A manifesto for a parallel society grounded in natural law and human rights.
Preamble
Digital infrastructure, payments, and identity are increasingly concentrated in the hands of a small class of states, corporations, and supranational bodies that live off the productive work of everyone else. Central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), centralized digital ID systems, platform censorship, and mass surveillance are laying the technical foundations for a society in which every transaction, every word, and every movement can be tracked, steered, and silenced.
We do not ask this class for permission, and we do not petition it for our rights. Privacy, speech, property, and free exchange are natural rights inherent in every human being. They precede every state, every statute, and every treaty - and no law can stand above them. A law that violates a natural right is not authority; it is merely force.
The lesson of the digital age is one sentence: whoever holds the keys holds the rights. An account that a platform can delete is not your voice. A coin that a custodian can freeze is not your money. An identity that a registry can revoke is not you. Not your keys - not your coins, and not your speech.
Our answer is not protest but construction: a parallel society, built voluntarily, peacefully, and openly, that renders the old structures irrelevant. This is not a project with a deadline - it is a way of living, begun today and carried on for as long as it takes.
Pillar 1: Privacy
Privacy is the foundation of a free society in the electronic age. It is the right to draw the line between yourself and the world - what you say, earn, own, read, and believe concerns no one but those you choose. Surveillance kills freedom before censorship ever has to: those who know they are watched silence and shrink themselves, and the off-switch is never needed. Surveillance does not become legitimate by being legal.
Encrypt by default, everything, always: end-to-end messaging, encrypted storage, encrypted metadata where possible. Treat unencrypted channels as public.
Reject chat control, client-side scanning, and government master keys - not by petition, but by using mathematics that no legislature can repeal.
Refuse centralized digital ID. Build self-sovereign identity with zero-knowledge proofs: prove what an exchange strictly requires (over 18, valid ticket) and nothing more.
Practice financial privacy daily with cash and Monero, until it is an unshakeable social fact.
The goal: Private life is technically impossible to mass-surveil, regardless of what any legislature decrees. Privacy is the lived norm, protected by mathematics and by millions practicing it.
Pillar 2: Free Speech
On the foundation of privacy grows free speech - the first fruit of a protected private sphere, and the means by which every other right is defended. Speech that requires permission is not free.
Deplatforming, demonetization, upload filters, and "misinformation" boards are all one mechanism: a gatekeeper between a human being and their voice. The answer is not better moderation policy - it is architecture without gatekeepers.
Publish and communicate on protocols, not platforms: Nostr, the Fediverse, Matrix, RSS - systems where identity is a keypair that no company can delete.
Host what matters on censorship-resistant infrastructure: IPFS, Tor, I2P, mirrors, and community-run servers.
Treat access to an audience as something you own - your keys, your followers, your archive - portable across any client.
Defend the speech of opponents as firmly as our own: an off-switch tolerated for one voice becomes an off-switch for all.
The goal: No single company, state, or committee can silence a voice in the parallel public square. Deleting an account no longer deletes a person.
Pillar 3: Decentralization
Every central point is a point of control, and every point of control will eventually be used. Decentralization is not a technical preference - it is the structural form of freedom.
Run the rails ourselves: peer-to-peer networks, mesh networks, community nodes, home servers. Every household a node, every community a network.
Decentralize the physical layer too: local markets, community food and energy production, mutual aid, private arbitration - voluntary order instead of technocratic top-down planning.
Dissolve dependencies one by one: every service replaced and every single point of failure removed is a lever of control destroyed.
Prefer systems with no admin, no landlord, and no off-switch.
The goal: The parallel society's communication, payment, and supply rails have no single point of failure and no owner. Communities can sustain their essential needs entirely from within.
Pillar 4: Open Source
A system you cannot read is a system you must trust - and trust in the powerful is precisely what got us here. In the parallel society, trust in institutions is replaced by verifiability of systems: "Don't trust, verify."
Use and build open-source software for everything load-bearing: wallets, messengers, operating systems, nodes, identity tooling.
Treat closed systems as hostile until proven otherwise - especially closed systems handling money, speech, or identity.
Audit, reproduce, and fork: reproducible builds, independent review, and the standing ability of any community to take the code and walk away.
Fund and contribute to the commons: free code is the shared soil the whole parallel society grows from.
The goal: Every load-bearing piece of the parallel infrastructure can be read, audited, and forked by anyone. No black box stands between a person and their rights.
Pillar 5: Fungibility
Money is only free if every unit is equal to every other. On transparent ledgers, coins carry their history: they can be traced, blacklisted, "tainted," and refused - which turns money itself into an instrument of surveillance and control. Fungibility is not a feature; it is the precondition of sound, neutral money.
Use Monero (XMR): confidential by default through ring signatures, stealth addresses, and RingCT, with no transparent history to blacklist. Every XMR equals every other XMR.
Build the circular economy: earn, spend, save, and give in Monero without ever touching the surveilled system. Merchant directories, point-of-sale tooling, peer-to-peer markets, trustless atomic swaps (BTC-XMR).
Hold your own keys, always - property held through an intermediary is property held at someone else's pleasure. Treat any demand to surrender keys as what it is: expropriation.
Make conditioned money irrelevant: the answer to programmable CBDCs is not better regulation, but a functioning alternative that no one can switch off and no one is forced to depend on.
The goal: A full economic life can be lived entirely in private, fungible, self-custodied digital cash. No one is forced to hold conditioned money to live.
Principles of Implementation
Build, don't beg. We do not petition for rights we already possess. We exercise them and build the structures that make them irrevocable in practice.
Hold your own keys. In money, in speech, in identity. Whoever holds the keys holds the rights - so we hold them ourselves.
Voluntary in everything. The parallel society knows no coercion. People join because it is better, freer, and more humane - or they do not join at all.
Peaceful and open. We initiate force against no one. Our means are voluntary exchange, free association, encryption, and exit.
Exit over protest. Every service replaced, every dependency dissolved, every person taught is worth more than any demonstration.
Teach the next generation. Key management, running nodes, encryption, self-reliance - passed from parent to child as naturally as reading and swimming.
