Yes, these are also major major contributing factors
But to clarify what I meant: I keep seeing journalists sanewashing things, downplaying things, and creating a nonexistent middle ground in order to appear non-biased. This in and of itself, aside from any other influence you mentioned, is entirely antithetical to the concept of journalism as a whole, I think.
Maybe it's not because they're afraid of being seen as biased, maybe they're afraid of lawsuits? I don't know. But it's harmful.
I still look to & admire Russian investigative journalists - navalniy's team, tv rain, meduza... All 3 groups conduct actual journalism and all 3 have been exiled from Russia as a result
But that is sort of what happens when you refuse to both-sides an authoritarian regime
