I can't even describe what a terrible day it's been.
I nearly choked to death on coffee, splattering it all over my laptop.
A single droplet managed to get on the laptop's LCD driver circuit, causing it to bug out. The panel now strobes in a seizure inducing pattern, and I can't afford to replace it right now. (It's $159 and I can't pay my rent this month.)
I slipped and fell on some stairs and cracked my elbow and nose. Thankfully my phone is fine, but I wasn't.
I don't have enough spare parts to repair the old Thinkpads I could salvage from my garage. My old corporate issued M1 MacBook Pro is still owned by the corporation that let me off in 2023, so I can't repurpose it.
My partner hasn't used their laptop in several months, so they offered to let me take refuge on it for now. Except it's now randomly kernel panicking after an upgrade and experiencing storage errors. I don't have another drive to swap to, either.
So in the span of a day, I lost use of my machine, a backup machine, nearly drowned just by EXISTING, and just about broke my nose.
I need a hug.

It's a really subtle case of multi-set rewriting. Because rewrite rules can be formulated over any kind of structure, it's easy to swap other structures in.
FRACTRAN, Petri Nets, some fragments of linear logic, and Nova all share the backing structure of "an unordered bag of things, which can have duplicate items".
It's really neat once you start examining the consequences, because of the things in the bag have some structure, you can pattern-match them.
Then anything is possible.
