That it resulted in 45 thousand different denominations of protestants, because words require interpretation and often lack unique interpretation. There really does need to be a living church of people practicing the religion to narrow down the semantics to acceptable levels. It is like learning mathematics by passively reading vs actively doing. We are promised that the church will always exist to allow this understanding to happen.

I think sola scriptura is a result of protestants breaking away from the first protestants, Catholics. Out of pride and greed the Catholic leaders caused the Great Schism. They lost a strong connection to the Holy Spirit and started making more choices that humanity in the West would feel the natural desire to rebel against.
During this time information poverty was more of an issue for common people. So, with lack of knowledge of the original church to fall back on, further reinventing of the wheel happened. Common folk were region locked and had to go along with it until recently.
I think we can also agree by casual interpretation that the scripture gives the Church authority. It is not non-trivial authority either.

On a practical level and an aside, sola scriptura opens the religion to abuse. Martin Luther wanted to remove books from the bible because he did not agree with them. A pope position can be abused by our enemies. Give a single attack point and the religion can corrupt. Make sure that the whole body of the Church across nations must agree on interpretations and important practices, and no oligarch or jew should be able to poison it.
