend using their own protocol (SAMv3) for connecting
as for integration, there's IIRC no library like Arti for Tor to integrate I2P into applications, so that would be difficult

i would guess:
a combination of software maturity, which is way easier if you can "cheat" with centralized solutions (nostr isn't ready to add that many users), and marketing
most people don't have censorship resistance that high in their list of priorities for a social media, or it even sounds scary to them, they just want a fun community with "fair" moderation
bluesky also cashes in heavily on nostalgia, it feels like the old twitter

i don't think nostrudel, or the common clients, support posting anything else
it would be less of an issue if replaceable notes were shown in the same timeline by clients, then people who want edits could use those and there would be no reason to fight about kind 1 technical details

it could just happen automatically; i remember monero, for example, starts with a fairly low value then doubles (or some other exponential factor) the mapsize every time it's reached
fhe factor is s a compromise; resizing isn't instant so you wouldn't want to do it too often

it also looks like the major lightning nodes make it intentionally difficult to make channels to them because there's so much demand

i haven't ever found CPU to be the limiting factor, nor have i heard it to be slow; but mind it's a consumer router, if you want utmost speed i guess you end up in the more professional segment aimed at datacenters-or roll your own firewall with a mini x86_64 pc

it needs to be a single icon, there's no functionality anywhere to pick a different icon based on the theme
so it should work both on light and dark background, and i don't think there's a way around having a border
tbf the original ghost bird design has a a white background but i don't think that helps 😀 :

i always choose stock debian (12), it's lightweight enough (in the minimum server install) while being easy to install packages for and do ad hoc sysadmin
if you have a lot of similar nodes to deploy i guess it's worth going the declarative minimalistic GUIX or Nix image route

besides the bandwidth, having a Tor bridge / snowflake proxy running from the same IP as a relay might be less useful because relay IPs are publicly listed, and snowflake proxies are supposed to be stealthy "hide in the crowd" things, so that they don't get blocked

yes for reverse engineering this is generally something you'd want to do in software, not hardware: wireshark can intercept and show USB traffic
hardware USB interception devices are meant for vendors to debug problems with their USB implementation, and are really expensive especially if you need USB3 support

i think their main point lately is that one shouldn't specify too many relays in the NIP-65 metadata (inboxes and outboxes), because that's information for other people and makes it harder to find your posts or send a post to you
apart from that there's little reason to not use as many relays as you want, though things might become slower and/or more battery and bandwidth usage, but doesn't affect anyone else

there's a degree of neutrality, there can be shared goals and underlying methods, otherwise there would be no reason to cooperate on technology at all (which would entirely undermine FOSS), and clearly different people can use the same technology

i had been arguing to remove miniupnp since i had a CVE-2015-6031 based local network code execution exploit PoC, but back in the day people were really hesitant to remove it, because of potentially losing connectable nodes, and at some point i gave up
it looks that that sentiment changed over time; that was one of the most popular (and least controversial) PRs in a while 😀
i guess having a built-in NATPMP/PCP implementation made the last ones change their mind

it's definitely not impossible that there's a bug in leveldb ! maybe it's possible to diagnose it if it keeps happening more or less consistently there
it's just that, data corruption messages tend to show as "error in leveldb" (because that's the thing causing most of i/o) and thus people are first to blame leveldb, it's such a common trope
i've investigated a few corrupted databases back in the day and every time it was a bitflip or some other issue more likely to be caused by hardware than software problems
while on reliable hardware it tends to be possible to run syncs back to back in a loop without trouble
the thing is, there are few workloads that put modern hardware to the test, and are also super-critical about every bit of correctness like a blockchain sync, so it makes sense you're not seeing problems with anything else
still, it could potentially be a bug that happens in very specific circumstances

you get that error because it's a robust database; if leveldb didn't do the CRC checksum on records, the UTXO corruption would go undetected, and there could be much worse consequences like losing coins

i remember the reason why i didn't use a []() link for the magnet link; just tried again and both nostrudel and habla won't allow "copy link" for some reason if you do (nostrudel will end up with a link to nostrudel.x0f.org, habla shows javascript void(0) ), so writing out the link seemed preferable, making it easier to copy/paste into whatever

DMs are another kind of message (kind 4) that can be queried from relays, just like the normal messages (kind 1), they're not usually shown by clients but they could be
(some do, for example nostrudel has a "DM timeline" built in: https://nostrudel.ninja/#/tools/dm-timeline)
there's a better DM standard that makes this kind of correlation more difficult but it's not widely adopted yet
but yea at least admins can't read the contents of messages here
